Theme Reboots

So, it seems like in the past few years, Lego has made an effort to reboot previous themes, many of them very popular with fans. The two most obvious are the Castle reboot that started last year, and the Pirate reboot that is coming. Also there is the new Agents theme, similar to Alpha Team, and the new Rock Raiders type theme, similar obviously to Rock Raiders. I particularly love the Castle Reboot, and think it is a great homage to the sets of old. But, I am not as big of a fan of the Pirate reboot. I feel it does not represent the old theme very well. I am indifferent on the other themes, but I know others are not. What do you guys think of reboots? Like I said, I believe some are succesful, others I don't care.

Well I certainly do like Lego doing reboots, it lets the old themes live on without becoming rehashes of eachother. This said, I like the new Pirates for the same reason you don't. What's done is done, the new Pirates would fail if their design doesn't move forward with the other themes.

I love reboots as long as they are close to the original.

The new Pirates look like S**T (IMHO), and yes, I am truly sorry to say this, it hurts my hearth... the new sets don't even come to the older set' toes . Only the impulse packs are neat, because they are great army builders .

The Agents theme is as good or even better then Alpha team, so that is IMO a job well done. Same goes for Castle.

Now now, language ! Besides, the only one that fits your description is Kraken Attackin'. Nobody saw the topic title 'New Pirates' and thought 'oh gee whillikers i hope there's a big raft that'll be like 50% brown cylinders'

I don't see what the big deal about reboots are. It brings the characters and themes back for (possibly) a whole new generation.

The new Pirates stuff (at least from box pics) looks (to me) exactly like the old stuff. Many of the outfits are the same, they've got the same fortress elements (white w/ yellow brick shown underneath), and they've (TLC) added some great looking improvements. [telescopes, mermaid, pirate lass w/ eyepatch, etc, etc]

The Power Miners may or may not sell well - it looks fancy and bright and most kids crave that stuff, but parents might not have the funds to get it all, and we won't know finance details until next year if at all...

Castle? There are now cows. 'Nuff said!

But I fail to see where the Castle theme is a reboot?

Castle has been around for ages and even though it changes in appearance once in a while from CC to KK to FE, it's still the same.

I am sure the pirate reintroduction is a great idea, but the PowerMiners will fail miserably.

I am eagerly awaiting the new space theme (hopefully to eradicate the mistake of rebooting LoM )

I agree that some of the new themes are reboots.(I think the new Agents theme is one atleast)

I think the only problem is that some of these reboots are not even half as good as the old themes.(like Power Miners )

It is a reboot in the sense that it brings back the idea of a generic castle and factions and allows for creativity without a set story line, unlike the Knights Kingdom.
