Dragonator Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Right ho team, welcome aboard. First things first, we need to sort out what we are building. So what I want to know first is, who wants to build what, and what sort of stuff are you most likely to do, ie, do you want to build just interiors, just exteriors, or both? If your all happy to do both, then I was thinking we could perhaps start by tackling the back section, if anyone is interested in building some of those buildings. So, what do you guys want to do? If your happy to do that part fist, then we can start deciding who does what and how we're going to make this the best group build ever! Quote
Wouwie Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Euhm.....I would like to build either the kitchen or the docks Quote
I Scream Clone Posted October 19, 2008 Author Posted October 19, 2008 Here's some wall dimensions I knocked up quickly. Detailing is up to the group. Walls are a base start of 12 high though they only have to be 12 high on each end so as to link up to other modules. Here is a basic design, the only thing that matters for the group is the placement of the pins at 1,6, and 11. Quote

I'm mainly interested in the buildings outside the wall and the things in the wall itself. Do we vote to see who's MOC is better if two people want to build the same thing or does one person drop out? Building groups on! Pickerel :skull: P.S. First: I think a very important thought is what color is the castle walls going to be? It may seem like a stupid question, but there's tons of options! Is it red brick, light bley mortar, black brick, dark bley mortar, there's many possibilities! I think before we start building we should decide on this. P.S.S Perhaps we should combine the mad scientist lab and the torture chamber. I think this figure could do the purpose for both! ( I'm interested in these two areas because the mad scientist is my sig fig!) Quote
Erdbeereis Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Pickerel, the colors are light grey or bley for the main part with dark grey or dark bley details, as seen in ISC's example. Dragonator, I'm not too interested in most of the back buildings, but I would like to try the Jester's Joke Shop and the kitchen. Perhaps we should start on the left side? Quote
Thrash Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 I know this isn't my group, but I thought I could provide some input about the Mad Scientist/Torture Lab. I put them next to eachother so that the mad scientist could help out with the torturing or use the prisoners for experiments, but I kept them as two seperate things with the idea that the torturer would do traditional tortures (the rack, iron maiden, etc.) and then the mad scientist could get more creative. ~Thrash Quote

Perhaps the mad scientist could lead a double life? His monster face could be the torturer and his crazed scientist look could be for the mad scientist? (He could move back and forth with a secret passage and of course have the hunchback ) Exactly how much freedom do we have? Can we, for example move rooms around to better suite people's tastes? Or are these plans permanently set in concrete with metal reinforcements and barricades to discourage vandalism? Pickerel Double O Status: Confirmed Ready to build! Quote

Perhaps we should start on the left side? Yes, it doesn't look like anybody likes the back buildings. I'm thinking of doing the front gatehouse anyway, so perhaps we should... start on the left side... Or we could work on that front section, from the left around to the right. It entirely depends on what you all want to try building first. Just so you all know, I myself have changed a few things up the front of the castle. I want to build a wider gate house, so the oil smelter and mystery play have both been temporarily removed, and can be relocated if necessary. Exactly how much freedom do we have? Can we, for example move rooms around to better suite people's tastes? Or are these plans permanently set in concrete with metal reinforcements and barricades to discourage vandalism? The plans are set in jelly with a small dash of sugar coating. Basically, if something needs changing for it to suit you better, then that is perfectly fine, as long as it is not unreasonable.. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 O.k., Dragonator, you can put me down for the Kitchen first and whenever I finish that, I'd be interested in the Joke Shop.\ Or I could do the other way around if that suits everyone better. Quote
Adam Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 (edited) If it checks out with you guys, I'd like to do #5 (Wizard Tower) and #15 (Back Gatehouse). If it turns out that I'm only allowed to do two, however, I'd like to do the Back Gatehouse. EDIT: Since Dragonator wants to extend the front gatehouse (to 48x32 instead of 32x32, I presume), maybe the back gatehouse should have the same extension? EDIT 2: Also, I'd like to collaborate with Dragonator on something. It's obvious that there'd be a walkway in and out of the gatehouses, but should the front gatehouse and back gatehouse have the same walkway? If so, what color should it be, should it be smooth tiles or plates, should there be landscaping (ie. pebbles)? Edited October 20, 2008 by Adam Quote
Pickerel Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 (edited) The plans are set in jelly with a small dash of sugar coating. Caramelized, powdered, or normal? I'll start working on the mad scientist's lab and the torture chamber, if that's okay. I'm not down for anything else, right? Just checking! Adam, personally when I think of a wizard's tower I think of a towering tower barely connected to a towering keep (the center part of a castle). Perhaps we should use are (somewhat) newly realized creative license to venture into the land of multiple stories? P.S. I've also got issues with a lot of things with the monastery, most monasteries were entire areas the size of our castle, these had beehives, a chapel, a pond, a scriptorium, cloistered walls and a variety of other things. I say we make it bigger, change it too something smaller ( CSI: Brickville, a monk goes undercover in an undersized apartment to prove his and his fellow monks and abbots innocent) or just dump it, make it fend for it's own in this harsh plastic universe! P.P.S. How are we going to incorporate the courtyard, market, and gardens? Will one person just build everything in it? P.P.P.S My computer was having problems seeing images, now I can see I Scream Clone's example. Sorry self for making you look stupid! P.P.P.P.S. Another idea; does anyone think it would make our castle pretty(er) if we added a river? I do! P.P.P.P.P.S. I'm also interested in the secondary gate house- NOT confirmed. Portcullises rock! Sorry about the P.S.'s, it's the strange way I am. Pickerel Edited October 20, 2008 by Pickerel Quote
Adam Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Perhaps I can widdle my way into replacing one of the innermost chambers with the wizard tower? Who knows. I was planning on doing multiple stories anyway. BTW, when you have two P.S.s, you say P.S. then P.P.S. then P.P.P.S. and so on. P.S. stands for Post Script, so you'd say Post Post Script. Just to let you know. Quote

Adam Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 (edited) I have some questions on the wall design: I have outlined some of them in the above picture, but here they are in words: 1. Why don't we raise the pathway 2 plates so that the path could have a smooth floor? 2. I thought that there was supposed to be 4 studs between the edge of the baseplate and the wall, not 3. 3. Is it okay if I extend the gatehouse from 32x32 to 32x34? If we go with Dragonator's plan on extending the gatehouses, it would be Dx34 (where D is the length Dragonator wants it to be). Basically, where everyone else's baseplate would end, I'd have 2 to 4 studs extra. EDIT: I'm only doing the back gatehouse. Edited October 20, 2008 by Adam Quote

You can make the back gate house however you like, it doesn't need to be the same as the front one. I was planning on tiling my whole thing anyway, but I don't think it has to apply to everyone, only where somebody wants to. As for landscaping,I'll certainly do some of that! You do whatever you like mate, I'm sure it will look great whatever you do. Your baseplate extension sounds fine too, although I can't quite see how your going to extend a baseplate by 2 studs. Quote

I Scream Clone Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Hey guys,I'm really not picky... I'll take whatever is left over Then consult the list on page one of this topic and let me know here. I will then cross it off the list. Quote
Stol Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 (edited) Then consult the list on page one of this topic and let me know here. I will then cross it off the list. In that case i'll take the Mason's guild, monastary, and chapel since their all on the same strip If thats too much to take i can do one or two of them Edited October 20, 2008 by Stol Quote

Quarryman Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Greetings my fellow Alphas! (though ISC has yet to update the first post, he did send me a PM ) As I said in the other thread, I've pretty much started on a mad scientist/alchemist (alchemy led to much of nowadays science anyway, so that's just proper), might take some time though, I think I'll have to do some bricklinking to get it finished. I Scream Clone Posted October 21, 2008 Author Posted October 21, 2008 There is no time limit on this build Quarryman, and you joined late too, merely the scorn of fellow team members Cant wait to see pics people, now just have to get off my butt and start building mine. Quote
Pickerel Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 VERY IMPORTANT! What color are the roofs of our buildings going to be? I don't really think this to be important on the outer buildings, but it's very important on the keep! Part of my (unconfirmed) secondary gatehouse plans will have a roof, but what color should it be? Personally I think it should be black, as black looks good, fits a variety of themes, is common, and has a large selection of bricks to choose from. I think it would look terrible if one part of the keep was sand green, one part black, and one part straw! Pickerel Quote
