amechanicalmind Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 (edited) Only 8 million? So the entire Grand Army of the Republic can, like, populate New York City? And they're supposed to be spread across a galaxy fighting a war? <sigh> Silly human brains and our difficulties with realistic scale. 8 billion clones would've been far better. With trillions of sentients across the GFFA, it's still a relative drop in a bucket. They can't hit anything anyway, so what's the difference between million, billion, or trillion? Here is the third faction of my Classic Castle Army, The Alliance, featuring the Nine (elder council) along with their army. This one is my least favorite, as they have no shields (per Lego). As with my other armies, they all have differing heads. Edited February 11, 2015 by amechanicalmind Quote

This is a point of contention in the Star Wars universe that doesn't really have a great explanation... Quote
BrickSev Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 Actually he is right... or at least much closer than 8 billion or trillion. This is a point of contention in the Star Wars universe that doesn't really have a great explanation... It's a bit off topic but its was 3 millions in the first stages then the Senate voted the creation of 5 more millions. Assuming more Clones were created to sustain losses the Grand Army of the Republic was about 8 millions units strong. Just one note ( I don't want to act like a mini-mod lol but then I suggest to go back to topic ) They have a good aim. Imperial Stormtroopers are the ones who can never hit their target In any context (even in a Galaxy wide conflict) 8 millions plus all the related "hardware" is indeed a very huge army. Quote
Stelario Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 8 millions plus all the related "hardware" is indeed a very huge army. China Have active 3 million soldiers and 1.5 million Police and they only live on planet earth ;) So i don't consider 8 million clones army of whole universe Huge. About hitting targets nether Clones or Droids could hit a thing. I watched whole SW saga few weeks ago again and I feel like it's made for kids, and when they were making it movie business wasn't so corrupt like now. (they kill zombie not human so 6 years old kids will pay for tickets) Quote

(they kill zombie not human so 6 years old kids will pay for tickets) You don't consider the technological aspect, training etc. A Navy Seal Team is worth more than regiment of less trained soldiers. This is a topic about Castle armies, posted in the Historic themes forum. There are plenty of places on the net where you can complain about the "low quality of Star Wars movies" I don't want to limit freedom of speech lol but if we start to go too much off topic we would ruin the usefulness of this topic which is not about Star Wars Quote
Durins Bane Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 The flesh update to the classics is just so awesome Quote
amechanicalmind Posted February 12, 2015 Posted February 12, 2015 Thank you! I was never interested in army building until the newer flesh heads came out. I liked the idea of having different soldiers from various backgrounds and cultures...the yellows just didn't do that for me. Quote

I see they come from different themes including a Vitruvius from The Lego Movie Quote
amechanicalmind Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 It's been at least a year that I have been converting these guys over, so I've basically picked through everyone's bricklink piles as well as a couple custom heads here and there. At first, I didn't care how many repeats I had, but over time I managed to organize them. Now, as I add to these three armies (The Others, The Kingdom, and The Alliance), I make sure that every new head I add is single and different. All the repeats go into the fourth army I have (all knights from 677/6077 Knight's Procession) which, at some 500+ minifgures is too big to worry about having all different heads. In itself, that army probably has 60+ different flesh heads. Quote

I mean I'd prefer to move from one project to another for the sake of variety (otherwise I get bored ) and so I'm never able to assemble such massively sized armies but that means I got vehicles and buildings to counter the lower number of soldiers Quote
amechanicalmind Posted February 13, 2015 Posted February 13, 2015 I wish I had more time to build, but I have a one year old not yet able to help out. The hour or so I get to work with my Lego each week, I'm either building armies or working on modding a castle I have going. Maybe when retirement comes I'll have more time for building... Quote

Balbo Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) Not 100% satisfied of course, but something is better than nothing. :) Thanks for sharing that picture I wasn't sure before if the silver helmets work with the gray torsos - but it looks pretty good! sahidko Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 Thanks for sharing that picture I wasn't sure before if the silver helmets work with the gray torsos - but it looks pretty good! No problem...Yep they turned out quite nicely considering 3 parts (helmet, torso, shield) from 3 different creators. Quote
amechanicalmind Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) Final Classic Castle army in formation...or the "I have a problem" army. All vintage figures, shields, old grey helmets, abs swords, old dark grey halberds, old brown bows and quivers. This is my semi-clone flesh army. Edited February 14, 2015 by amechanicalmind Quote
ttoole73 Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 That is a lot of archers! I'm jealous. Quote
amechanicalmind Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 That's pretty impressive. Thank you! I've never set them all up like this...very neat for me to see, and realize that maybe I finally have "enough". That is a lot of archers! I'm jealous. It is a lot, really. What happens is that I either have too many quivers, bows, or figures, so always am ordering whatever I don't have. It's a vicious cycle. Right now, I have four archers and many bows, but no quivers...so it continues. Quote

Indeed We are all in the same condition. It is said TLG is paying scientists to not release the cure. Just a joke, of course. I'm not putting our friends at TLG inside conspiracy theories Jokes a part, you have a very impressive collection. Have you ever thought about putting all those Minifigures in some sort of diorama? You could make a breathtaking battle scene with all those Minifigures Quote
dgherko Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Very impressive old school collection. I like to see the mixture of older parts with the newer ones. The replacement of the yellow "fleshie" heads with the newer heads and the hands to match each head, with the old torsos. The mixture of new and old weapons is a nice touch. Quote

I've been reworking 6080 King's Castle for some time now, doubling the walls, adding in all the add on sets like Armor Shop and Guarded Inn. Again, time is the biggest factor working against me. I know that feeling too. Sometimes I think I'd need a 48 hours day with no need to sleep to do everything I wish I had even several plans about a couple of "Brick Graphic Novels" namely long Brick Comics stories with plot scenery etc but I can't find the time for them. There are those lucky persons who made their hobby their job and so they can spend a lot of time with their bricks Quote
