Isundir Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I love how your army is both realistically diverse and has the same general color/symbolism, a proper realistic army very nice, honestly my favorite LEGO Castle Army I have seen so far. I should post mine, I can't afford as many minifigs though. Quote

Stelario Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 This is totally messed up. How the king or other boss of Dragon fraction can have pants with lion emblem? That's so wrong. Quote
Wodanis Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 This is totally messed up. How the king or other boss of Dragon fraction can have pants with lion emblem? That's so wrong. That's because for my character he was acting as the bishop to the lion king but in reality he controls the dragon fraction. Defeat from within. Shouldn't take things too literally. Quote

DigbyMole Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) Hello All. I'm new to the forum and I thought I would share a part of the army I have been working on for the last year. I just got back into Lego as an adult and I have been having a lot of fun with the castle minifigures. As I shopped for Lego I came across an off brand some of you may be familar with, Kre-o. I was curious if Kre-o parts were compatible with Lego, and to my delight they were. The "Kreons" themselves are terrible junk, but the swords and armor are of a quality equal to any 3rd party manufacturer such as Brickwarriors although not as detailed. I scanned all the Kre-o torsos and tweeked them a bit with GIMP to make them fit Lego minifigs. This "Blue Dragon" faction is part of a larger army that is still in the works. This army was definitly not cost effective, but I was pleased with the results. I hope you are too. SirBlake Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 That army looks really nice. What techniques did you use for the printing on fabric and plastic? Quote
Venkefedo Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Nice use of Kreo accessories! Some of their stuff is too odd for my taste, but I love those cheek-guard helmets. Closest Lego's got to it are the old bullet-helmets and the Rohan helmets. Some of the weapons are a lot of fun, too... I only picked up a couple D&D figures, but they're still kinda neat even with the goofy arms & legs of all Kreons (I couldn't resist getting several Kreons, with Transformers, GIJoe, and D&D in the mix). Kreon heads are the worst, tho... misprints galore, and sometimes the headgear (mostly Transformers 'helmets') don't even fit properly on the heads. Were those gray shield Kreo? I assumed they were, but didn't see 'em in a quick peek at the D&D sets... Edited July 30, 2015 by Venkefedo Quote

DigbyMole Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 That army looks really nice. What techniques did you use for the printing on fabric and plastic? The torsos, calvary shields, and breastplate were just waterslide decals printed with a inkjet printer on decal paper. The fabric was a bit more complicated. I started with a white broadcloth that was a bit too cheap and transparent (something I will try to improve upon in the future.) I then used a fabric stiffening spray, at least 3 coats I believe. To make it less transparent I brushed on some gesso. After it was dry I lightly sanded the cloth. Then I fed it through the printer, let it dry and then reversed it, and printed on the other side. After the second side dried I sprayed some acrylic varnish on each side. The method was a litle crude so I hope in the future I can find an easier way. The gesso was a little uneven when dry so there were a few capes with splotchy colors that had to be thrown out. Nice use of Kreo accessories! Some of their stuff is too odd for my taste, but I love those cheek-guard helmets. Closest Lego's got to it are the old bullet-helmets and the Rohan helmets. I assumed they were, but didn't see 'em in a quick peek at the D&D sets... Thank you. Yes I agree most of their stuff doesn't look right but they did have some successes. I have had a few types of helmets that won't fit, mostly with the Wave 3 of the D&D Kreons. I assume you mean the crossbowmen shields with the cross. Yes they are Kre-o, they are from wave 2 D&D kreons, the kreon is called Lander. Looks good, and blue dragons is definitely a nice welcome change! Thank you! Welcome to you and your Army :-) Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Quote
Nagol of Fortfield Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 That army is Very nice! I love the third party elements (especially the Rohan-ish helmets). That custom barding is looking awesome, as well as all the printed torsos! This just makes me want to get some capes.... Quote

thetang22 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 I've been working on a board game that will utilize Legos to create a medieval micro city, as well as minifigs to represent player characters and NPCs. I've been brainstorming lots of ideas about how it will all come together, and I've decided I want to include lots of the factions from the 80's/90's Castle era, with some modernization. I've started with 2 of the factions to test the waters, and here are the examples that I've come up with so far. House of Lions - they represent one of the old "Houses" in the city, a rich organization that is the epitome of nobility and honor. While they do represent this on the whole, there are a few instances of bad seeds within the House...a few members that are really corrupt. They live in the "Upper City", the part of the city where all the nobility reside, and they exercise a lifestyle that only the wealthiest could afford. They do have many workers that attend to their lavish lifestyle, such as chefs, sculptors, jewelers, gardeners, and even servents (the orc dressed in fancy clothes). Yes...the wizard is straight from the CMF series, but I felt he fits the style as is. Wolfpack - they reside primarily in the Port District of the Lower City. They are commoners who are down on their luck and desperate for opportunity, found mainly in the form of being thieves, thugs, and bandits. They do have their own society, however, with more "respectable" professions, like alchemists, dock workers, and bards. There will be other factions as well, but there's a chance they are still a ways off, while I focus on other aspects of the boardgame (as well as work just about to start getting BUSY for months and months) Quote

thetang22 Posted August 10, 2015 Posted August 10, 2015 Very cool retro figs, are those musical instruments custom? Yes. I've used custom pieces from Brickforge and Brick Warriors. Quote
JasonNorin Posted August 11, 2015 Posted August 11, 2015 As The Brickster said, this might have been done before, but I didn't find any other thread like this one using the search function. I've got several medieval armies, but unfortunately almost no pictures. I'll try to make some. Here's one of my Black Falcons while one the move to attack some Crusaders Now this is by far the most fascinating display of caslte army I have ever seen. I'm 29 now and I wanna go there to play with them.. Quote
