simonjedi Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) . I was half expecting a huge lens flare in the market but unfortunately not Didn't you get the memo? We've officially banned all of the following from discussion about 7/8/9 for all of know time and universes: - Lens Flare Jokes - Old Han/Leia/Luke jokes. Gary Whitta? As in the same Gary Whitta who posted (on gaming website NeoGaf)...2008, in response to a post about the prequels: "Guess what, those movies f***ing sucked too." And, in 2011, on the Blu-Ray Special Editions: "OG editions of Episodes IV, V, and VI ACQUIRED! Ripping them to Apple TV this afternoon, then I plan to watch the trilogy the way that I remember it! F*** Lucas and his vandalized Blu-rays. He's turned us all into scavengers, scraping around in the trash cans of the internet for our childhoods." I mean I agree with him wholeheartedly, but then again I'm not an employee of Lucasfilm... (Source: http://www.bleedingc...ecial-editions/) Well, all of his opinions are correct so that's a good start.. Edited May 24, 2014 by simonjedi Quote

The_Chosen_1 Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Well, all of his opinions are correct so that's a good start.. ...and that, in turn, is your opinion. Believe it or not, there is a large majority of fandom that loves and appreciates the prequels, and either doesn't know or care about the SE changes. To say that one point of view is "correct" shows a very limited understanding of what fandom has become; there are varying interests and opinions in fandom, due in large part to when someone is introduced to it. Doesn't mean one or the other is wrong. Quote
Fives Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 (edited) I feel like this thread has kinda oddly gone silent recently, so heres a bit of stuff to reignite the conversation. First off, there was a video released a little while ago of what has been reported as Daisy Ridley's stunt double doing some stunt training on one of the sound stages. http://www.movieweb....-alien-revealed Also, apparently the portion of filming taking place in Abu Dhabi has finished. http://www.starwarsu...filming-in.html But most importantly, 40 or so leaked photos from the Abu Dhabi set have surfaced. http://www.tmz.com/2...s-new-creature/ They don't really reveal anything about the story, but it gives more of a sense of what the Abu Dhabi scenes may look like. I no longer can tell whether or not this is Tatooine or a new desert planet. EDIT: Some more news just released! Lupita Nyong'o and Gwendolione Christie have joined the cast! I'm ridiculously excited! http://www.starwarsunderworld.com/2014/06/breaking-lupita-nyongo-and-gwendoline.html Edited June 2, 2014 by Fives Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Definitely a HUGE day for news about the 'Wars!! The cast is shaping up to be absolutely incredible, and now there's an Oscar winner on the roster to boot. Also, it's been noted elsewhere online, but one of the structures in the leaked pics is very much based on a Ralph McQuarrie painting. It's extremely exciting and encouraging to me that the production crew is continuing to mine from previously unused McQuarrie concepts - something that Lucas did often in the PT, and more recently The Clone Wars. Ultron Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 This is great news! Glad they're adding more females. Hope they have big roles. Quote
BrickG Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 You know I'm glad like everyone else that they're going back to practical/non-CGI effects for a lot of stuff... but honestly at the same time I'm kind of worried things are going to look too much like puppets :P. The original trilogy is great and all but it does look dated. I'm a bit worried everything is going to look like Farscape or something (Farscape looks freakin' terrible IMO). I love the idea of getting rid of green screens and using sets but when it comes to the creatures I hope they don't just look like puppets. That's just as bad as bad CGI IMO. Maybe they'll use a mix... Idunno. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Saw this today. The Falcon looks good so far from what can be seen. I hope the reason that that McQuarrie X-wing (Successor to the OT T-65? We know from the now non-canon EU that the X-wing continued to evolve throughout the books, and I'm not going to complain if they use the McQuarrie design for that.) has such a short nose is because they have yet to add the sensor bulge at the tip. Darth Lurtz Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 Josh Trank is planned to direct a new stand-alone film: http://starwars.com/news/josh-trank-to-direct-stand-alone-star-wars-film.html Quote
Fives Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 I desperately hope that the stand alone film Trank is doing will be focused around a Force user. Chronicle was amazing because it portrayed special powers in such a realistic way, and it would be interesting to see that applied to the Force. Quote

I think the answer may be no. http://www.hothbrick...ve-im-going-in/ The line-up revealed by Hasbro is as follows: 2014: Star Wars Rebels (animated series) 2015 Episode VII 2016 Boba Fett ( Spin-off ) 2017 Episode VIII 2018 Solo ( Spin-off ) 2019 Episode IX 2020: Red Five ( Spin-off or new animated series ? ) Interesting news if true. Darth Lurtz Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 (edited) Gareth Edwards is a great choice for Boba Fett. Part of the appeal of the character is his mysterious nature (one of the numerous things the prequels undid). Like Godzilla, Boba Fett shouldn't be explored as a character. I think the best approach towards basing a movie on him, is to do it like the films, Dredd or Leon: The Professional. Have the movie focus on another character (a protege or rival bounty hunter) while still having Boba Fett in the forefront. Josh Trank is also a good choice for a Han Solo film. Chronicle depicted a tortured soul trying to understand his place in the world. A similar thing can be done with Solo during the rise of the Empire. The problem with both of these films is Disney. They'll probably want to make them as likable as possible. They did this to Maleficent (a very wicked character) in her own movie. Edited June 5, 2014 by Darth Lurtz Quote

If the Fett movie were handled similarly to Dredd, I'd be really happy. But like you said, this is Disney we're talking about, so things likely won't be too dark. Then again, look at some of the stuff from the Pirates films. There is some really dark stuff in there. Quote

It's not so much about how dark the film is, but more with how the characters are portrayed. Boba Fett is a ruthless bounty hunter and Han Solo is selfish smuggler (before A New Hope). Disney might want to make them into misunderstood characters that the galaxy has misjudged. Quote

I don't get it, I don't think I've seen a whiter character in CW or TCW than Ventress, she's chalk white. The article did mention this though... In January, THR reported that Abrams was searching for "a twenty-something female actress who is either of mixed race or black" to play a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Could this be Nyong'o's role? Nom Carver Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 NEW BATTLEFRONT!! Do note the LEGO AT-ST at about 1:30. Why does EA want my money so badly? they are the only ones that could ever convince me to buy a new console through this game, and yes, I noticed the AT- ST too. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 MegaBlokin' MegaBloks! I love everything about this video. The use of studio models for reference, the on-location filming for reference, the amazing in-game graphics (Although they look more like pre-rendered cut scenes than gameplay footage to me — either that, or I'm just too used to sub-par graphics.), the way the devs describe themselves, the use of what sounds like the Empire soundtrack and nothing but OT scenes for the trailer... I know it's not a lot so far, but what we've got is all exactly how I'd want it done if I was the guy in charge of developing this game. I get the sense that this might be a next-gen console release, but hopefully it'll still be available for PC, and my fingers are crossed for a Mac release (and hopefully Aspyr won't mess up the port). It would be neat to see Ventriss in live action. It could also make sense as to why TCW was retained as cannon. Yes Lucas did touch and directly approve it unlike the books, etc. but the recent purge would have allowed them to jettison everything but the movies, but they didn't. They kept the movies AND TCW. Ventriss might in part explain this. Plus let's not forget that following the pilot movie much of the writing voice behind Ventriss was George's daughter Katie. Who seemed to take her on almost as a personal POV character. (Which gets weirder when you realize that Katie Lucas herself was a character in the PT and TCW). And yeah if true it does seem weird at first glance that they would be choosing someone who is quite possibly the darkest skinned A list actress in Hollywood today to play the chalk white Ventriss. But her features and face are just so perfect for the character. The other possibility is strange, but makes some potential sense if you watch TCW. They mention the othe possibility for her is Obi Wan Kenobi's granddaughter. If that is the case, and if TCW is in fact cannon, then there may be two possible paths to that buried within its episodes. One is she is the daughter of Korki Kyrze, Duke of Mandalore and "nephew" of the Duchess Satine. Korki's age is about right for Obi Wan and Satine's relationship. And the only other member of the family we have ever met is Bo Katan who is closer to Korki in age than she is to Satine. So Obi Wan might have an undeclared family or family line on Mandalore. The other possibility is more speculative. Look at the interplay of Obi Wan and Ventress throughout the series. Particularly the Darth Maul story arc. There is something going on there. What would Obi Wan have done when his world and his life crumbled around him? How did he take the fall of the Jedi? Who would he have turned to in his loss and despair? Could he have gotten together with Ventriss? (Granted she is more batting for the other team, in every possible context, but who knows). Is it possible that Nyongo could be both "Ventriss" and the granddaughter of Obi Wan and Asajj Ventriss? Quote
The Legonater Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 First of all, I really, really don't want Ventress in the new movies. For one, it wouldn't make any sense - there's no reason for her to still be alive then. Also, I just... there's no reason to bring a Clone Wars villain into a new series of movies. I don't care how popular she is. There's absolutely no reason to bring in B-list villains like that. Also, Battlefield looks absolutely beautiful in about every way. I can't wait to see more! Quote

Ventriss was originally conceived for Ep II. The replacement for Darth Maul. For whatever reason the concept got dropped but the character art remained and has been added to the animated series. Within the animated series George Lucas's daughter Katie took on Ventriss and gave her some deliciously complex and conflicting emotions and drives and goals and started to build some real character arcs. And through it all she remained a very compelling character. I could see her making the jump to big screen. Others have done the same for less. Ayala Secura was a cover of a Dark Horse Comic that Lucas liked the look of, hence she appeared in the PT. Quote
Mr Man Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Right now, the only thing that could, in any way, make this new Battlefront a let down, is if it only included OT stuff. Everything else about is it is pitch perfect . Quote
Clone OPatra Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Right now, the only thing that could, in any way, make this new Battlefront a let down, is if it only included OT stuff. I'm afraid you might be disappointed then, as the description on the YouTube video reads as follows:Star Wars™ Battlefront™ is the ultimate Star Wars battle experience, brought to life by the creators of Battlefield. Fight in epic Star Wars battles on iconic planets and rise through the ranks playing as the heroic Rebellion or the evil galactic Empire. It definitely seems to me like this game will be OT focused. Just maybe it will include PT stuff as well, but from that description and Disney's shifting focus toward the OT era, I would not be surprised if the game is just OT. Quote
