5150 Lego Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Yeah, I saw it. Pretty nicely done. Although they cut out part of the Imperial March by playing 2 drum rolls at the beginning instead of 4, if I remember correctly. Well you have to remember its comercial. So they have to cram alot into the short time they have. I don't think using only two drum roles toook away from any of it though. Quote

A pity the kid thinks Star Wars movies are too scary. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 This kid has NEVER even seen anything SW related. Let alone the original 3 movies that James Earl Jones voiced. Yeah saw that one too last night on CNN, it was pretty funny and entertaining. But I wouldn't really expect a 4-/5-year old (?) kid to watch the OT movies, being a kid he'll probably get bored after the first few minutes. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 But I wouldn't really expect a 4-/5-year old (?) kid to watch the OT movies, being a kid he'll probably get bored after the first few minutes. Really? I seem to remember all three OT movies start with a big ominous ISD scene... I guess he wouldn't enjoy the more subtle aspects of the films, though. The OT is a complicated emotional story that he probably would just pass over and 'ooh and ah' at the effects instead. Although if he's seen any recent live-action movie he'd probably dismiss the special effects of the OT as primitive, not realizing how groundbreaking they really were. I was actually re-watching TPM the other day because of the recent new set pics, and I was watching the space Battle of Naboo, and there were so many different starfighters buzzing around I couldn't follow them all. Not at all like in AnH where the starfighters seem to move slowly in some scenes, and you can tell which one is which without pausing the movie and stepping through it frame by frame a couple times. Oh, and I think he was 6. Could be wrong though. Quote
XimenaPaulina Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Really? I seem to remember all three OT movies start with a big ominous ISD scene... *snip* Well, you know kids nowadays, with their little attention span I think they would have trouble appreciating the opening scene inside the all-white Tantive IV with rebels doin' some old-school blaster fight. They'd rather watch 'colorful' cartoons/shows like Spongebob, Barney, or Pokemon. But in time when he's mature enough I'm sure he'll recognize the fact the Star Wars paved the way for the current visual effects technology we are enjoying nowadays. Quote

Though even if he was a fan i suppose he still wouldn't know who James Earl Jones was. But that's also the problem. Him meeting JEJ is a complete waste. To people in th know, there meeting a legend in their hobby. But To him he's just another old guy. I guess he wouldn't enjoy the more subtle aspects of the films, though. A very large portion of SW success was due to those "primitive" special affects. To this day i still believe the Special affects of the OT were by far better than the CGI affects of the last 3 movies. They were so ahead of their time it made almost everything fail in comparison that was made during, as well as years after. The new movies were mosr of a step back in terms of animation. That was pretty much my point. It's a pity most kids nowadays can't appreciate the physical studio models and potatoes filmed in multiple shots by the world's first computer-controlled camera to create an asteroid chase. All they can see is the explosions and CGI a la Avatar. (Not to say it was a bad movie; effects were actually pretty good) Quote

Brickdoctor Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Star Wars 3D now has a release date of February 10, 2012 for The Phantom Menace. Can't say I'm that excited, though. And what happened to the traditional May release dates? Quote

And what happened to the traditional May release dates? What happened to the traditional non-3D Star Wars? Yea, TPM is the one I'm least excited about. But seeing Episodes 4-6 on the big screen is a first, so I'm looking forward to it...in, y'know, 2015-2017. Quote

CMP Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Just put the date on my calender. So I know when to do something else. Heh. Now see, if they did this like they realeased the normal versions (OT first) everyone would be going absolutely nuts. Quote
simonjedi Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Heh. Now see, if they did this like they realeased the normal versions (OT first) everyone would be going absolutely nuts. Are they releasing them once every year then? The whole 3D fad is dying pretty quickly and seeing as we have to wait till 2015 untill the GOOD Star Wars films are released. Other than money, what's the point? is there actually people looking forward to watching Anakin getting burned alive in 3D. I totally would see that I don't know, depends on if they mess the films up again (I assume they'll be converted from the blu-ray release right?) and add stupid 'you're watching a 3D movie' stuff. I KNOW there's going to be a scene where Jar Jar's tongue licks the audience or some megablocks like that. Quote

I KNOW there's going to be a scene where Jar Jar's tongue licks the audience or some megablocks like that. Yeah. There's that scene where he licks up the fruit in Ep. 1. I'm betting the best scene is still going to be the first: the Devestator flyover. Nearly 35 years and they still haven't bested that. In 2D, I like the Executor flyby better, but I don't think that'll translate well into 3D. Quote
RileyC Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 So Im the only one looking forward to them then? If they implement the 3D well and not do a crap job like Clash of the Titans then Im sure it will go fine. The biggest reason I will go see them is to just see them in the movie theatre. Big screen, great surround sound and just the movie theatre atmosphere. Still I would rather them rereleased them in the original order, but its still its nice to see them again. Why so much hate for these rereleases? Quote
simonjedi Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 (edited) Why so much hate for these rereleases? Because We're so sick of all these Star Wars. It's a blatant and pointless cash in. also Rule 1138 Rule 1138 is, simply put, "No matter how dumb something in Star Wars or it's accompanying expanded universe is, there is ALWAYS something dumber." Named after THX-1138, the last 4 digits of which constantly occur in the works of George Lucas. Edited March 5, 2011 by simonjedi Quote

I would be fine if with the blatant cash in if (yes I agree with that) these 3D releases's profits are being used to produce the live action TV show. Great movies in a nice new rerelease and being able to see brand new live action SW. Im fine with that. Quote

CMP Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 I think I'll hold onto my cash up until Episode III, from then on out I'm sure I'll be attending. Quote
DarthSion Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 What about Blu-ray?, 3D sucked in the 80s and it still sucks. Quote

BrickArtist Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 What about Blu-ray?, 3D sucked in the 80s and it still sucks. Actually 3-D has come a long way, they've gotten rid of the little red and blue glint and now it's so much better. Quote
CMP Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Actually 3-D has come a long way, they've gotten rid of the little red and blue glint and now it's so much better. Yea, it has. I can't see 3-D because of some eye issue, but I still look forward to see the OT on the big screen. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Actually 3-D has come a long way, they've gotten rid of the little red and blue glint and now it's so much better. It's okay. I agree the red and blue wasn't as good, but the polarized glasses still give me headaches. Actually, I should point out that I haven't actually gone to a theater to see a 3D movie in a few years, so I don't know what the technology is like now. And I used to watch the 4D movies at LLC, but I stopped after they recently got rid of Spellbreaker. So I have no idea what 3D movies look like in a theater. Of course, I probably won't actually go to see Star Wars in 3D for a good 3-4 years, like many others here. Quote

They've new glasses that look more normal and comfortable, unlike the paper ones they used to use. Now entire movies are 3-D as well, not just the snippets of them. Quote
