In Episode 1, let's not forget little Ani. He saved Jar Jar from Sebulba and helped Qui-Gon get the parts needed from Watto. Him starting out good is clear. I think he was good up till Ep. 3 when Palpatine started to influence him.

"I killed them all, and not just the men. But the women. And the children too". Yup really good guy :hmpf:.

Sorry for the off topic post.

Let's not forget he hated Sebulba and wanted to race so badly that he promised Qui-Gon a victory even though he had never won before. Not to mention he goofed around in a starship when he was told not to move, and he didn't bother to tell Padme after the war to save his mom. The only good thing he does is build Threepio, which is an odd choice anyways since he's a protocol droid and only useful for edicate and protocol. Everything else is him just being a kid and wanting to have fun.

Don't get me started on Episode II Anakin, the biggest brat in the universe. He isn't even remotely "good" in that movie, just extremely selfish. What you're stating about good/evil is what Lucas was going for, but he failed miserably at making Anakin a likeable character in the prequels.

That new Darth Plauguis book looks like a must read. Anyway, I have a question about the sizes of the two Death Stars. In Ep. 4, the Death Star looks almost to be the same size of Alderaan, yet in Ep. 6, the DS II looks WAY smaller than the MOON of Endor. Is it just me, or did the Empire downsize the second time around?

Is Plaguies era counted as old republic?, I thought old republic was pre rule of 2.

Dunno for sure. I just know that he lived while the Old Republic was the primary galactic government. The whole era from the creation of the Old Republic 'till the beginning of the PT doesn't contain any changes as drastic as the change from Old Republic to Empire in my opinion.

Oh, I remember all that, but I wasn't referring to the second one. He was a punk in the second one for sure, his anger and hate was taking over, although rightly so, since it involved his mother. And, Stout, you bring up good points to, I hadn't really thought of it like that(speaking of the Ep. 1 Ani). The Ep. 2 one, on the other hand...

Does it get any more evil than this? I think not. This act perpetuated endless suffering in more than one galaxy.

He said that because you said you didn't think Anakin went evil until Sith.

Yes, Ani saves Jar Jar.....that was the plan all a long.....actually I wonder who Skywalker's father really was eh ? (but that's off-topic)

Well I question that too. He could've been adopted . Also, this Star Wars nerd that I know, says his father was the force , yet I don't think that is possible for a real human to have a baby with the force  .

PS. I know this is off-topic but please don't hate me  .

My interest in the EU has always pretty much started and ended with 'Splinter Of The Minds Eye' but my curiosity has been piqued by this Darth Plauguis novel. I found the scene in ROTS where Palpatine tells Anakin about Darth Plauguis quite intriguing - I think this is because my interpretation of the scene was that Plauguis was insinuated to be Anakin's 'force' father (or is that Darth Sideous himself?).

That new Darth Plauguis book looks like a must read. Anyway, I have a question about the sizes of the two Death Stars. I always thought that the Death Star II was supposed to be bigger than the first one. The first DS couldn't be almost the same size as Alderaan because it looked like a 'small moon'. I think in this instance you could attribute the apparent difference in size being down to the Death Star being near and Alderaan being far away. Also, there is no correlation between moon sizes, I could be wrong here, but I've always considered that Endor would be a large moon, maybe around the size of Earth and that Endor would be orbiting some kind of gas giant similar to Jupiter. This is just pure assumption on my part so there's probably something in the EU that shows I'm talking out of my ...

That is not the best example. Splinter of the Minds eye was written before ESB even came out- there was bound to be problems. if you want a better example, try one of Timothy Zahn's books.

Wasn't it implied in Sith that Plagueis created Anakin using the Force?

EDIT: Wookieepedia appears to agree with me:

It was speculated that Plagueis initiated his plans before dying,[1] and according to the Sith Lords, it was Plagueis who influenced the midi-chlorians to conceive Anakin Skywalker.

Well, at the earliest he died 4 years after Anakin was born so that would be odd. However, I always thought that story was to show that the Force could conceive, either willed by someone strong with the Force or just the midi-chlorines themselves. You're probably right though, Lucas just finds the worst ways to explain things.

I disagree. There's nothing wrong with liking the book. There are now some discrepancies, but I enjoyed the book, which has a classic Star Wars spin-off feel to it and is quite good considering how much of the storyline was developed at that time. I certainly thought it better than the comic book stories of that era. In my opinion it was just as enjoyable and just as much a classic as Heir to the Empire. And considering that there's really no part of the storyline considered non-canon, it's not a bad place to start reading ip on the EU.

Let's face it: anything that has to do with midi-chlorians is rather complicated and messy.

I agree. I think Anakin's conception is just how Shmi described it, nothing more, nothing less. Having Sidious or even Plageuis impregnate Shmi with the force is a twisted thought and would be a complicated plan even for Sidious. I think Sidious saw the council hailing this scared and emotionally crippled boy and knew he could be turned to the dark side. Because of their friendship, Sidious knew what would be able to push Anakin over the edge.

I am aware of this, I read 'Splinter of the Minds Eye' (when I was about 8 or 9) before ESB came out  . I have to admit I didn't like it at the time but mostly because my favourite characters (Han & Chewie) weren't involved. However, I think it did go some way to explaining the leap in Luke's force skills between ANH and ESB. The point I was trying to make though, was that I have no interest in the EU but the Darth Plageuis novel does sound interesting.

Shmi Skywalker claims that Anakin has no father. She bore the child, gave birth to him, and raised him. Leading Qui-Gon Jinn to beleive that Anakin is the Chosen One, conceived by Midichlorians.

Darth Sideous says about Darth Plagueis; "He had such a Knowledge of the Dark side that he could manipulate the Midichlorians to create life"

Surely the insinuation here is that Plagueis is Anakin's father - otherwise why bother including it in the script?

All the shots of DS1 shows it was quite far away from Alderaan (For obvious reasons.) DS2 is 'canonically' is larger than DS1. Endor has big moons i guess (Which isn't implausible)

FUN FACT! Splinters was originally going to be a low budget sequel to ANH if the first film was a minor success. That's why there's no han/chewie and it takes place on a foggy planet

True. I just found parts of it strange and fantisy-like. Then again, that is how Star Wars started.

Ah, I see. Sorry for the misconception.

Because Anakin wants to save Padme from death, so if Sidious tells him that a Sith could create life through the Force, it's another reason for Anakin to join them. It also leads up to the statement that Plagueis could prevent people from dying.

I was wondering when you'd post that default_tong.gif

I'm actually fairly surprised of all the hype for this book. Yes, it's an intriquing idea, but it takes a lot to conjour up the excitement of non-EU fans.

'snip'

 Good Healthplan - very funny.

I think Palpatine makes his point well enough with 'extending life' and 'preventing people from dying', I don't think he needs to emphasise the point further by mentioning Plagueis could 'create life'. If there is no additional meaning in this comment then it's just extraneous dialogue and there's certainly no need for that in a film that is already flawed and overly long.

I beleive the comment is there as a knowing wink to the audience because we are aware of Shimi's 'virgin' birth. Plus, Sideous would relish talking to Anakin about his 'father' without him realising. Hopefully all will be revealed in the novel - but somehow I doubt it.

EDIT: BTW, what's the torso in your current avatar Brickdoctor?

I always assumed from watching that scene that either Darth Plagueis or Darth Sideous (could be either, as Palpatine said the master taught the apprentice everything he knew) had created Anakin using the force. I had also assumed that he was talking about himself when referring to the apprentice, not that it was ever stated explicitly. It actually made sense of the "there was no father" weird crap from Episode I, and the dreams Anakin had could also be caused by Sideous "friggin' around with midichlorians" to manipulate The Force or some crap.

It actually is explicitly stated in the novelization of Episode III that Sidious was the apprentice being mentioned. But that leads into a weighting of the different levels of canonicity, which we... probably shouldn't get into.
