DarthSion Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 (edited) For those of you (like me) with a soft spot for James Arnold Taylor you will love this, its his official 30min one man showed on youtube (his own channel) Its called Obi wan and beyond. For those clueless JAT is the voice of Ratchet from ratchet and clank, did Leonardo in the CGI TMNT movie (the game too I think), Obi Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon, Bannamu, Osi Sobeck from the clone wars and hundreds of other shows. http://www.youtube.com/user/JamesArnoldTaylor#p/a/u/0/r3jtbjYtEoM Funny as hell, especially for those of us old enough to have seen all 3 back to the future movies. Also click episode 3, go to the end, there is a preview of the Mustafar battle between Vader and Obi. http://www.youtube.com/user/starwars Edited August 24, 2011 by DarthSion Quote

LandShark Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Some of the deleted/extended scenes sound very interesting/confusing. 'Bail Organa' in Episode I? 'Tosche Station' for Episode IV? The 'Raid on the Droid Control Ship' is one I have heard of, but I thought it was never filmed. Surely they can't of kept all of these deleted scenes secret for this long. The only thing I can think of is if the 'Extended' means... I don't know, filmed recently, animated, or what? But thanks for the list, I might just buy it after all. The things in the documentary disc sound especially good (Anatomy of a Dewback). Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Some of the deleted/extended scenes sound very interesting/confusing. 'Bail Organa' in Episode I? 'Tosche Station' for Episode IV? That would be the confusing Bail Antilles thing. I wonder if this means Bail Antilles' appearance has been retconned as an appearance of Bail Organa. And Tosche Station is a locale in the scene where Luke threads the Stone Needle with his T-16 and the scene where Biggs returns to Tatooine. Fallenangel Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 'Trash-Talking Droids'? Suddenly there's the possibility that Menace could have been even worse. That would be the confusing Bail Antilles thing. I wonder if this means Bail Antilles' appearance has been retconned as an appearance of Bail Organa. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Agreed. But think about it for a moment - don't you think that's something that would be done?"It was my original vision for Bail Organa to appear in Episode I, but he ended up being mixed up with Wedge's original name from Episode IV. Now that we're restoring the movies for the Blu-ray release, we finally have the technology to correct this. The fans are gonna love it." Quote

This time it's actually right- the 'Bail Antilles' thing has been bothering me for a while. Quote
DarthSion Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 You mean the photo? Isn't that already known? No the clip between Obi and Vader from episode 3, on Mustafar before Vader gets burned. Quote

I had heard about the Tosche Station, I wasn't aware they filmed it though. "It was my original vision for Bail Organa to appear in Episode I, but he ended up being mixed up with Wedge's original name from Episode IV. Now that we're restoring the movies for the Blu-ray release, we finally have the technology to correct this. The fans are gonna love it." That actually sound really likely. I'm still confused over how there are so many deleted/extended scenes. They must have... I really don't know what. Also, 'Anakin Kills Shaak Ti / Jedi Imposters at the Temple' remind me a lot of the first Lego Star Wars game. Quote
The Legonater Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Also, 'Anakin Kills Shaak Ti / Jedi Imposters at the Temple' remind me a lot of the first Lego Star Wars game. LEGO took the ideas from Ep.3 and put them in, thinking they'd be in the movie. It's not the first time it's happened, nor the last. The only scene I wish they put in was Obi-Wan fighting the sea monster on Utapua. That always sounded so cool to me. Quote
Artanis I Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 So is Bail Antilles being retconned out completely (after being retconned in to explain the different name given) and replaced by Bail Organa? Or put back in (given screen time etc) to distinguish between the two? I think I prefer the former. All they have to do is change the audio snippet "Antilles" to "Organa" and that part of the movie actually makes sense. I suppose I will find out when I watch... Quote
StoutFiles Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) Please, someone confirm this isn't true. Reports are that the new Blu-Ray SW added Darth Vader's "NOOOO!!" from Episode III into Episode VI when Vader throws the Emperor. They even have video of it. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Star-Wars-Blu-Ray-Adds-Darth-Vader-Screaming-Nooo-As-He-Kills-The-Emperor-26504.html I want to say it's a hoax but it's just something that Lucas would do. He never stops. I know this isn't about Lego but it is about my sanity. Edit: Some additional research has multiple sites confirming it. Edited August 31, 2011 by StoutFiles Quote
Petit-bleu Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 (edited) If it's true it's very good news! That means i don't have to buy the blu-ray pack and therefore can stick to the special edition i already own which include original version. That saves me 78 euros that i can spend on something else. ... It may be a hoax but it's very "Lucaish". Edit: BTW, this "NOOO" is what made me hate ROTS. Edited August 31, 2011 by Petit-bleu Quote
Professor Jones Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Personally, I just stick to original, pre-special edition versions. I will never watch any other editions, to me they don't exist. [rant] I don't care for the prequels either. Look what Lucas did to boba fett. One of the biggest reasons why he was so popular was the fact that he was mysterious and that little was known about him : everyone could use his or her imagination. But episode II ruined this completely. [/rant] Quote
Big Cam Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 People ragging on George Lucas has always bothered me for one main reason. You say he's destroying the OT. Did you forget that he created the OT? Everything that happened in those movies was his idea. Maybe at the time he didn't have the technology to have certain special effects, or after making the prequels he realized something he forgot or decided to update something to better reflect his vision. My point is he is making these updates to make the movies how HE wants them to be and since he created them, he cannot be wrong. Believe me, there are one or two updates that I'm not crazy about, but I don't get all whiny and say I'm not going to buy my favorite movie set in the best video format to date. Are you really going to avoid seeing these films which you are obviously passionate about in HD, all because of an additional word that will affect about 2 second of a 2+ hour movie? Get real. Quote
Professor Jones Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 It's not about 2 seconds. It's not like this particular change was the only one that I didn't like, far from it actually. And no I didn't forget that Lucas created this. Just because I liked what he did back then doesn't mean that I'll like everything he does. Just like you can enjoy one album for a musician but not like the next one, even though they have the same creator. Quote

The original OT was a collaborative effort. Have you ever heard what the cast would have been had Lucas not been challenged? Brickdoctor Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 The voice sounds awful. Never mind the fact that Vader doesn't need to say 'Noooo!'; I always thought the lack of speaking during that final blast of Force Lightning added to the drama of the moment; the voice doesn't even fit it. It's too deep and loud. And then when he first says it, it's 'NOoo...', and I'm going, "No, what?". At least when he says it the second time, he yells it out and it sort of matches what he's doing. The first time he says it like he's having a conversation with the Emperor and pumped up his in-suit amplifier to make his normal voice be louder than Luke's screaming. And the Emperor, master of the Force that his is, has now been changed from someone concentrating too much power towards Luke to to suspect Vader to someone who's too concentrated in everything to hear someone speaking louder than every other sound in the room. Not only does it make Vader look bad, it makes the Emperor look less powerful because now you imply that he was oblivious to a physical sense, hearing, in addition to the Force where Vader was concerned. People ragging on George Lucas has always bothered me for one main reason. You say he's destroying the OT. Did you forget that he created the OT? My point is he is making these updates to make the movies how HE wants them to be and since he created them, he cannot be wrong. He might have created the universe, but the author of the article is right - he has no right to tinker with Empire and Jedi. Those were other director's work. He may have written the basic story, but he let someone else decide how the story was told. This addition doesn't change the plot of the movie, (and it would be even worse if it did) so he shouldn't be messing with it. Quote
Zzz Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 I only watch the original movies that luckily came with the UK box as "extra DVDs". Still, they don't have the quality of the THX remastered VHS tapes, but since I don't own a VHS player anymore, I am happy with that. Everything that came afterwards is rubbish, no one needs it. The Family Guy movies were more of a tribute than all those "better" versions. Quote

I can't believe you asked me not to post my misguided thoughts, are you in control of this board? Also I never said anything I said was a fact, you twisted that yourself. Brickadeer Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Personally, the only change made by Lucas I actually like some of the digital improvements of certain scenes. I do not like the additional Mos Eisley Scenes which add a kind of humor to the films that I simply don't like. I do not like the change of the Han Solo's "stormtrooper chasing scene" in the Death Star. I do not like the new song of the Ewoks since it totally fragged up the chorus at its end. And, surprise, I do not like this "No, no!" scene. Such media should have an option whether the old or the new scenes should be shown. The media is certainly capable of that, and Lucas would avoid such problems. Quote

Also I never said anything I said was a fact, you twisted that yourself. I said he has a right to change them, but again that was my opinion that you mistook for a fact. He has the right to change the prequels and Episode IV, as he directed them and they are his vision. As he didn't direct V or VI, he has no right to edit them. When directors do release director cuts though, they give the option of watching the original cut, not editing over the original 35 mm film and trying to change history. 30 years from now, the only version of the untouched OT will still be on DVD as a poor Laserdisk conversion. This has nothing to do with your opinions on whether the changes improve or hurt the movie. I enjoy some things about the SE, for instance. I do, however, want the choice to watch one or the other, especially for future generations watching for the first time. When you add dialogue and try to hide the original, you change history. As for Lucas getting 100% credit for everything SW, that is untrue and needs to be said. Lucas started an idea, and collaboration made SW what it was. Quote
DarthSion Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Why does this need its own topic, there is a star wars thread already discussing the movie, or at least change the thread name to OT fanboy rant. Who cares if it is that big a deal don't buy it, damn OT fanboys. Quote
