Fallenangel Posted December 26, 2011 Posted December 26, 2011 GOUT I should also point out, making a new transfer from a 35mm source is not expensive. It literally costs thousands of dollars, which is why stuff like Revenge of the Nerds 2 are presented in modern, anamorphic transfers from 35mm material. Lucas has convinced some people that one would have to totally restore the films for them to look good and spend millions of dollars, but they would still look acceptable if taken from existing prints and materials, and certainly many times better than a master made in 1993. As I have written in other articles for this page (most recently here), Fox restored the negatives in 1995-1997, and almost all of the work is already done. But of course, given that Lucas is a billionaire, this is a moot point, isn't it? Which is why his using this 1993 master is likely a deliberate attempt to create an unfair advantage for his Special Edition. How much of this article is true? Quote
Brickadeer Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) There has been a lot of talking (and complaints) about an editioned scene of ROTJ (Blu-Ray). I mean ; Vader says now "No!" two times before he saves Luke.Has anyone noticed the strong resemblance (one silent "No...", followed by a screamed "NOOOOOOO!!!!") to from TCW s3e17? It ends with a vision of Darth Vader, and the force wielding Emperor is part of the vision as well.In s3e17, Anakin becomes dark for the very first time as a consequence of a conscious decision, trying to avoid the consequences of what he will become. In ROTJ, he becomes good again, and again it is a consequence of a conscious decision, trying to avoid the consequences of what he had become. Edited December 29, 2011 by Brickadeer Quote

Not the very first time- that'd be in Episode 2 when he slaughters the Tusken Raiders. Other than that, that's an interesting theory. Quote

Oky Posted January 11, 2012 Author Posted January 11, 2012 You don't need an account; you can just go on there and press No Thanks to the subscription. But here you go anyway: Back around the time when Ewan McGregor was hacking off Hayden Christensen's arms and legs, producer Rick McCallum and famed meddler George Lucas came out and explained how the rest of the Star Wars saga was going to play out. And there was us thinking that George Lucas was done ruining our collective childhoods. You might remember a Clone Wars TV series was announced (of which there were two, equally badass) a live action comedy series (Of which Seth Green is apparently working on) and finally a live action show that promised...well, Rick and George wern't too specific on that one. At last! Facts! Rick McCallum has done a video interview where he explains that over fifty, one hour episodes have been written! Fifty! That's almost three seasons! Rick also says that the show will be called Star Wars: Underworld! Cool! But what's it about? "It's underneath what's going on. It's the criminals and the gangs. Like the guys who are running Wall Street, basically." Star Wars: Underworld will focus on the adventures of Bounty Hunters (think Boba Fett), smugglers (think Han Solo) and gangsters (think Jabba The Hut). So it's a show about Han Solo and Boba Fett teaming up to fight Jabba The Hut?! Ok that was speculation, but it sounds kind of cool anyway right? Focusing on the seedy bars and night clubs on planet in the outer rim, Underworld will tackle the seedy underbelly of the Star Wars universe in a live action grimy violent setting. Rick has big hopes and plans for the show likeing it to The Godfather. Maybe that's a bit much Mr. McCallum but we can't say we're not super excited for this one! When can we expect this amazing sounding slice of Galactic Cake? Well since Rick isn't too sure, I'm going to go ahead and pass on a nugget on info that suggests that filming may begin as early as the end of this year to the start of 2013. With a possible appearance on the tube around summer 2013 to winter 2013/2014. So don't hold your breath just yet! Not a whole lot of news, but at least it's something, so we know the project isn't dead yet. I think they're being a bit optimistic about the release date, especially since McCallum said that they wanted to wait one or two years. Quote
Flipz Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 To those who have been following this project more closely, does anyone know of any "cover" titles this production has been working under? As I said earlier, I am very much interested in trying to get cast, as I'd love to be involved in a art of Star Wars history. Especially considering the time period (post-Clone Wars, pre-Rebellion) it's set in... Quote
DarthSion Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Too bad there is no new info, and I doubt we will get it next year, if Lucas only said last year it was going to cost 50million per episode to make unless some massive new break through happens soon we won't get it. Quote
legolandia Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Well, I am glad to her that new Star Wars stuff is going to come out, however I do hope that the scripts for this series doesn't clash and invalidate what has been written in the EU books so far. The Clone Wars did mess things up in that aspect which upset quite a few people and caused some authors to refuse writing for SW any more. On the other hand I wish that Lucas stopped wasting money by doing live TV shows and just released another trilogy. It doesn't have to be Ep. 7,8,9. It can be set 300-1000 years after Darth Vader and be called something like Hyperspace Wars 3 or something... Quote
Costy Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 The new show sounds like it could be interesting. Hopefully they don't make a mess of it! Quote

Even if he started now he'll be over 80 years old by the time episode 9 would be released. Quote

Brickdoctor Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 He could write the scripts now, and his daughter, Katie, could take over production if need be. I hope not. The last time I remember she did something, she supposedly extensively researched Ventress' backstory to write a CW episode...and completely destroyed the existing backstory instead. (changing the home world to Dathomir, removing her warlord parents from the story entirely) Quote

Also, I said HE would write the script, and she could direct/produce. And, I don't think she wrote that episode. Quote
The Legonater Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Personally, I wouldn't want either of them writing the script. After all- it's not Filoni's fault TCW is messed up, it's Lucas'. Quote

If George "Retconned Original Vision" Lucas isn't going to do it, I don't want his place taken by someone who's going to mess up as much of the storyline as he did. Just because she isn't any worse than him doesn't make her a better writer. Quote

The Legonater Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Well, we can be certain Lucas isn't writing it, as he says he's retiring in the article below: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/22/magazine/george-lucas-red-tails.html?pagewanted=1&_r=2 I must say, it's a strange shock. Yes, he's getting old, but he's made some amazing movies, and despite all the things people hate about some, they were revolutionizing in several ways. Quote
