LEGOman273 Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 Do you know where I can watch TCW Season 3 Episode ARC Troopers? Try Youtube. I watched a few episodes that I missed ("A Friend in Need" and "Deception") The quality was not good, though. I was watching it on my phone, so it might be that. Quote

The Legonater Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 For Valentine's day, someone posted this great review, with some beautiful artwork by Chris Trevas, the illustrator for many SW books, including Star Wars: The New Essential Guide to Alien Species, Star Wars Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, Star Wars: The Essential Atlas and Star Wars: Millennium Falcon: 3D Owner’s Guide. http://star-wars.suvudu.com/2012/02/the-beat-of-the-heart-star-wars-kisses.html And I also stumbled apun last year's, with more Christ Trevas artwork: http://star-wars.suvudu.com/2011/02/star-wars-tim-zahn-judges-call-short-story.html Okay, I'll admit, I perhaps enjoy this a little too much Quote

Poison Ivy Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) Okay, I'll admit, I perhaps enjoy this a little too much I enjoyed it too, and I'm a girl, so yeah. Maybe I enjoy it a little too much too, considering I'm not a die-hard SW fan, nor a romance fan. Edited February 16, 2012 by Poison Ivy Quote

simonjedi Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 So I saw TPM3D last night and I was surprised how much better the film was than what I remembered. The stuff that I liked before I still like now but the stuff that I didn't was worse somehow. There is some weird editing choices and some really atrocious line delivery. I admit I got chills when the theme tune started and I'll definitely see the OT when it comes out.. Quote

Where they any changes compared to the Special Editions or the Blue Ray release? Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 Where they any changes compared to the Special Editions or the Blue Ray release? I have not seen the Blu Ray, but the Coruscant Taxi deleted scene is now in the film. The introduction to the Podracing drivers is a mix and match from the original cut and the extended scene. I also can't remember if the scene with Sidious and Maul talking on Coruscant was in the original cut or was just a deleted scene, but that is in the 3D version. simonjedi, I assume you meant to say that it was worse than you remembered? You said 'better,' but then you go on to describe all bad things. Quote

You said 'better,' but then you go on to describe all bad things. No, I meant better. It's was just some examples of the stuff that stuck out to me more. It's pretty easy to guess what the stuff I liked about the film is. I'm not see the blu-ray but like Clone O'Patra said It's afaik the coruscant deleted scenes and the podrace is longer and has more 'wacky hyjinks' Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 It's pretty easy to guess what the stuff I liked about the film is. Uh, how so? I don't know what your taste is. Saying that you thought the film was better but then going on to describe new detracting things you noticed doesn't make any sense. You don't have to explain if you don't want to, but I'm just saying that your post was confusing. I didn't like the film any better than ever. Episode I is extremely wooden, and 3D didn't change that. I could probably say that I liked it less because new things about it stuck out to me as annoying, but it was still fun to experience on the big screen. I did fall asleep during the podrace though; that always bores me to tears. Quote

Fives Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 I saw the 3D TPM a couple of nights ago, and I felt underwhelmed. The 3D was underused. I guess converting old movies to 3D doesn't always look good, but I felt that most of the time I could watch the movie fine with the glasses off. Also, I'm surprised no one pointed out the fact that now Yoda is CG, like in the Blu-Ray version. Overall, I was happy to see a SW film in theatres again. Quote

I'm not really surprised at that. 3D usually doesn't turn out well during conversions, just because it's all faked instead of filmed with separate cameras. I expect Clones and Sith will be better, though, if not only because they use so much more CGI. (which, of course, already exists as a 3D file) Me, I don't plan to see any of them. I'll just go see Star Wars and Empire just because they're my favorite, and then stick to my DVD copy of the original theatrical releases. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 3D being 'underused' honestly only depends on what you hope from a 3D film. If you want objects 'popping out' of the screen, then yes, you will be underwhelmed. But that is not really what 3D in films is about any more. Popping out is just a gimmick, and it is a gimmick that Lucas specifically did not want to do. What 3D does more generally is add visual depth between all objects, and I think they actually did that quite well. It was a much better conversion than older converted films such as the end of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix or the recent Alice in Wonderland film. Now, does the depth really add something to the film over a regular 2D film? Maybe not, but I thought it still looked good and was well done. Quote
Flipz Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Okay, I'll admit, I perhaps enjoy this a little too much I'm a few days late, but whatever. I really enjoyed it--and it makes me miss Mara Jade even more. (Yes, Sacrifice was awesome and made of win, and there really was no other way to end it, but I'm still sad we had to lose Mara.) As for TPM3D, I'm wondering if I should go see it or not. On the one hand, I didn't manage to see TPM in theatres at all, I had to watch on VHS the first time, but on the other... Let's also remember, for the sake of fairness, that George Lucas' worst work is far, far better than many other directors' best work. TPM's no Raiders of the Lost Ark or Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade or The Empire Strikes Back, but it's not exactly Twilight either, and there are PLENTY of movies worse than TPM out there. Quote

(great book, by the way; not as good as the Thrawn Trilogy, in my opinion, but better than the Fate of the Jedi stuff coming out) Quote

(great book, by the way; not as good as the Thrawn Trilogy, in my opinion, but better than the Fate of the Jedi stuff coming out) Remember that wacko fan theory about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, about Indy dying in the fridge incident and the rest of the movie being just a dream? Well, from the plot synopses of the FotJ stuff coming out, I may have to concoct one about Luke dying when they do that weird netherworld-of-the-Force thing and the rest of the series being non-canon. (Speaking of which, as much as I like Luke, they've got to kill him off soon. His dramatic arc has nowhere left to go, not to mention we're getting dangerously close to the backstory timeline for the awesome Legacy comics. FotJ would have been a much better concept if Luke just mysteriously died right after the trial business and everyone else had to pick up the pieces from there, IMO.) Though, I do like the concept of Ben dating a darksider, if that were done well it would be a VERY interesting read. However, I doubt it's being done well. Choices of One...definitely one I'll check out. It can't be worse than the ending to Millennium Falcon, that's for sure... These days, I find myself sticking to older stuff as I can find it. I still need to find a paperback of the second book of the Thrawn trilogy, I have Heir to the Empire and The Last Command, but Dark Force Rising always seems to be out of stock. I'm likely going to just pick up everything with Mara Jade in it eventually. Or everything by Aaron Allston and Karen Traviss (NOT Troy Denning, I could barely get through his books...). Quote
Brickdoctor Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Speaking of Timothy Zahn books, the amazing author recently noted he's working on an Ocean's Eleven type-book. For those who haven't seen Ocean's Eleven, it's one of the best heist movies I've ever watched. He was supposed to be working on another Star Wars book, too. Judgment of Proteus (Quadrail book 5) comes out this summer, though, so that should satisfy me for a few months. Remember that wacko fan theory about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, about Indy dying in the fridge incident and the rest of the movie being just a dream? Yes! I love that theory. It makes so much sense. Though, I do like the concept of Ben dating a darksider, if that were done well it would be a VERY interesting read. However, I doubt it's being done well. Yeah, the older stuff is better. Allegiance is recent but was pretty good. Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future, and Survivor's Quest were all quite good, and Outbound Flight is one of the only CW-era novels I enjoyed. Kevin J. Anderson's and Michael Reaves and Steve Perry's books are pretty good, too, I think. (though the latter two tend to go for the darker, dirtier side of romance - not really my thing)My main grip with Choices of One was that I thought a lot of the characters who aren't supposed to meet until Heir to the Empire get a little too close to each other. It was interesting seeing Mara being an exponentially better Force-user than Luke, though. Quote

Flipz Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 As if his father didn't do the same thing. True, but IDK, Mara seems a bit more...wholesome than this girl in the new books. By the time she met Luke in Heir, she'd had a few years to sort of "cool off", she never seemed THAT dark. Obviously, compared to Luke himself, she's a lot darker, but that's like comparing silver jewelery to a sheet of pure white paper--they're both pretty bright, it's just that one is a bit darker than the other. (It probably helps that I haven't read any MJ stuff that takes place pre-Heir, either.) Then again, the new girl is probably either a poorly-written rehash of MJ-Luke, or else they're turning it into a gender-flipped Twilight. Yeah, the older stuff is better. Allegiance is recent but was pretty good. Specter of the Past, Vision of the Future, and Survivor's Quest were all quite good, and Outbound Flight is one of the only CW-era novels I enjoyed. Kevin J. It was interesting seeing Mara being an exponentially better Force-user than Luke, though. Jude Watson's stuff is pretty good. It's obviously dumbed down just a little bit (kind of like Ninjago the TV show is), and the editors were terrible about catching spelling and name errors, but the stories themselves are alright. They're miles above TPM and Troy Denning. (Oh, and to add on to my earlier point: Denning's work is worse than TPM and the Anakin-Padme excuse-for-a-love-story combined Seriously. Only ever read it for plot exposition of other works, and then only if you have to, it's terrible.) Well, that actually sounds kinda interesting, like "oh are they gonna meet, are they gonna meet, oh, they just missed each other!" As long as it doesn't get to the point of, "Really? They still don't get it after THAT obvious slip-up?" *cough*NinjagoKai'sNonexistentAbilityToKeepASecret*cough*, then I'm down with it, and I actually kinda like those scenarios. Quote
