Yes but, as I said, the storyline was fantastic. Anakin's turn to the dark side is truly moving, and a lot of people who understood the story of the prequels think that Palpatine's manipulation of the senate was great story-telling, although I can't say I know myself, I have an abnormally short attention span, however if I were to take a guess I'd say I'm pretty sure that those people are right. So in my opinion (and I do know that that's all it is, an opinion, just like everyone else's), the story was even better than the OT. As for the acting, I didn't really mind that at all. It was good enough, and the other positive things that there were in the movies far outweigh that small negative aspect.

Ah yes, episode 3 wrapped everything up perfectly, but Aayla Secura died, and that has to be a crime against humanity. I just hope that this new trilogy can have good acting, good special effects, and a good plot, though with JJ directing I don't know what to expect. Will he be good, or will he be bad? And so the wait begins...

I do agree that a lot of people jump on the 'hate the prequels' bandwagon without forming an opinion of their own.

I also like the prequels, especially Episode III. The only problems I had were the differences in theme between the two series (and multi-coloured clones ).

ROTS could have been two films, Anakin did go a bit quickly from the beginning to killing children. I believed Vader in OT when he told Luke that he wanted the Empire to stabilise the galaxy, something Anakin also said in ROTS, but that's not really born out over the films.

No. I'm sure a few people in the world do this but just... generally no.

There's no real defense for the prequels. They're just not well made movies. Lucas didn't have a filter and went unchallenged which made him do worse. There are opinions, and then there's just wrong opinions lol. I tried for like a decade to like the movies, find some redeemable quality that makes them worth it... but I eventually gave up. People aren't jumping on a hate bandwagon to fit in. These movies are very much not as good. I won't say they're terrible or anything. It's just comparing them to the original trilogy is tough... since they're so much worse. :P

Red Letter Media does an incredibly good job at explaining why the prequels suck. I'd highly recommend watching his Star Wars stuff even if you like the prequels because they're funny too.

Well I'd say speak for yourself, it's very obvious when someones just going along with what someone else says. I love the prequel trilogy Lego sets, especially anything episode 2, I like the prequels but don't know why. But some people just go along with what others say, and sometimes, it's very noticeable. Just like when someone says they hate a Lego set they never bought because most reviewers say so, or when someone who's never read anything out of the new 52 judges it like they have an entire collection, or when someone says they don't like a food they've never tasted because others didn't like it.

I agree with your point that the PT had its flaws, no real character development outside of Anakins and Obi-Wan's little fortress of spotlight. Terrible acting, excessive CGI and frequent female cameos without any real female roles, outside of Padme that is. And everything was expected, there wasn't any plot twist to make someone say "wow, even now I'm surprised". But it did have it's good points. The fighting scenes were very good IMO, and at times, the CGI fit in well. I liked the Prequel Trilogy, but not because others say they do. But you can bet your clone trooper that someone (plenty of people really) say they don't because others don't.

Why are the people who always claim that the prequel trilogy sucks always so impolite about it? It annoys me. Another thing I don't appreciate is all the prequel trilogy dislikers stating their opinions as if they're fact. They hardly ever say "in my opinion...", or even "I think...".

I hope that the villan is tied into something said iin the first film..

'which is dead the master or the apprentice?'

-i think thats right-

It would just be intresting to see that Palpatine wasn't the master and WAS the apprentice

We do already have a book detailing Plagueis' fate and how very evident it is that he has become complacent and inferior to Palpatine by the time he's killed during the events of Menace. (Not that I would be surprised if Disney and Lucas ignore that, but for now, we know what the situation was as far as Palpatine being master or apprentice.)

Annoying twists like that would be expected more if Christopher Nolan was doing SW, instead of Abrams. And full of holes (if you think that's an oxymoron, then consider it like swiss cheese...) If the rule of 2 stands, then Darth Vader would've had to be the master, but that makes no sense considering the PT. Yeah, I can't reconcile that idea.

Posted

That would take too much away from Palpatine. He was the master.

That doesn't mean Plagueis can't have a good story. IMO the book with him is really lackluster. Books are easily rewritten though but it doesn't seem many would be too interested in more prequel stuff.

A TV series based on a younger Palpatine from the perspective of the dark side could be cool. It won't happen though.

Yeah, the book ended up being more about Palpatine than about Plagueis, despite the title, and the book had so many connections and coincidences and behind the scenes reveals of stuff from other publications that it moved beyond "Wow, the Sith were manipulating everything," and became "This is just ridiculous."

I'm surprised to see that no one has been talking about the rumour that Boba Fett's origin could potentially be changed in his spin-off movie.

http://comicbook.com/blog/2014/01/17/star-wars-spinoff-rumor-boba-fetts-origin-will-be-altered-dramatically/

Apparently, Lawrence Kasdan hates the PT, and hated how Boba, the once mysterious and intriguing bounty hunter, was reduced to a clone child, removing much of his unique individuality.

The plan is basically to have the clone Boba be murdered by some other bounty hunter or something, and this newcomer steals the Mandolorian armour and Slave 1, and takes on Boba's identity, thus breaking the connection between Boba and the PT.

At first, I was bothered by this idea. I didn't like it because I felt like Kasdan was willing to drastically change a previously established part of the films just because he's annoyed by it. It seems selfish.

However, after some thought, I believe that this move could prove positive in the overall portrayal of Boba in the OT. The only way that this move could improve the character is if the new Boba has a significant reason for his actions. I personally believe that they could take advantage of the fact that (at least to my knowledge), the Boba from the PT has never had an explicit meeting with Han Solo. This means that there's no preexisting basis for Boba's feud with Solo.

The new character could be introduced to be an old enemy of Solo's, perhaps introducing him in the inevitable Solo spin-off film. This man could have been beaten by Solo, and been in hiding for some reason. He comes across Boba, and sees the potential anonymity that the armour lends. He takes advantage of this, and steals Boba's identity. With his new identity, this man could then come out of hiding and resume his hunt for Solo. All of this could make Boba's efforts to capture Solo in ESB that much more personal.

It's just an interesting theory, but I think I'd be happy with this if Kasdan must change the character.

I'm fine with him disliking a character. I don't feel they should break over 10 years of established canon because of that, though.

I kind of agree with his opinion. (Okay, so that's mostly just because I'm an OT guy.) But as much as I vastly prefer one part of the saga to all the others, and as much as I can't say I'd mind if the PT was retconned, it's also always been my stance to accept what's been added to canon no matter how bad it is, and that future publications should at least respect that, and then ignore it and let it be instead of trying to overwrite it or 'fix' it. Someone messed up, I hate what they did, fine, now let's just stop focusing on that and do something else instead of making it worse. (Remember how much we complained about the ridiculous Force powers and irrealistically powerful Grievous in the '03 CW series? Remember how the '07 TCW series promised to fix things like that? How many of us would rather just have back Mace Windu from the Dantooine arc and Grievous from the Hypori arc, compared to what happened in TCW?)

Honestly I'm fine with them disrespecting prequel canon. Boba Fett was always one of the most popular Star Wars characters so what do they do? They turn him into an annoying little brat kid. He went from cool myserious d00d to a stupid child.

"Annoying little brat kid"? What exactly is your reasoning for that? I'd recommend checking out The Clone Wars. It does a fantastic job of setting him up as the badass bounty hunter we all know and love.

It's canon now, it's too late. He definitely shouldn't change it. If it was a book in the EU that's a different matter.

Never say never. One day they could entirely replace the prequels ;).

You must have watched a different The Clone Wars TV series than me. He was an annoying little brat kid there too. There was absolutely zero "bad@$$" about him in that series.

I agree, he was if anything more badass in Clones. In Clones he hopped into Slave I and pinned down a Jedi Knight without hesitation. In TCW he just seemed to run around whining or monologuing* or trying and failing until some bigger badder bounty hunter came along and did stuff for him.

*Maybe that's not entirely the right word — what I mean there is that I remember a lot of him saying stuff to seem badass but then being unable to back it up.

He brought down a Venator through infiltration and nearly killed Mace Windu in the process.

Having seen all 112(Yes, 112, not 108. Don't ask.) episodes of TCW, I can list everything he did:

-In "Death Trap", he infiltrated a clone cadet squad, set an explosive that killed a clone, and disabled a Star Destroyer. Not bad, but he still had to be picked up by Aurra Sing

-In R2 Come Home, he whined about Mace Windu a LOT. He kept telling the other bounty hunters to keep moving, but he did nothing but walk around and blow up a helmet.

-In Lethal Trackdown, he was a completely useless character. All he did was shoot a blaster. His character seemed to evolve with those three episodes, but at the end he still acted like a jerk.

-In Deception, he was paid by Cad Bane to knock Kenobi's tray out of his hands. Yeah, sure beats green armor and jetpack, huh?

-In Bounty, he and his team defended a train. He got cool armor and spent a lot of time shooting ninjas, but near the end he started his annoying banter about getting better pay.

All in all, his TCW appearances seemed like cameos instead of guest roles, except for his story arc. A story arc in season six would have seen him teaming up with Hondo, Bane and Sing, but that never happened. Shame.

Once again, the OT version wins!

Thanks; that is what I remembered about him in general. Taking out the Venator, okay, that was pretty good, but didn't he just shoot a reactor somewhere with a blaster? Nothing special; find and destroy the reactor has become standard Star Wars procedure, and I just remember him shooting something with a sidearm.

Once again, the OT version wins!

Hurrah! :classic:

Like I said earlier, Kasdan's changes can only be warranted if they serve the story correctly. Giving Boba a defined reason to hate Han would help explain his actions in the OT.

Han and Boba have always been considered as arch-nemesi to each other. The funny thing is, there has never really been a good reason for it. Given what info we have from the films, Boba captured Han only because he is a bounty hunter, and there was no other motive behind it. If this new Fett could have previous ties to Solo, and just be using Fett's identity as a disguise, then his appearances throughout the OT (tagging along with Jabba on Mos Eisley as a way of getting a glimpse at Solo, taking the call from Vader and following Solo to Bespin, and sticking around in Jabba's Palace in ROTJ) would have so much more significance within the story as a whole. It makes Boba a much more dynamic character. It just makes so much sense to me.

Posted

I'm not sure what exactly would qualify him as badass in the OT either, he doesn't really do much other than stand around. Sure, he grappled Luke in ROTJ, but then he's knocked into the Sarlaac pit ten seconds later by a blinded Han. I don't really know what this awesome level of Boba Fett everyone expects from everything he's in.
