The awesomeness of Boba Fett mostly comes from outside of the OT, but not in the PT.

He's been in countless comics (as he later was able to escape the Sarlaac Pit). If you're not into comics he's been in a lot of video games. His character largely grew beyond what it was in the OT.

There's something about him that for whatever reason makes the general populace think he's awesome. Maybe it's his design. Or the fact that everyone made kind of a big deal about him (Han seemed to make a big deal about him, so much so that the actors though Boba Fett would be a prominent character in Return of the Jedi). Whatever it is, he's got a certain way about him... that the prequels and show just suck at mimicing.

I'm not sure what exactly would qualify him as badass in the OT either, he doesn't really do much other than stand around. Sure, he grappled Luke in ROTJ, but then he's knocked into the Sarlaac pit ten seconds later by a blinded Han. I don't really know what this awesome level of Boba Fett everyone expects from everything he's in.

I don't think he's that great OT-wise. EU made him into something, but I don't read that stuff and neither do a lot of people. Jango was cooler in the movies than he was, and he was only in one.

Kids back in the day probably saw him as awesome because you couldn't see his face and knew nothing much about him, making him mysterious. He was forgettable to me, just like all those rebels that everyone seems to know the names of.

So lovely to see more of Karen Traviss' work getting completely trashed. You know. In case there was some of it that hadn't been de-canonized yet. :hmpf_bad:

I'm a huge SW fan and I never got the hype with Boba Fett either. He had a cool mask... and I think that's about his entire character back story done!

Rebels keeps looking better and better! It's so great that the creators are paying such close attention to the influence of Ralph McQuarrie, and an overall "used universe" aesthetic. This fall can't come soon enough.

He had a jet packet and he looked really cool. Doesn't take any more than that for a little boy.

So my brother and I were discussing the other day while waiting to see the lego movie with our kids the upcoming episode vii. A life size millennium falcon has been built and is ready for filming. Plus a good deal of other models have been built so they can tone down the cgi. They are trying to make the new movie look more like the OT. I also know the old writer was let go because he wanted to focus on the children of Luke, Leia and Han. The new writers focused on the three themselves. This led to talk about the cgi additions made to the OT by Lucas and how it's now hard to find unaltered versions without paying a great deal.

I wondered that since Disney seems to be trying to capture the old look if at some point they would rerelease the unaltered versions.

Any thoughts from people here? Any rumors to be told of?

^ This is great news if it's true. One thing out of the many, many things that I despised about the prequels is that almost every scene had CGI in it, destroying the true essence of the films.

For me I wouldn't have minded the amount of CGI used in the PT if it wasn't so poorly done. A lot of CGI still looks good if done right.

The appeal of Boba Fett is very very simple. Lucas viewed him as a throwaway character. Just background. One of the Bounty Hunters. But to the fans back in the dark days of 1978 Boba was something wildly different. he was the first little glimpse we got that there would be more! If you sent in all the UPC codes from the Kenner Star Wars action figures you would get a special new figure. A Bounty Hunter... from the NEXT movie!!!! For most of us this was the first inkling that there would even be another movie. That we would get to go back to that amazing universe. Remember back then sequels were all but unheard of. Franchises and Universe Building was rare unless it was James Bond.

So we got this new figure. Boba Fett. He came in a plain box with very very little info. We knew his name, and that he was a Bounty Hunter. Everything else we had to make up ourselves until the movie came out. Oh and what stuff he had for our imaginations. He was visually stunning (George's special gift of character design.) he had cool armor, and a rocket pack and blasters. OMG he looked better than the Stormtroopers. The stories we made up involving him fueled our dreams for years, because he was quite frankly all we had to work with at that point. And then he was kind of poorly used in the movies and just tossed away. But it didn't matter to us, because he was there in all of his glory doing some stuff. Lucas never understood the fire he lit under his fanbase by putting that teaser character in their little 11 year old hands. He just thought of it as a bit of a marketing throwaway, and never understood our love for the character.

And then he went and did it all over again 20 years later with Darth Maul. Once again the first glimpses we get of new Star Wars is Darth Maul AND HE IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!! The black the red the dual bladed lightsaber! The look the moves the music! The quick pointless throwaway death... ummm...whaaaa? Yep Boba Fett all over again.

To be fair, though, Boba Fett's "theme" is essentially a few bars of a gurgly bassoon tune... not really as nice a thematic sound as Duel of the Fates.

So this thread has kinda been quiet for a while, and I thought someone should revive it.

It has been reported that Tatooine sets are being built for Episode 7, however it seems that rather than use the old Tunisia locations, they are building in Morocco.

While its exciting to hear that Tatooine will return for Episode 7, I'm a little upset that they aren't returning to Tunisia. Then again, they're is likely a good enough reason.

Also, even though a return to Tatooine would be amazing, I'm really hoping that this new trilogy introduces a few new planets to become prominent fixtures in the Saga (much like how the Prequels gave us Naboo and Coruscant).

Boring old Tatooine again?!? Why? 6 out of 7 movies had scenes there already. Jabba (and everyone else) is dead, no need to go back there. I have a bad feeling about this.

I vote for Alderaan!!!.....Oh wait.....

Luke probably lives there. I bet his Uncle and Aunt left him their land in their will. Now he's but a simple Moisture Farmer who happens to be a Jedi.

:P

I want it to start with a flashback (since it will be a sequel obviously) of the Sarlacc Pit with a camera slowly zooming into the beast's mouth for at least 10-15 seconds. And just as the camera's zoom gets as close as it possibly can, Boba Fett's fist pops out! Yeah, I'm a huge Boba Fett fan and I know that scene will most likely never happen, unless it happens in the Boba Fett spinoff. Just wishful thinking though.

I don't mind seeing Tatooine again. I don't see how you could call it boring. It is where Threepio and R2D2 were kidnapped by a bunch of Jawas, where Han Solo shot first and killed Greedo, where Anakin Skywalker podraced (and that scene was awesome for all you PT haters out there), where Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and the gang almost died in the jaws of the Rancor and the pit of the Sarlacc, and where we heard about midi-chlorians for the first time. Okay, just kidding about the last one but I think the last thing you can say is that Tatooine is boring.

:vader: "I hate sand"

Desert sand, sand, sand, sand coloured rocks, sand... it's not the kind of setting I'd like the movies to continually revisit. There are so many other (far more interesting) planets to choose from!

I don't mind going back to Tatooine again as long as we're not revisiting old locations like the Lars Homestead or Mos Eisley Cantina for the sake of nostalgia.

One thing I loved about TPM and ROTJ was they kept things fresh by adding new settings like Mos Espa and Jabba's Palace. Lets see a side of the planet that hasn't been shown before.

I do agree with the "far more interesting" planets to explore. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing Kashyyyk or Felucia again.

I think it would be interesting if the Skywalker children (assuming they are the new heroes) are drawn to the planet due to its prominent connection to the Force.

Think about it: Anakin was, in a way, the physical embodiment of the Force. He was conceived through the midi-chlorians via Darth Plaguise's experiments, and was born on Tatooine. Does it not make sense that that sort of event to take place would create a naturally powerful well of Force energy on the planet? Perhaps that could be a way the new villains get introduced, and the new young Jedi are sent to investigate.

Then again, thats just me shooting off ideas and cool theories. Whatever they do, I'm excited to see Tatooine post-Empire. It'll be interesting to see if it becomes a Republic planet, and slavery gets banned ad whatnot. It may not be the hive of scum and villainy it always has been.

I don't think the appearance of Tatooine is enough to say that much about the movie so far; the planet did, after all, appear in all six OT and PT movies (and in the CW movie) and it seems like a natural inclusion to tie things together.

Agreed. I hope Episode VII doesn't stray over the line into Star Trek: Into Darkness territory, where instead of being a case of "We adhered to the conventions you'd expect from seeing the older movies," it becomes a case of "We wanted to throw your fanboys some bones while we kind of ignored what had already been done before."

For me it would definitely depend on how it's done. I feel more and more people keep trying to bring things back to Tatooine because 'hey look, we're on Tatooine, it's cool!" where Tatooine was basically made with the intention of being a desolate planet in the middle of nowhere that few people would go to.

If they just use Tatooine as a starting point I have no issues with. Bring the fans back with something warm and familiar. Start the mystery there. Maybe have Luke searching for something in the ruins of Obi Wan's Hut? Some long lost piece of Jedi lore? There can be a lot of thematic good to be had in returning to the beginning for the start of a new journey. So long as it is just that, and it is done well.
