Ultron Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 I'm afraid you might be disappointed then, as the description on the YouTube video reads as follows: Star Wars™ Battlefront™ is the ultimate Star Wars battle experience, brought to life by the creators of Battlefield. Fight in epic Star Wars battles on iconic planets and rise through the ranks playing as the heroic Rebellion or the evil galactic Empire. It definitely seems to me like this game will be OT focused. Just maybe it will include PT stuff as well, but from that description and Disney's shifting focus toward the OT era, I would not be surprised if the game is just OT. That'd honestly be really disappointing. Some of the best locations from BF2 were from the prequel. No to mention the prequel jedi/sith were much more fun to play as. Quote

No to mention the prequel jedi/sith were much more fun to play as. I get the impression that Dice's BF 3 will be much more focused on grunts and soldiers than Jedi/Sith. They are basically using the Battlefield engine in the Star Wars universe. And so far the only images we have seen have been OT. That doesn't necessarily mean anything however. SWBF games traditionally run the gamut of settings. The prior 2 games were a bit more PT focused so I could easily see this one being much more OT or beyond focused. Quote
Mr Man Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Well that's disappointing. The PT / CW had much more interesting battles, locations, planets, troops, combat experience etc. OT had Ground Hoth and Space Endor. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Mr Man, if you're talking about the old games, there were quite a few other OT locations. Death Star, Tatooine, Cloud City. But this is a new game anyway, not just an updated copy of the old one. I'm sure they will include plenty of nice locations. They can still use planets from the PT even if you play as Rebels/Imperials anyway. The old games did that. Quote

Keep in mind that this game is still reasonably early in development, and we have no idea what sort of battles or setting we may see from the ST. Ep VII and beyond. Figure it's expected release will in some ways coincide with the next movie, so I would not be surprised to see it included. But of course they cannot show us anything from that as of yet. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Oddly enough, while I'm an OT fan, I wouldn't be that happy if PT locations and factions were excluded. They were still fun to play, even if I don't really like their source. And I agree that most of the more fun and intriguing Battlefront II locations were PT locations, even if some of them weren't very well balanced (Looking at you, Kamino.). That being said, if they have to cut it down to just OT grunts to make a better shooter, I'm not going to complain. (Although being an OT fan, I'm sure it upsets me less than it would some other fans.) They can always release new features and factions as DLC later. Quote

The Tantive IV and DS are good, but the only battles in the OT that would make anybody 'wow' are Hoth and Endor. I think it may be due to marketing though, with Episode VII and Rebels coming up, the OT slant is good advertising, but there hasn't been a glimpse of any PT / CW stuff in the footage so far, not even in the offices. The treehouses aren't as much of an extra dimension as they are mediocre hideouts or sniping positions, it's really hard to see through the foliage even after you turn on the red indicators above the enemies, the Ewoks are annoying, and the AT-STs don't dominate enough and can't get around enough to make them fun. The scale of Endor however does have massive potential, the forest, bunker and the Space map (I do hope we have space) would be fantastic in the new game. Quote

A big map with lots of features that aren't very interesting is just a setting for a rather boring battle that takes longer than it should when the majority of the combatants have to walk or run from place to place. General Magma Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 (edited) Maybe there could be a part of Endor where there are two treehouses opposing one another, with a large Ewok bridge hanging above the ground connecting the two treehouses - a bridge that can be taken down so the entirety of all the players on the bridge ends up falling down to their deaths... something like that might be a nice feature. Extra little things like that for the maps would surely have potential to be good additions - in a way that it can't be done every other second though, to avoid the possibility of overusing those things. Interactive features (and thus an interactive environment) would make it feel more.. well, yeah, interactive, as opposed to not being able to destroy any buildings or being unable to make bridges collapse. Things like the treehouse bridge should lead to important and/or useful things in-game (like a command post), though, otherwise it will probably just end up being ignored. I'm also hoping for The Old Republic in a Battlefront game - one day, perhaps... Edited June 11, 2014 by General Magma Quote

Brickdoctor Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Yeah, bridges over insta-killing terrain below are always fun. Like when one of your friends is no fun and wants to play with Invincibility turned on, so you go to Kamino, play as the Republic, get Obi-Wan, and do nothing but stalk him around the map Force Pushing him into the ocean. Mr Man Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I wish they had had Bespin Platforms in BFII. I loved sending the heroes catapulting off using mines. I got the BFI conversion pack for II but it's not the same. Quote
simonjedi Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 (edited) While I can't imagine that there won't eventually be any prequel stuff in the game, it's just wont be interesting for this promo for them to say " Yeah we looked at some computers and a bunch of green screens to design the next gen version of geonosis." Well they could show translating the film quality models to game quality ones. Besides the PT had physical props, the Droid Control Ship, or the AT-TE, and most of the stuff from TPM. Quote
Fives Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 More casting announcements! http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/notyetamovie/news/?a=103131 Complete unknowns, so there is nothing to compare them to, which I think is good. Like Kathleen Kennedy said in her statement, they really are keeping true to the tradition of casting newbies. Also, I find the fact that Pip Anderson is known for his parkour skills could perhaps mean he'll be a warrior akin to Maul. Just an idea. And on a slightly related note, I was watching the Zygerria arc from The Clone Wars and realized that light-whips have never appeared in the films. I'd really love to see how they'd handle a light-whip fight scene with real actors and stunts. It could be a really great opportunity for an awesome fight. Quote
Fives Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 I find it funny how this thread has fizzled, what with Episode 7 on its way and all. Speaking of, the website Badass Digest has posted some interesting supposed plot details for the new film, as well as a separate piece on details about John Boyega's character. Plot details: http://badassdigest.com/2014/07/20/exclusive-star-wars-episode-vii-plot-details-revealed/ Boyega details: http://badassdigest.com/2014/07/20/star-wars-episode-vii-follow-up-john-boyegas-character-is/ Now, there is obviously no confirmation on this info, but a lot of it falls in line with most of the rumours we've heard so far about the story, particularly about Luke's role. If you don't want to risk spoilers, don't click the links. Quote
Praiter Yed Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 (edited) I also read those articles and I think that despite sounding surprisingly cool the plot details are probably just a fake rumour created by JJ Abrams to put us off the scent . Anyway, why would Luke's hand and lightsabre be floating in space? Vader's arm & Lightsabre makes more sense. EDIT: removed spoilers now that this is being openly discussed. Edited July 23, 2014 by Praiter Yed Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 But instead of a spaceship zooming into frame we see... a hand! A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber. [...] Anyway, Han and Chewie recognize the light saber as Luke's, and they say they haven't seen their friend in thirty years, since the events of Return of the Jedi. Every single groundbreaking, classic, beloved EU novel from a thirty year period of the storyline instantly contradicted. I know it's not canon anymore, but still... Aside from that, major plotline of the Thrawn Trilogy ruined because Luuke Skywalker can't be created.Yes, I know I'm being the annoying fanboy who's clinging to the past publications. Quote
Fives Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I'm excited, but unlike many, I never really read most of the EU books and comics, so the exclusion of the stories doesn't phase me that much. The only issue is that a hand and lightsaber would disintegrate within the atmosphere during the fall. Thats the only real reason that points toward this being fake. However, it does support rumours that Han has a larger role, and that he is on the search for Luke, as well as how Boyega and Ridley were playing important roles. Quote

I would hardly call every EU novel "groundbreaking" or "classic". Not by a long shot. The EU had a lot of hits and a lot of misses, but it will be fantastic to have one cohesive canon moving forward. I love feeding off fanrage, I hated the fact that the new film might have to tie itself into knots trying to work round a bunch of books that (as good as they are) are less successful than AOTC.
