Ultron Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 The new astromech looks impossibly dumb in my opinion. You're free to have an opinion, but I don't see how it's any worse than a doorstopper on wheels or a walking trashcan. A central wheel might be the most efficient way to navigate the deserts of tatooine or wherever it was. R2D2 and C3PO were impossibly slow everytime they were there. Just give it a chance. I'm sure a lot of thought went into the design other than what will sell with the kids. Quote
JimBee Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 It's definitely got that JJ Abrams vibe - lots of swooping shots and dramatically lit sets - check out the stormie shot. I hope it's not too similar to the last two Star Trek movies in that sense. Quote

It's logical, but that doesn't mean it doesn't look silly. For the most part droids in Star Wars have been clunky and slow. This astromech droid looks a beach ball being blown away in the wind. It doesn't really fit the aesthetic, compared to pretty much everything else in the trailer that represents a natural evolution of technology in the OT. You can immediately recognize the X-Wings, the Falcon, and Stormtroopers, but compared to R2 that droid just looks bizarre. Quote
Jedi-Bendu Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Great, now I'll have that stuck in the back of my head when I see the movie! -Sci oops.....sorry!! Well, it's just a rumor....and there are more (and they're all different; this was the one I don't like) Regarding the beachball droid: The dome looks fantastic. Simple, great colors, OT style. Regarding the claymore saber wielding villain: A while ago a pic showing him from the front surfaced. Many said it was fan-made, but I think it's the real deal now. Click at your own risk! Quote
Mr Man Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 It's not so much the shape of the lightsabre that bothers me, it's the fact it looks like fire and makes a different noise. The only lightsabre that should be that different should be the Darksabre. Quote

The only lightsabre that should be that different should be the Darksabre. The ONLY one? It could be an ancient blade even older than the darksaber. It could be some experimental weapon cobbled together by a fanboy of the Sith who doesn't really know what he's doing. Some speculate the "blades" on the hilt are exhaust ports, because it's so unstable (hence the fiery blade). I hope it's the "exhaust ports" thing, I like that idea better than the "mini-blades" one; in any case, ridiculous as it may seem, it did look neat in the teaser and may have a good explanation in the film. Beach ball droid undoubtedly has more functionality hidden in his rolling shell, just as R2 had all those gizmos hidden in his body. Cute and a little silly, but so was the Mouse Droid, and he SOUNDS great. Many of the droids at the Droid Purchase scene and rolling around the Lars Homestead were fairly silly, too. I don't get why so many people think the shot of Boyega is so comical. Dude just woke up from a crash landing. If we saw another angle, we'd probably see the wreck nearby. He's panicked, unsure where he is or where he should go. Quote

Only one, as in all ancient sabres (the Darksabre the only canon one). I doubt it is older due to it resembling a modern one except the laserhilt. It could be a DIY one, but the effects are still a bit weird. Quote
Venkefedo Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 We've only seen one canon ancient saber; this could EASILY be another ancient one. The effects look weird intentionally; its blade doesn't sound or look like a normal saber blade, just as the darksaber blade looks and sounds different. Just because we've only seen one darksaber doesn't mean we can NEVER see more, or other ancient blades, or other new blades. Star Wars may have plateaued to a degree technologically, but that doesn't mean they're completely stagnant. Quote
Mr Man Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 It could be an ancient sabre, I just said it is more likely not to be, it still resembles the modern ones more than the Darksabre. Quote
FinalFeature Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I just made the Star Wars The Force Awakens trailer. Took a little over 22 hours to make. I really am looking forward to this movie and also for that new lightsaber piece to be made in LEGO. Quote
Steph 104th Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I don't know why some people don't like the new astromech, when taking everything into context remember that we have seen 30 years of innovation since the last time we saw the universe. So things like the droid are just an upgrade, its made for areas difficult substrate to cross over, like Tatooine's landscape. Quote
Sir Brickalot Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Great trailer FinalFeature! Like what you did with the ball astromech Quote
1974 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 And ... The George Lucas Special Edition! Quote
TWP Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 And ... The George Lucas Special Edition! Wow! that one is just... hilarious! Quote
CMP Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 That was hysterical. I almost fell down laughing when the pilot dodged the blaster bolt. Quote
TWP Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Hey guys, I wondered why this has not been posted before, but Disney seems to have put an other trailer on their own youtube! You can check it out here. This gives an entirely different view on the movie of what I would have expected from the other trailer ;) Quote
KopakaFan116 Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I saw it on the morning of the 28th... That's when it first debuted on the internet. Quote
FinalFeature Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Great trailer FinalFeature! Like what you did with the ball astromech Thanks! Quote
Aethersprite Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 And ... The George Lucas Special Edition! A friend showed that one to me. I nearly died when Anakin's Force ghost appeared! The six-bladed lightsaber and the swarm of TIEs got me as well. Hilarious. Quote
Mr Man Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 And ... The George Lucas Special Edition! , that made my day. Quote
montgocloud Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Has anyone touched on how the title hints at plot points that could cause the prequels to make more sense? So, according to the prequels, Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader is space Jesus and brings "balance to the Force" when he kills the Emperor. That never made much sense considering all of the other Sith that appeared after ROTJ in the EU. The Force Awakens could refer to how, after balance is brought, there is a resurgence in the Force and more Sith Lords and Jedi Knights emerge. Just my thoughts. Also, is that Millennium Falcon a model or CGI? Or a model enhanced with CGI? Quote
Steph 104th Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Also, is that Millennium Falcon a model or CGI? Or a model enhanced with CGI? They built out a full scale model for some scenes but I'm not sure if they used a small one or CGI, but this movie is going to be a Banta load of CGI so I won't be suprised if that how they did it. The way it soars around in the Tatooine atmosphere looks very real but from that alone it just seams to be CGI rather than a model. Quote

Don't call it "Tatooine atmosphere" until we're certain it is Tatooine. We haven't seen twin suns, we haven't seen Mos Eisley, we haven't seen the Lars Homestead or Jawas or Tusken Raiders, so for all we know it's an entirely different desert world, selected to provide the nostalgia for Tatooine without throwing the same exact planet in yet another movie.
