I'm assuming as it's a response to my comment I'm one of those to be considered emotionally fragile? Really? And asking people not to hate you, repeatedly, is considered emotionally secure?

I really don't care whether you hate Disney or not. I don't care what the possible reasons for it are either. There was nothing emotional about my response at all.

Time will tell whether you have anything to add to the conversation... if you just continue with 'I hate Disney' then it'll get old very fast.

I'm not interested in dragging this on any further so I'll just ignore any future 'it's crap because it's Disney' comments but I'll also happily engage in conversation with you if you do happen to venture from the mantra.

I think lashing out at people and name calling just because they disagree with your opinion is a great example of being emotionally fragile. I would think "all your many years of foruming" would have clued you into the fact that isn't how adults conduct themselves.

This is an adult discussion site and it's also not a great idea to bring up topics that you don't actually want to discuss. Please take your hate elsewhere.

Anyway, anyone else keeping up with spoilers?

I already was ready to move on, YOU all kept bringing it back up because you do not accept someone who dose not share your views.

Now please, show me this maturity you are toting about so much.

Now for some on-topic Star Wars disscussion:

In your opinion, did Han shoot first? Or did he mearly respond to Greedos failed shot?

Posted

Of course Han shot first. Greedo's shot wasn't added until much later.

Get hold of the Despecialised Editions of the OT as they're Bluray quality rips of the theatrical releases.

I don't care for bluray.

Technically, in several of the ANH editions, greedo shot first, so it could be argued that Han was just reflex shooting.

This is just like the RIRFIB debate in transfandom, and no one has come up with a satisfying conclusion.

Posted (edited)

The Despecialised Editions are just the theatrical releases in the best quality available.

In the original theatrical release Han made the shot first and killed Greedo. Lucas then made the amendment to make it a 'self defence' shot for later DVD releases.

Some of the other amendments such as Jabba being in Mos Eisley, while absolutely terrible, are more forgivable as he was originally meant to be there but Lucas couldn't make it work at the time but adding Greedo's shot was just superfluous rubbish to soften Han's character.

I like him as someone who will happily kill for his own survival so I'm standing by the theatrical releases.

Ohh! Despecialised? I have to watch those. I remember the quiet disgust in the room when we saw the "remastered" ending scenes of Return of the Jedi as we marathon watched Star Wars at my friends house.

Oh, and Toasalvus, please quit arguing. It is easy, you just stop. Everyone else: Leave him be. We don't need a flame war (Cos flip, it must be serious if I am posting in a Star Wars thread!)

They're a bit of a pain to get hold of them... or they used to be as they were only shared on a private torrent tracker. I'm not even sure I can remember where I got mine but they were a real labour of love for a fan group who wanted to put the original releases out at a quality to rival the blu rays available of the butchered versions.

I can always try and help share them to those that would like them. They're around 7GB each film though.

Ok, thank you for being nice about it.

I will never understand the hatred of Disney in this respect. With Rebels they have produced a cartoon with the right noises, visuals and - dare I say - spirit that I remember from growing up with Star Wars. A lot of junk from the EU lacked any of this in lieu of hackneyed sci-fi tropes which helped nobody. It is, of course, a matter of taste. But I feel people responding as if Disney have eradicated every bit of Star Wars they love from the universe is rather exaggerated.

I agree, nothing will ever change the fact that all the artwork related to Star Wars, be it OT, PT, CW or EU will always be there, if the current brand owner decided he doesn’t care about them it doesn’t delete them from existence. I still enjoy watching the original Clone Wars cartoon very much even though it was rtconed by the newer The Clone Wars animated series, if Filoni decided he wanted to make his own version of Clone Wars then why should that make me angry at Lucasfilm? I can still watch the one I prefer.

The EU is indeed a big heap of inconsistent wild imagination, it’s made by hundreds if not thousands of fans, each has his own vision and opinion on what Star Wars should be, so how can this mess of a storyline written by many individuals be considered canon in any way?

If I wrote a story about Darth Kiwi the ultimate villain of the Shenanigans Wars that happened 12000000 BBY, does this obligates all other SW fans to consider it canon?

Oh, and Greedo shot first; everyone knows that.

Greedo didn't shoot first, he never shot at all in MY version of star wars, he intended to take Han in alive, Han killed him and is a smuggler and murderer. also everyone knows that the Shenanigan Wars were fought between Darth Pineapple, and Jedi Master Ham, on the planet of Pizza Hutta, it says so in the book I wrote :classic:

To be fair, that's kind of all Star Wars has been doing for the past decade. Selling toys.

And we love them for that, because we love our toys so much, don’t we? That’s what brought us all here in the first place. I just don’t like it when they do that to my Shenanigans original vision, that part of EU is sacred to many fans, but I’m sure someday those real fans would look for the non-GallardoLU “despecialized” version.

Now Ultron, is that a confirmed news about the trailer? I would think it’s still too early for that… perhaps it would be another short teaser trailer that shows a little bit more details, I wouldn’t want anything spoilery.

Lots of news places are reporting it, so I would assume so. No info on how much the trailer will contain though.

hold on now, the new specialized version is true to my original vision, the one that should have came out but technology wasn't caught up yet. but in all seriousness I just hunted down an original VHS tape of ANH, before that was even added to the title  and I do look forward to Disney releasing an original theatrical blueray of the OT films some day (was that confirmed, or just a rumor I haven't followed Disney announcements well)

Posted

Wow, the VHS version will always be the “original” version for me since I never saw the OT in theater, awesome find man. I think the bluray unaltered OT was confirmed, I knew about it on starwars.com if I remember correctly.

Posted

I've got VHS of the original three somewhere in my parents I think. The despecialised editions are outstanding in their quality of the original theatricals and there was a 6 disc DVD set a few years ago where the bonus disc for each film was the theatrical release.

I think I also had laserdisc rips of them at one point.

Reading through the recent comments on this topic, about the now defunct, but still existing old EU of Star Wars, can be imagined by the long fans of Star Wars, and doubt has done so since the creation of Star Wars since 76/77. There is just something about the entire Star Wars universe, no matter if the Legends EU or just the movies, that it brings the millions of fans together, and create a lot of things that can be shared of each indiviual own ideas of stories to coincide with the movies or the old or new EU.

Posted

Now that’s the spirit, I totally agree and I always remind myself of this point of view whenever things gets too complicated.

Robianco: so the unaltered trilogy on the laser discs are different from the ones that came with the 6 DVD pack? I have the old laser discs, but if the DVD ones are better then I’ll search for them indeed, until the bluray ones are actually released. I’d also like to see a VHS rip, you know, in TV aspect ratio, won’t be the best quality but would definitely be very nostalgic.

No part of the old series was replaced or retconed by the newer one, it can still be watched as one.
