to razzer, no you do not need a ticket to get into the lego store. its in downtown disney, which is basically an out door mall of sorts. i go there all the time with my gf, and its just like going to a strip mall.

The sets look great, but I can not believe TLG is using the 4+ palm tree!?:pir-sick:

Besides that, I'm really pleased about the way these look! Hopefully we will get some more modular things in the future.

How and where did you get the new pirate sets? They are not supposed to be released until 2009.

They are released at Legoland in Carlsbad and the Imagination Center in Orlando. I bought the ship and the fort on Saturday.

Man, pictures just keep coming! And they are really making me really drool with excitement.... :pir-oh:

For the most part, the sets seem very well designed. The modular fort, while expensive, is beautiful, and I love that it is modular and doesn't have an abundance of regular yellow - a color that I think looks a bit cheesy when used too much. :pir-wink:

The ship is very classicly built and has some great new parts. :pir-sweet: I'm a bit disappointed that it only includes 3 cannons, but I think it will be easy to fix the problem - just move the cannon on the stern and take the unrealisticly carried cannon from loot island, and you can fill up the two other spots with ease. I don't like that the middle of the ship seems a bit empty, as opposed to classic pirate ships, but I love that the color scheme is very subduded and realistic.

Overall, I'm loving these kits, and I'm quickly seeing that next year will be expensive as usual - especially since I may attempt to get one $100 dollar sets (I basically never do that). Good think that I'll probably be getting my first real job after I turn 16 in January - should provide a good source of cash. :pir-wink:

BTW, I share everyone else's hate of the <insert that tiresome argument> tree mold being used in the fort, but I'm relieved that that they at least used individual leaves. Imagine if they had brought this awful piece into production again:

Hi there everybody,

Thanks for all those great pictures...... But can somebody make a close up from the Governour of the fort (fron and back of the torso)???

Already many thanks!!

Cheers,

Jeroen

Sorry if it's a bit blurry, was having a hard time getting the camera I had on hand to focus. The back just features buttons and lines resembling the tail of his coat.

Can I say that this thread has turned into something resembling mass hysteria ?

I guess I'm not way off with that description :pir_laugh2:

I understand the excitement about new sets, but I guess I'm more a "pick up sets on sale" type of guy.

:imperialguard_commander1:

The sets look great though, I must say. A style going though the complete line-up.

The officer and soldiers just keep looking better and better. Does anyone who went to pick up the sets at the Imagination Center see the Impulses out?

I never knew that the fortress was actually modular. I love it even more since its modular and we can expand by buying more sets or looking forward to other designs which could be added into it. I am sure I will collect pirates, and make it as one of my core themes next year. Could anyone mind if I used these sea rats to fight against castle warfare? :pir_laugh2:

Can't wait for it, hope you make some closeup pictures :pir-sweet:

The review is done....you'll have to have access to the Reviewer's Academy to see it though. :pir-classic:

Wow, modular fortress! What an excuse to make us buy more than one. :pir_laugh2:

Heh, exactly - and it's a darn good plan, as I'm considering at least two, maybe even three! And then I will leave one intact and build more segments with the other two - and all will be grand! (Plus, with 3 extra epaulettes of each color to mess around with...>=D)

Also, am I the only one who is saddened that the Shakos are printed? I'm thinking I might have to invest in some Brasso for this - I'd like it if some sets came with regular black ones, and the printed ones were for "special" troops, like riflemen etc. - but I'll probably keep about 5 printed for special troops myself, so...it all evens out! =P

*waits for Shako price to fall dramatically*

Okay, I generally don't check in on New Set releases becuase I find the conversations long and useless (no offence to all you posters in this thread). I would like, however, to say that I am simply so happy that they are re-releasing the canon in the new colors. I can finally use it in MOC's again, without it looking wierd.

So I guess someone's already mentioned it, but seriously ... I can't say I'm a fan of the new palm trees (especially the base)--it reminds me greatly of MEGABLOKS ... and I loathe the MEGABLOKS ... *shudders* Also, even the color palette tones remind me more of MBs than LEGO ... they seem duller in several instances, which I find to be a characteristic of MBs when I'm sorting out used lots.

And, in the fort set ... do the soldiers not come with packs? That's just awful. Though the individual impulse set does come with one correct?

Maybe I'm just nostalgic, but a couple of the changes do not appear to have been for the better--even if it is great to get the line back :)

By the way, guys, I have to take the blame for the Pirate sets coming out in the US first. I'm one of the biggest LEGO Pirate fans ever, I was in Florida...it was just fate. I'm really sorry, but at the same time, I just can't get over how awesome this is. :pir-tongue:

A couple of points I hadn't seen addressed:

The "new" palm tree base has been around for some time. I haven't held one from the fort myself, but it seems to be the same as the one introduced for the Jungle Adventurers sets back in '99. Wasn't a huge fan of it then, and I'm still not, but hey, Pirates are back...

The Impulse sets were availible at the LEGO store. I did not see them the first day, but I bought one of each when I went back the next day and I saw them on Sunday as well.

I'm beginning to think the new Pirate base set was never there--I never saw it personally, it's not on any of the promotional material, and no one seems to have bought it.

Presumably, painting the new LEGO shakos will be easier and cheaper than buying classic black ones or trying to produce new ones, as had been suggested before the new Pirate images started showing up.

What was the going rate for blue epaulets? Because each of the soldier sets I got had an extra one...six for the price of three!

The Loot Island base isn't as bad as it looks. I'd like to get a second base at some point and make a larger island--plus you can put it on top of a blue base plate.

I need lots and lots of blue base plates to make a Pirate display.

This is the first time a LEGO Pirate minifigure line hasn't had at least one torso from the classic 1989 line.

Will we see a Pirate chess set in the future?

At last, it is possible to have more Imperial Guard troopers than officers. The officers are only in two sets, and the Impulse set makes for an easy army builder. I'll be buying lots of these.

The new pics are looking good, but they don't look like they are worth the price (especially if the u.s. prices are the cheapest, as usual).

I really hope I can get the parts and minifigs I want from BL or something. Ship hull looks interesting and looks well suited for moccing. To buy the entire sets for just a few nice parts I want isn't in my budget to do (like I would want the lattice windows, minifigs and hull of the ship, but not the sails and masts etc., so it would be way to expensive for me, and it is expensive enough as it is).

I wish they'd bring out a minifig pack (or 2) with all the minifigs (so I wouldn't have to buy overpriced minifigs from parted-out sets) and some accesories.

But the palm tree isn't new (I allready mentioned it a few months back when the first preliminary pics where out), they came out in 1998 or something with the adventurers, but where also used with 4+ pirates (and they look hideous).

Well firstly I must say its really nice to see the Pirates theme back. Of the old themes no longer produced it was the only one I really missed. The modular design of the new sets, or at least the fort, is also an improvement and opens alot of possibilities in the future. I feel especially happy for the huge Pirate fans on EB, they really deserve the return of this theme for their loyalty and interest.

Nice to see the crocodiles colour is now a bit more realistic. I never really fancied the green crocs, looked like the fell into paint. This ones a bit too dark but anyway there is no point nit picking too much :)

The flag is upside down on the fort. :pir-sceptic:

Yes, it is like as if my mom put together this set.
