I play trumpet, trombone, baritone/euphonium, tuba, and mellophone/French horn. I was in band from 5th grade until my 4th year of college so I picked up a lot of different instruments. I have played in high school stadiums all over my state for football and in Texas, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arizona in my college marching band. It was a great time, sometimes I even miss it.

WOW

I am just in a band that cover popular American country and western music.

 I play the drums and piano as well!

I really enjoy recording myself playing piano, and then recording drums on top.

Nice idea for a topic!

I wish I had the equipent.

I play keyboard/piano/synthesizer (The same thing really, but in variations - acoustic or electronic, etc.), and I sing. I'm considering picking up Guitar or Bass, but I don't know...=P

My playing is heavily influenced by modern Power Metal (and in many cases Progressive too - I can do a mean Tom Sawyer ^.~), Heavy Metal, and Classic Rock. This leads to a rather interesting style...When I learn to play songs I almost never attempt to learn the actual keyboard parts, as the guitar/bass parts are usually far more enjoyable, especially since it's technically not the same as what they play - it's a completely different instrument! =P

Notable achievements? Sure...In order:

-Learned the entire guitar part, sans solo, to "The Trooper" by Iron Maiden

-Learned the synth solo in "Tom Sawyer" by Rush

-Learned the guitar riff to "Snow (Hey Oh)" by Red Hot Chili Peppers

-Learned the first half of "Arpeggios From Hell" by Yngwie Malmsteen (=P)

-Learned the synth solo and guitar solo to "Feels Like The First Time" by Foreigner

-Learned the first part of the opening solo to "The Cage" by Sonata Arctica (Easily the absolute hardest to play synth solo I've ever seen so far - holy CRAP. =P)

-Finally, learned the basslines (in the same day, mind) to "Hysteria" by Muse and "Panic Attack" by Dream Theater.

Yeah...uh...with that ego-inflation over, I'm pretty much done except for one more thing - I currently have an experimental power/prog/techno band in the works with some friends, though currently we're planning to split into two seperate bands with the same members...'twill be interesting, that's for sure! =P

Neat idea for a thread. I think there was one about bands, but I hadn't seen anything about what instruments people play, I'm sure that the creativity on EB spills over into the musical realm.

I play electric bass, and some upright bass.

I also like to assemble and modify electric basses as a hobby. I don't "build" my own parts from scratch, but I've built/assembled 5 or so instruments and repaired and modified countless other basses and guitars for myself and my friends.

Notable achievements...

I'm not a great musician, just a fairly solid player somewhere between amateur and semi-pro. Thus, there's not much that I've achieved on my own. However about two years ago, without knowing much about the style of music, I joined a country band ( www.janesvillecountry.com) with some more experienced musicians than myself. It's been a great learning experience and has given me some pretty neat opportunities to play some great gigs, including Chicago Country Music fest, and being an opening act for Randy Travis and Trace Adkins.

some peoples plays a lot of instrument^^ I don't play any instrument...well, the ex-boyfriend of my sister teached me the basic of drums, but that's all, and that was 8 years ago, and I'm very bad with instruments, the "noises" that come out it when I try to use it are .. strange!

I bought a (cheap Squier) guitar a year ago, full of the thought that I was going to play it with ease. Yeah, rrright. Well, I try to practise twice or more a week and I am getting better and better, not that I'm good. It's a bit hard to play very often with it, with school is so hard now and, oh yes, LEGO! Oh, well. I'll see what the future brings.

I've been playing bass since 1990 (but I took some breaks / wasted lots of time).

I still own my second bass, an Ibanez SR 885 (laser blue) which I bought in 1992; then, in 2006, I added a Yamaha RBX 775 (Flat silver) and my main bass (best one I ever played): an ESP LTD F-255 (black).

I still own my old Fender amp (BXR Bass 300C) but mostly play through my faithful Korg A5B and some headphones.

Hey, what a neat idea for a thread! :pir-sweet:

I play a number of instruments. I guess you could say my main instrument is singing, I do a lot of that and have just recently been selected for the NZ Secondary Schools Choir, which is pretty cool. I also play the piano, I just sat my Grade 6 exam (a week after my Grade 6 theory too), so hopefully I'll get the results soon. I've played the violin for a long time, and have just recently taken up playing the viola in a Wellington orchestra. I also play in a Pipe Band, which is a lot of fun. I used to play the pipes, but I soon learned that I was destined to be a tenor drummer, and I have recently been training with the City of Wellington Pipe Band. I also used to play the Cello, but I thought that keeping that up would be a bit much. I also really enjoy composing, when I can find the time. :pir_laugh2:

Yeah, I do quite a bit of music now that I think about it. :pir-grin:

Good topic, well, almost my whole life revolves around music and instruments

Well, here it goes...

in grade three was when I started my musical journey! I started playing the cello. at the end of year 4 (like december) because I was renting the school cello ther policy was that after 2 years of renting you have to buy a what ever you were playing. But we couldnt afford (which later I found was a good thing :pir-classic: ) it so they had a double bass which no one wanted :pir-wub: . So I started to play that because it was..well, not quite the same theory wise but it was fairly simlilar in some ways. Also at the start of year 5 I started playing the clarinet. when it came to about 1/4 through year 6 the school had a spare tenor sax(which I wanted to start from year 2) so I took up that as well as DB and clarinet. So I played those three instruments through year 6 and 7.

(1/2 through my story :pir-tongue: ) Okay well then I got a schollorship to one of those fancy private schools for music. But once I got to year 8 my mum made me drop bass (which was my preferred instrument :pir-hmpf_bad: along with sax) So in year 8 I only played TS and clarinet. now that it is at the end of year 9 I still play Tenor sax and clarinet (although I only play clarinet when I have to for school) and I love my sax :pir-wub: I am saving up and I recently I think, got a job so I'm saving up for a bass guitar because DB is too expensive and big and my mom said that she'll never take it around if I get one :pir-hmpf_bad: So im getting a bass!

BTW I just did my grade 5/8 sax exam  should get my results back soon!!!!

So that is my musical journey so far! Hope you enjoyed :pir-sweet:

Ah, musical gear, an obsession almost as dangerous as LEGO. I'm not generally a fan of design asthetic of most Ibanez, Yamaha, and LTD gear, but all those companies make very good quality products.

I'm a bit mad for bass guitar gear. You can see my gear list here: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/member.php?u=18598

GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) is a very serious condition.... :pir-tongue:
