blueandwhite Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 (edited) I am somewhat confused by people calling this type of piece <insert that tiresome argument> or blocky and in the next breath praising old classic castle sets that were chuck full of wall pieces. I think many people have glorified the old sets in their minds eye. Go back and rebuild some of those classics that you love and then build the Kings castle siege. The new sets have more brick not less than the old. I also like to use brick instead of POOPs. However, I think TLC should be given credit where it is due. The new sets are easily as detailed and as good as the older sets. Now back on topic. The new piece will be stable enough. It is only 5 high and 4 wide. Being smaller it will be much easier to add brick around and even in front of this piece to disguise it. This will make it much more versatile. I find it to be a vast improvement on the old castle wall piece. The biggest difference will be the lack of the rearward protrusion. This "shelf" while sometimes useful was also difficult to hide when doing interiors to your buildings. I am looking forward to this in grey, brown, and black. Just because a person is nostalgic for some of the older castle/pirate sets doesn't mean that they love any and all aspects of the line. Given a choice, most builders would probably prefer bricks over a pre-fab piece. That being said, brick-built walls will cost more making pre-fab walls the obvious choice for designers. What many people like about the older sets is the well thought-out designs. Included with the pre-fab walls and hull pieces were many plates (including the now almost unheard of 1x1 plate) and small bricks. It was this ideal combination of pre-fab elements and brick-built parts that was so popular. Compare the masts LEGO now uses with the masts on the old pirate ships. Which ones do you prefer? When you suggest that people glorified the older sets aren't you really suggesting that some people can't see straight because of nostalgia. I'm sorry but I humbly disagree. We all have our preferences and personal favourites. I appreciate you prefer the newer Castle sets. Personally, my favourite sets were produced in the late 80s/early 90s. It's simply a matter of taste. Edited November 16, 2008 by blueandwhite Quote
MoonCheese Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 That wall piece seems very similar to the wall pieces in my old Coko (Chinese Lego clone, I think) castle from maybe 1993. Quote
