I honestly thought that Insectoids was far more interesting as a theme than UFO ever was. That was mainly because while many of the UFO sets looked very similar to each other, the Insectoid kits had very unique and different designs. I'd rather have a bunch of bug inspired vehicles and ships than a lot of saucer shaped spaceships that all use the same huge curved saucer plates as their main bulk.

I agree that the figures of UFO were awesome, however. But I think I like the Insectoid figures just as much. :sweet:

I'll admit that UFO did generally only have two or three base concepts as designs- x-wing fighter and saucer. But the models themselves were still really detailed and I enjoyed them immensely.

In terms of minifigs I thought Insectoids was rather weak, actually... like they were trying to copy UFO but just not doing it so well... however I did like the droid.

I actually agree with some of the things you said, but you need to lay off the insults and confrontational attitude if you want anyone to take you seriously.

I don't think you guys realize how obnoxious it is when every time anyone on a toy forum says "I don't really like these, and here's why", instead of being included in the conversation, the following things happen:

1) their ideas are immediately dismissed as "whining" by sycophants who lack the capacity to be critical

2) they are given sarcastic advice to "just don't buy it" or "just buy" some other product they obviously have no interest in

and 3) Someone raises the idea that there is something wrong with the fandom and they are impossible to please because they point out obvious problems

I'm so damn sick of that crap happening on every forum I go to that I don't respond nicely any more. If you are guilty of any of the three irksome comments I've listed, you deserve nothing more than the shortness with which I've expressed my views. But what I said before really is the shortest way to put it: "This new space police sucks, now stop whining because other people don't like it as much as you do." Why should I sugar coat that? All I do in that sentence is give my opinion and ask someone to stop giving insulting advice to anyone with a legit criticism. And for that you guys say I've made the least intelligent post on the internet, and call me rude!

But whatever, I'd be ecstatic if the slightest bit of what I'm saying gets through to you guys, even if you end up thinking I'm some jerk or troll.

Just let people be critical without suggesting they are impossible to please or giving them rude advice. Because if you offer advice, someone might do this:

To those Classic Space people who aren't so happy: If you don't like these, just go back to your collection. default_blink.gif These don't diminish from the beauty of the old theme, so if you don't like these, just don't get them

Wha...Wait, what? Are you serious? Are you telling me that I don't have to buy these new Legos? See, I was under the impression that, if I looked at the pictures, that I was legally obligated to buy these. I didn't really think I could just not buy them. Is that legal? I might have to talk to my lawyer on that one.

But if I don't buy them, don't I have to throw away my collection? I'm pretty sure I saw that somewhere in my contract with Lego...you know, the one you have to sign when you buy their products? See, if I understand correctly, I'm totally screwed: if I do buy these new crappy Legos, I'm out over a hundred bucks, and if not, I have to throw away all my Legos! Are you saying I'm wrong about this?

EDIT: THANK YOU MR. MANDALORIAN!!! OMG I LOVE YOU! **HUGS!!**

I talked to my lawyer and he said I never signed a contract! And he told me I have no obligation to buy anything! You totally saved my life! If it weren't for your helpful, totally non-sarcastic and non-douche-baggy advice, I would have bought all this stuff I didn't like, or lost my whole collection. BUT YOU SAVED ME! THANK YOU SO MUCH! THAT WASN'T UNHELPFUL AT ALL!!!!!!!!!

1) their ideas are immediately dismissed as "whining" by sycophants who lack the capacity to be critical

(...)

I'm so damn sick of that crap happening on every forum I go to that I don't respond nicely any more.

(...)

But what I said before really is the shortest way to put it: "This new space police sucks, now stop whining because other people don't like it as much as you do." Why should I sugar coat that?

Why is it wise to act nicely? Well, common sense aside:

Manners and Serious Topics: Don't be offensive to other members. We like Eurobricks to be a friendly place to discuss LEGO and won't allow posts that are intended to offend or attack.

That quote´s from our member guidelines and concerns us all.

You´re entitled to your opinion. Others´re too.

Regarding your impolite and hubristic arguing and your catchphrase "this new space police sucks"...

It's not about intelligent arguments, it's about common sense. But since you apparently don't have the benefit of that, let me explain the obvious to you.

(...)

1)SPACE police should be about SPACE. A flying car with a big air intake has nothing to do with space.

(...)

2)The flying car and police space ship really clash. They don't look like they belong in the same theme, because the police ship looks spacey and the flying car just looks futuristic. Are you following me? Not exactly rocket science here.

You act like some burning Galaxy Explorer in your living room´s talking to you. Chill out, you´re better off by calling the fire brigade...

SPACE... may be to you what ever it is, but there´re many LEGO fans out there and something like

One man one goal one mission,

One heart one soul just one solution,

One flash of light yeah one god one vision

Queen

simply doesn´t exist!

You can try to define the true nature of whatever for yourself, and of course you´re welcome to discuss what you like and what not

and why and so on here around in a, yes, friendly way indeed, but to speak with The King:

A little less generalization, a little more tolerance please! And yeah, the same applies for everyone here around.

Let´s try to keep the discourse constructive.

Any sign of a release date? Or if they are going to be at a Toy Fair any time soon?

I really like the idea of flying cars and the K9 'bot looks great (Although a little SPD...). This is one of my big themes for 2009.

(dudes, there is a lot of argument going on... It is a childrens toy remember, things are supposed to be Fun :pir-laugh:)

EDIT: Removing unnecessary furtherance of argument to avoid appearance of not wanting to play nice and have fun. :sweet:

There's a fatal flaw in your premise here. You may find some behavior on the internet obnoxious, which is not at all surprising since the internet is full of annoying people, but responding to this behavior with an attitude many times worse completely discredits everything you say. People will never take you seriously on any level, no matter how legit your arguments are, if you adapt such a confrontational attitude. It's a basic law of human relations. Hypocrisy will get you nowhere.

You're not even necessarily wrong, but I'd never want to say I support somebody whom I'd never want to be in the same room with.

This is really just annoying. You're not being witty, you're acting like a damn three year old.

I'm locking this thread until there's news to post since we don't seem to be able to act like adults and I don't have the time to play pre-school teacher. :hmpf_bad:

This thread is for news. Take your disagreements elsewhere. Behave in a civil manner with eachother. We are adult LEGO fans and should treat each other with a basic level of respect. If you can't respect a person, at least show some tolerance and walk away if you feel you can't be in a situation with another user. Think about how you would actually respond if you were face to face with the person and try to be nice...

I'll unlock this when official pics come out.

I've discussed this with Mr Hinckley and it's being re-opened. But please no more agressive debating of opinions. If someone says something that is offensive to you then either ignore it or bother the staff. LEGO is supposed to be for fun so if you're getting stressed by it then maybe LEGO isn't for you...

Not much else needs to be said beyond that arrow of common sense.

Right! Back to the fun.

The 2 ships shown so far in the first post are pretty decent to me. Unlike Mars Mission, the canopies are actually enclosed. I hate ANY space theme where a vessel has a canopy, yet it's still "open".

Minifig parts... WANT.

They're both pretty designs, to me.

It might not jive very much with Classic Space, but so what? Just like the classic stuff was well done and created lifelong memories for many an AFoL, these ones certainly have their own charm. They're beefy enough to stand alone as the intended set as well as open to HEAVY customization... and that's a nice balance. The police vessel in particular looks like something more from the Star Wars line, as close as Lego dares shape it anyway. Just color it 2 bland colors, slap and Astromech head on the wing and it'd fit right in.

From a parts-pack / mocer's standpoint... yeah, I like them there too. Can't wait to see if there's more wacky alien heads or limbs down the road.

When I was at LEGOLAND the banner said "Coming This Summer," if I recall correctly. Unfortunately I didn't have a wide enough angle to get this in the picture to prove it, but if you'd be willing to trust me that is what it said before they promptly removed it. :classic:

Agree 100%... well, let's just hope ALL of the Police vehicles are totally enclosed.

TLG has proven itself with the beefy rock-monster arms, so I want some wing-like minifig arms now! And I hope the alien heads are helmets to go on transparent-coloured mini-fig heads, because that would look awesome and provide limitless possibilities!

I know that in New Zealand it's set for a release date in September, along with NXT 2.0. This should be the same for Austalia as well. :classic:

couldn't agree more though i would say i like some customization not heavy.

the more complete a set, the better. but if it's easy to change without having to wrack my brains then it's good. i do have a day job, so it's not like i want to come home and figure out how to moc something too much you know.

i guess for space fans, if you like the police space crafts, then just follow the designs and change the colors or just don't apply the stickers (i assume this theme will be sticker heavy) for your own spacey world. if the black car spaceship is not to your taste, take it apart and use the parts for something else or ebay it.

I have to admit one of the most exciting aspects of this theme is the potential the alien figs have...

Oh yes, if the helmet we've seen already comes in tan then I've got about 5 Doctor Who aliens to make. And another few once we get a sharper look at the Impulse one.

Woah, that Space Police theme is like...nuts. The designs themselves are not bad at all; full and fairly solid.

But the theme itself--way out there. Crazy space trucks, weird alien people on flying motorcycles...strange colors...that theme is almost as crazy as those Time Twister people. Fortunately, they manage to pull it off moderately well. Like Agents, not a bad theme, but probably not something I'll be getting in any case.

I was all hyped when I saw the BIONICLE page, but the guy only took pictures of the BOXES for the two larger sets!

'Bricks'

Awesome, that is just what we needed at this point. Thanks.

I love what I'm seeing with the Galactic Enforcer. Unlike the MM sets, it appears to have roomy cockpits and a lot of interior space. Those blue pods around the sides look great, and it generally looks like a cross between the old Explorien Starship and Deep Freeze Defender. If TLG gets their white brick quality in order this year, it would be a must buy for me.

The smaller SP ship that we saw earlier also looks quite sleek and well designed, now that we have better pictures of it.

I'm not that sold on the bad guy sets though. They seem to use too many specialized pieces and lack any interesting colors for their windscreens, like the one we have already seen.

Man, the Space Police vehicles are just so good... the two smaller ones are REALLY detailed, full, and just so good looking... the construction is amazing.

But dare I say it? I'm actually a little disappointed in the Galactic Enforcer. Sure, it's good, but for some reason the entire frontal canopy seems tacked on to an otherwise whole base. Also the four pods look off.
