hmmmmmm.... Lego goes "Bladerunner", if you're asking me... unless the other sets are true space sets, i'd say this is a mixture of "racers" and a city - police theme in a future Lego city... hmmmm...

i also see a light and sound system on the police ship... hmmmm... the white ship, from what i can see, looks ... nice ... but i'll wait untill i get some better photos... unfortunately, it is yet again "white" that dominates the space theme...

it also reminds me of "time cruisers". it looks like we'll be stuck with sets that basically get their parts from other themes... if you look at the black space car, there's hardly no space part in it... so i'll just wait for some other photos before i really start trashing the theme... :D

and ah yes, my guess is that the alien does not have a face, it's just an organge round brick...

ok so i might be the only one that dosent like what he sees.

Well, I don't love it.

come on people its just a hot-rod with no wheels!

Yeah, if I wanted Lego racers, I would have bought lego racers. And this comes from someone that liked the cars in the Speed Racer sets. It actually reminds me a lot of Bounty Hunter Pursuit which didn't do much for me.

But I'm not as cranky as you sound.

Newer canopies in old trans-blue is good. The mini-fig we've seen is good. It looks as if the space police vehicle will have some good pieces such as the rounds on the front.

But yeah, gone is the epic struggle of SPI and SPII against the Blacktron menance. Instead, Officer Friendly is pulling over an innocent gold courier for expired tags.

Then again, we've only seen initial pictures of one set. Agents surprised me in their final form so maybe the rest of the line up will live up to the greatness of SPI, SPII, and yes, Star Justice (which I loved).

Funny how the more I see it, the more it makes me think of Judge Dredd. Especially the logo.

But I'm loving what we're seeing so far, it is a rather unexpeted direction they're taking if the entire line is based on space cars pursuits...

I thought Blade Runner :classic:, the sets are very well designed and the idea of a "space" hot rod is very appealling. But from the limited information we have, the new space police is not as "spacey" as I expected. This looks more like Future Police when I think about it.

Still the badguy looks awesome.

Keep in mind those of you that don't like the "Racers feel", this is only one set, and I would assume that not all of them will be similar to cars.

The Galactic Mediator will hopefully be more of a ship.

Of course, I could be wrong. :classic:

It has some Torchwood-like badassness about it.

If that helmet comes in tan I think we'll have a Weevil fig all set.

On a related note -

dang it lego ya stealin' my moneys ya money stealers

the emperor has no clothes!

i guess lego took the space police theme literally this time..

he is speeding in space?

maybe he should get a ticket!

as far as the police ship goes it seems to have some huge pieces..

i dont know..

i think im getting too old for these stuff.

i hated the agents

and the power-miners stuff

and now this?

i dont think i can take any more..

thank god for city this year

lego is doing wonders over there!

ok the bad-guy minifig looks cool i will give ya that!

hope to see some better sets

with better SPACE-ships and not just cars in the air!

hey this could be used in a "Back to the future" moc

Why didnt they just call it Futuristic-police?

1. What's wrong with a hot-rod with no wheels? LEGO's never tried it before, and it looks great.

2. He's stealing gold as can be inferred from the container that's opening and sending gold bars into Space.

3. The Space Police vehicle looks like a space ship to me.

4. Because it's a throwback to the Space Police.

And as to all of the accusations of looking like Racers in space...

This is most likely "hyperspeed pursuit", so of course it'll look that way. We've still got a Galactic Enforcer, freeze ray frenzy, and other sets that will likely forgo this impression.

Come on people!

Has anyone noticed yet that the aliens have tie fighter pilot torsos?

I really like what I've seen. The set looks really nice, like a futuristic earth with aliens. I wasn't expecting to like it, but I actually do.

Posted
Yes, we've noticed, in fact, about 3 or 4 people have "noticed".

They are most likely preliminary, but perhaps not. :classic:

I'm sure they are. Power Miners torsos used to be from Mars Mission until a few months before release.

That new alien is fantastic, and 20,000,000 steps up from the stupid MM jellies.

I have a feeling there will be more than one type of alien...

I don't know about that black space-car thing. Its really silly looking, but at the same time, its kind of retro-cool.

Steve

I believe it's a space freighter. Like a flying semi truck. Never mind! ... Yes, it silly, yet retro-cool. I kind of love it!

I'm thinking that bad guy's helmet could make for some cool Warhammer 40K Ork helmets...

Space Police III ON!

~Peace

I was thinking the same thing, only for the existing Troll / Orcs in Castle ... they sort of remind me of the 'berserker' helmets from LOTR Two Towers.

I'm going to stock up :)

Hmm. I don't know it at this time. The alien looks awesome, reminds me of UFO and that theme was great. I don't like the figures however, they don't seem that space-ish. The back of the police flyer looks rather interesting. I hope the other sets will atract my attention in a good way, this however...

Well Space police line I just like it. I was expecting something more like the Classic Space (the idea is the same as Space Police Space Classic is completely stupid but I think there is too much change). I like Mars Mission more than Space Police but that I need have better pictures to discuss this.

Well, there's the first problem I see. Agents, despite having a very negative initial impression, has turned out to be one of the most popular themes of 2008, and many a Eurobricks member switched their mind on it completely after better pictures came out. Now, I know this is your opinion, but I'm hard pressed to understand why you hate a line that is obviously very creative and well designed. Is it the fact that the vehicles are really big? Or that the minifigures are wacky and cheesy? I'm afraid I don't get this at all. :sceptic:

I honestly think the best way to approach this line is to look at it like a kid would. Imagine this poster through a 10 year old's eyes - what would pop out at him? The interesting ship designs? The colors? No, the kid would be far more attracted to the prospect of space cops chasing down evil aliens who are stealing valuable items. And that's fine, because it incorporates the inner kid spirit.

The point is that in order to enjoy lines like Agents, Power Miners, and now this new Space Police line, we have to stop thinking like teens and adults, and start thinking a bit more like kids. No, this doesn't mean we have to ignore obvious flaws or poorly designed kits - even kids notice those things. But we do need to relax a bit and stop viewing the line through an overly critical lens. Instead of analyzing every little thing, we should just embrace our inner kid and imagine the lines like 10 year olds would. After all, TLC never claimed that lego was a toy primarily for teens and adults, and we shouldn't act like it is either. Just enjoy the line for what it is, and I think we'll all be better off.

I like what I see. From what I can tell, they look great!

I especially like the new logo. It is, hands down, the best logo LEGO has ever desgined in my opinion.

I hope we get more pictures soon though. Quite frankly, I'm surprised these sets didn't leak before LEGO let them out.

Here are my thoughts, as posted on my comic's home page:

FINALLY! A couple of pictures of Space Police III have surfaced, thanks to Eurobricks member mania3, who snapped pix of a banner on display at LEGOLAND in California. The pix just give a taste of what could be the 5971 Gold Heist set, but it's a taste I like! The Space Police ship pictured is sleek, predominately white and has a trans-blue canopy. It reminds me very much of the Exploriens color scheme, and Futuron before that. While the Space Police minifigs have yet to be seen, you can just vaguely see one through the cockpit canopy. It seems to have a face similar to the classic minifig smiley face. It's hard to make out, but there might be a modular jail on the back of the ship that's translucent blue and cylindrical. The Classic Space-style logo returns, depicting a ship shooting around a star (much like the one used in Star Justice). What really shines is the alien ship that is shown. It's a space-faring version of a mobster's black Cadillac from the 1950s, and it's spilling gold bricks as it is being chased by the Space Police! There appear to be magnetic canisters on the back of the car. I can't wait to see more of these, and to own some! The alien who is driving the car is also shown, and he looks as cool as heck, wearing a black flight uniform (if that's actually the final design, we're not sure) and a skull mask that resembles the face of the Sycorax from Doctor Who. It's not clear if this is the infamous Squidman from the 5969 Squidman Escape set or a different alien. Finally, it's official that this theme is called Space Police and not Space Patrol. It's about time that real Space returned!

And the Sycorax's helmet looks kinda like the UFO aliens!

I am not at all negative about these sets like the other guy, but I'm reserving my judgment. We only have pictures of one set and half of another set, taken from a single angle where you can't make out that much, so I don't know how you can say that they are "obviously" well designed. I remember MM initially looking awesome in the first previews too, but turning out to be something of a disappointment.

Personally, I would be a lot more inclined to get the bad guy sets, simply because they appear to use only "good" colors from the brick quality point of view. The SP sets (like many things from the last two years) would have to be exceptionally good for me to buy them at full price, at least until TLG cleans up their production problems.

I like the helmet.:thumbup: It reminds me of a monster from Star Trek (very boring program, except two or three episodes). I hope the torso isn't prelim as I could do with some more TIE pilots.
