Batbrick Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Really? Yellow and black clash? Are you sure you understand the definition of clashing? I can't decide if you're serious or not, but I'll just say you are and agree that it doesn't clash, especially since many other great sets have had this colour scheme. I very much like that set and will most likely get it, plus I need another giant laser after the Inferno one. Batbrick Away! Quote
CP5670 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 (edited) It seems completely out of place on an otherwise black and gray vehicle. Also the white laser cannon protruding from it seems nonsensical, but I imagine it was stolen from the Space Police. Though I admit the unique splash of yellow on that set is consistent with the scattered "grunge" feel of the bad guy sets. The color looks inconsistent to me too, but that is probably intentional and makes sense. I don't think those crates actually belong to them. (or they are intended to look inconspicuous, like normal shipping crates) Edited January 26, 2009 by CP5670 Quote
Algernon Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Pardon me for getting off topic. Clash means to the left or right of a color's complimentary color on the color wheel. So, technically, nothing really clashes with black. Pink and green are a good example of clashing. Dark blue and a bright orange clash. Purple and a green-ish yellow clash... Black and yellow do not clash.Back on topic. I'm talking about aesthetics. Quote
phoinix Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 ok if this was any other toy i think i would like it but its LEGO and to be honest im not used to all this its just way too much information' and i dont know if you get me but "we are not in Kansas any more" a whole bunch of big "<insert that tiresome argument>" pieces a whole bunch of new pieces. i dont know i will have to think about this one but my first impression is that i dont think i like the direction the company is going dont take me wrong i am sure the kids will love this and the sets will sell very well maybe im getting too old for this... Moose Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 i must say, these are much better than i anticipated. with that said, they still arent out of this world, pun intended. most of the aliens are sweet, at least their helmets are. the space police vehicle set we have already seen looks much much better than in those other pics, i love the thrusters on the back. if i get any one set from this theme, its this set. however, the GE, not gettin it done for me. its big and piecey, but i dunno. the pods are cool, and the idea of them being able to open when shot is cool, but it looks absurd, i dont think it was executed the best way. im still not sold on the color system for the police. the only vehicle it looks good on is in the said we've already seen; it looks crisp, clean, and fresh. also, the SP uniforms seem ok, i didnt really look at them because i was too annoyed that the helmets werent fully enclosed, and that is a HUGE turn off. as of right now, theres still room for improvement (although i personally like the two big bad guy cars apparently moreso than others here). im going to have to seem these sets in person or in reviews to make my final determination Quote
Spacefan Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Oh geesh, finally got on today. Simply put, Mars Mission BURIED and soon to be forgotten! I'm absolutely digging all of the Space Police models, and though I'm not big on the baddies I'll probably get a couple sets. For me the SP color scheme is a major improvement over MM. And finally a Space mothership worth placing next to the Deep Freeze Defender and Galactic Mediator, the Galactic Enforcer looks bigger than both with a super roomy interior and a heavy piece count, I expect it to sell for $80 US. The other models are sweet too, I can see many uses for the parts in Hyperspeed Pursuit's Police fighter, along with it being a awesome medium size ship too. All in all an great theme... SPACE IS BACK!!! Quote
Zarkan Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Okay, I literally cried out for joy when I saw that Toy Fair pictures were up, and it looks like my anticipation has been completely and utterly rewarded. Seriously, this new Space Police line is looking absolutely beautiful - far more than Mars Mission ever was (and I'm a fan of the theme!). The ships are wonderful, and I'm shocked at how beautiful the Galatcic Enforcer is. Also, it seems that the aliens are more organized than we originally thought - in fact, they seem to be taking the place of Blacktron as a ring of evil mercenaries and space pirates. This is backed up by the uniform look of the evil space ships and the presence of more than one of the figure orignally seen on the legoland banner. Overall, I'm EXTREMELY pleased with this line. I've been confident in TLC that they'd pull off a Space revival, and it looks as if I was right. Thank you lego for doing this. ok if this was any other toy i think i would like itbut its LEGO and to be honest im not used to all this its just way too much information' and i dont know if you get me but "we are not in Kansas any more" a whole bunch of big "<insert that tiresome argument>" pieces a whole bunch of new pieces. i dont know i will have to think about this one but my first impression is that i dont think i like the direction the company is going dont take me wrong i am sure the kids will love this and the sets will sell very well maybe im getting too old for this... Eh? I think you need to take another look at those pictures, phoinix. There are very few pieces used in any of the kits that could potentially count as "<insert that tiresome argument> pieces." In fact, this line looks to utilize about the same amount of large pieces as previous space lines. Sure, there's some big molds, but they've been present in space themes for ages - and none of them look hard to use in MOC's at all. Honestly, I'm getting tired of your constant complaining, phoinix. It seems that every post you make now is a short rant on how "TLC isn't going in the right direction," and it's getting really tiring. By the looks of all the comments so far, you're in the small minority when it comes to not liking these sets - basically everyone that has posted has had positive things to say. How about you? Quote
brickzone Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 (edited) Pretty awesome. This looks like a fun theme. The design of the sets looks pretty decent too, some intricacies there but it doesn't look like they'll have too much technic either. I just love the enemy ship disguised as a freighter. The big giant gun is just a laugh - like the Agents Volcano base. It certainly looks like a lot of play value, and for us AFOLs, it provides a nice springboard for ideas for some of us. It can be all too easy to just do boring functional MoCs, but I think the end result is more satisfying if you create something lively like this! I'm sure these sets will be a big hit. I'm guessing the large mothership, pretty impressive, has a detaching front section? Also the hinged roof of the medium sized ship is pretty cool, the way it folds back entirely (took a moment to figure out what on earth way the set was arranged). The aliens are suitably diverse and interesting looking. I particularly like the one that has an extra torso with droid arms plus alien head attached instead of a head. As for comments of Juniorisation (aren't there always) - OK they have some large parts like recent sets - but unlike the bad era, nowadays these are used *as well* as all the normal pieces in order to make the models larger. And this is *good* - they allow people to do big MoCs too! The set designs have never been more intricate - and as per my comments, the usual danger is in fact to have too much technic involved (although I wholly approve of using it in normal sets - I think the appeal of pure technic is limited to a certain market, but a far larger market can be introduced to using it to augment ordinary models). How can people talk about juniorisation with all the fine details on recent sets, the realism (perhaps too much even at times) and the more liberal use of sideways construction, brick geometry and cunning uses of special parts? If you haven't experienced this, go buy some of the great sets from about 2005 through to this year. Lego continues in it's glorious new golden age! I speak as someone who really appreciated Lego as a kid from mid 1980s through to mid 1990s, and look fondly on the days of M-Tron, Blacktron (2), Space Police (2), Ice Planet. Raven Brickroft Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I am psyched about the aliens!! New head and helmet molds. And that Four-arm guy... just what the aliens needed. Orange headed guy is probably the squidman. The spiky helmet guy seems to be just a troll with a new helm. Hey, no problems about that. Slap the troll armor in , put him in with the trolls and you've got a troll champion. Skull dudes too. Those new helms just look great. The Galactic Enforcer. just a thing of kiddy beauty! Lots of lasers and shooting things. Kids would definitely love these sets. Just needs a lot of swoosh and pew pew sounds! Quote
Moose Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 in the pic with all the baddies, there appears to be a wheel. does this mean were getting ground vehicles as well? because that could great increase my feelings of this line Quote
Sir Dano Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I'm talking about aesthetics. Wouldn't you expect a container in the blackness of Space to be a bright colour though? Quote
hewkii9 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 So does anyone know if that little black speeder is part of Squidman Escape? 'Cause I really want to see that set and its titular squidman. Quote
Section8 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Why do the bad guys' ships look like road vehicles, while the good guys' ships look like spaceships? I don't see the reasoning behind that one. Especially since the good guys' ships are fairly well designed and even remind me a little of Space sets that were post-Classic Space. The GE is huge and I'm eager to see the full review. Quote
Hewman Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Personally, I'm disappointed in these sets, but then again I doubt 30+ males are Lego's key demographic. The new head molds are interesting and it looks like there's plenty of playability for kids, they're just not for me (a child of the classic space era). On the plus side I can save more money for all the other great stuff to come out later this year. Quote

Although nothing from the set names would suggest a ground vehicle, that doesn't mean there isn't one. however, the GE, not gettin it done for me. its big and piecey, but i dunno. the pods are cool, and the idea of them being able to open when shot is cool, but it looks absurd, i dont think it was executed the best way. I agree with this... don't get me wrong, the GE is good, and I will get it provided the price isn't ridiculous. But I do think the prison pods just look terrible like that. It's clear the front section splits off from the rest of the ship a la GM, but it shouldn't be... it should look like a whole, unified design imo. I think the Hyperspeed Pursuit set is FAR superior... I think I'm in love with the Police pursuit ship. The detailing is excellent. Quote

Well, I don't agree with him but he is certainly entitled to his opinion. He isn't just trolling like that other guy was. I think what some people are referring to in this context are the numerous Technic/Bionicle-like pieces on the bad guy sets. They aren't really <insert that tiresome argument>, but they do give those sets too much of a non-Lego look. The Space Police sets are great though. Quote
Erdbeereis Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Well, this certainly blows Mars Mission out of the water doesn't it? I must say, this is a theme the likes of which we have never seen before. Crazy aliens, space freighters and more crazy aliens. But I kind of love it! Sure, they're bit "out there", but that's what space is for, discovering the unknown. I absolutely love the Space Police Force's vehicles, especially the GE and the Hyperspeed Pursuit one. The trans-blue looks stunning and I love the fact that the cockpits seem completely enclosed. I'm really looking forward to seeing these in my hands. Quote
JimBee Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Wow, these are impressive. To me, this new line is the ultimate Space comeback, blending old and new ideas. Space Police III appears to based more on vehicles than actual "sets", like Star Wars and Power Miners. The vehicles look very nice; sleek, cool, and classic. We also get lots of new molds, for extra incentive to buy these. I can't really say much else, but I look forward to some reviews. Quote
Asuka Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 (edited) I´m pretty curious about some of these new parts like those blades on the space truck... perhaps they could serve as swords too... that could be cool... quite interesting for sure. Gritty space barbarians... sweet! Caution: I don´t brake for G-Men on... Edited January 27, 2009 by Asuka Quote
mania3 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Is anyone else as disappointed as I am that the bad guys are these complex, detailed figures? I was kind of hoping for a recoloring of the MM jellies. Maybe red or something. These varied, individual, unique figures are useless to me. Quote

I'm just suprised that you can't find anything good to say at all. Isn't there something in these kits that you find worthy of praise? And if you don't, can't you at least explain why you think TLC is heading in a wrong direction? Look, I'm perfectly open to opposite viewpoints - what I don't like is when people complain about things without actually giving any reasons why they don't like something. This applies to positive comments too - somebody posting "Awesome! These kits rock!" may be expressing a very valid opinion, but he's also leaving everyone else in the dark as to why he feels this way. If you want to express disatisfaction with the new Space Police line, go ahead, but I'd like to know exactly why you feel this way. Is anyone else as disappointed as I am that the bad guys are these complex, detailed figures? I was kind of hoping for a recoloring of the MM jellies. Maybe red or something. These varied, individual, unique figures are useless to me. Well, if the jellies were actually poseable and personable like these new figures are, I might agree with you, but the jellies are neither. IMO, they are the single worst alien figures TLC has ever made, and even the release of the nice alien commanders in 2008 can't make up for the former's horrid design and lack of expression.
