Zarkan Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I was joking. They were terrible, yes. Whoops! Looks like I skimmed over that post a little too quickly. Seriously, I though I was over doing that. I think what some people are referring to in this context are the numerous Technic/Bionicle-like pieces on the bad guy sets. They aren't really <insert that tiresome argument>, but they do give those sets too much of a non-Lego look. The Space Police sets are great though. Actually, as far as I can tell, the only Bionicle pieces in these kits are some of the small fins used in the Bionicle vehicles back in 2008. And since those pieces seem to look fine on these kits, I don't mind at all. In fact, I think this is probably the best use of Bionicle pieces in system kits in ages. Quote
Svelte Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Love the aliens! Not so keen on their vehicles. The new wingy blade pieces look a little tackola. Basically, I agree with what CP5670 just said Too many stickers on everything but some of the Police vehicles look nice. I hope the big GE has some kind of interior space, which it does look like it should from the bulk of the back section. I love the design work, though. The bubble dome city looks fantastic! Maybe we can have one of those as a S@H exclusive if the line does well Quote

Svelte Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Imagine the size of that dome piece. There'd be complaints of it being too <insert that tiresome argument>. Yes, they really need to bring back these dome pieces. Only 5 times bigger! Actually I'd be happy with just a space port I'm curious about the unseen Pitstop set though - do we really need to go into that much detail about alien body functions? I'm guessing this will be more of a space gas station. Quote
cephalopoid Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 HI ALL. This is my first post ever on EB, after lurking for about 2 years. I do occasionally post on FBTB, though. And I wanted to break my silence and lurking to say that these look awesome! I've been getting sorta bored with the Star Wars (what's that, ANOTHER AT-ST? Oh goodie!), and when I saw these, my jaws dropped. These look like the Space Police I've been yearning for since the old days of Blacktron (the original black Blacktron, not the green one). Thanks for posting these! Quote
Brickmaster Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I had high hopes for this line. Thankfully, most of them were met. I definitely am in love with those aliens, but I'm going to wait for more price and set info before I pick out the ones I want. Quote
Moose Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 for those of you wondering who squidman is, u might be able to find out if u do some searching. in the pics of the boxed sets, they have characters on the front; the two guys with the skull helmets are named twin 1 and twin 2, the guy in the troll outfit with maximus decimus meridius' helmet from "Gladiator" is named spike, and the cyclops guy from the impulse looks like his name is something along the lines of cyclops. the yellow guy is on there and the green guy is in the background of an actual set, but i cant make those 3 out clearly Quote
Tinn-man Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) I love that big freighter, it reminds me of a smuggler from star wars. That four armed alien thing is actually pretty scary . These look better than I thought they would. I'm going to have no money by the end of the year Edited January 27, 2009 by Tinn-man Quote
Hinckley Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Ever see Pulp Fiction? I'm wondering why the green alien has a "gimp." This set, with the hood closed, looks awesome: I wish we had some better coverage of the event. Quote
djmangunz Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 These may be some of the best sets I have ever seen. Outside of Star Wars, that is. Quote
Moose Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 you've got a dirty mind there, hinckley. i wish we had better coverage of the event also, so i could formulate a stronger opinion one way or another, im in flux right now Quote
Thrash Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I'm not much of a fan of Space usually, but I'll definitely be picking up the one that comes with the alien with the spiky helmet. That will make for the coolest gladiator helmet ever. ~Thrash Quote
UsernameMDM Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Gotta get some of those spiked and skull helmets! Quote
Svelte Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Ever see Pulp Fiction? I'm wondering why the green alien has a "gimp." Well, he's got four hands and he's only using two of them.... Quote
Algernon Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 This set, with the hood closed, looks awesome: I wish we had some better coverage of the event. Yeah, I don't understand the whole hood thing... there appears to be some functionality but wtf is it? o_O Quote
Asuka Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Yeah, I don't understand the whole hood thing... there appears to be some functionality but wtf is it? o_O It seems like the canopy opens simply via that technic L-beam... I really like the nifty design of that craft... a SP convertible... pretty sexy, even if it´s perhaps not exactly airtight... Quote
Rayman Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 The badguys are so much cooler than the new space police figures! I think I'll need to replace the new SP figs with classic ones. Quote
Algernon Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Hey guys. My girlfriend caught this, lol- the gray skull aliens now have white heads underneath the skullfaces rather than trans-orange. Discuss Quote
The Queen Of Skittles Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) Hey guys. My girlfriend caught this, lol- the gray skull aliens now have white heads underneath the skullfaces rather than trans-orange.Discuss Hehe, yes, I did. :] I really thought the red-ish orange was more alien-like...and there was more of a contrast between the grey and orange, rather than just grey and white. To be honest, I find the white a little boring...*shrug* I dunno, I preferred it the other way. Edited January 27, 2009 by The Queen Of Skittles Quote
mania3 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Hey guys. My girlfriend caught this, lol- the gray skull aliens now have white heads underneath the skullfaces rather than trans-orange. Having taken the original pictures I can tell you that they were not Trans Orange and this is just a trick of my poor quality phone camera. The eye slits in the helmet are painted and it was a regular yellow minifigure head beneath the helmet. Quote
mania3 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) That's some camera you have. o_O Yep. But trust me, it was a plain yellow head. And if you look at the one with the white fig head, the eyes are the same color. EDIT: On second glance, I've begun to doubt my own memory. I've seen color distortions with my camera before, so that validated me, but after looking at the one with the new white head closer I see that the eyes aren't the same color and aren't painted. Perhaps it was an orange head originally, but I don't seem to recall noticing that. Edited January 27, 2009 by mania3 Quote

Looks like Space Police prosecutors won't be calling you as a witness to ID the alien criminal mastermind in court any time soon... The defence would have a field day! Quote
Draykov Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 (edited) Man...that is just slick. I'm with a lot of you in thinking they kind of overdid it with the Bionicle wings for the bad guys, but I don't have any of that part yet anyway, so I'm finding ways to be okay with it. The nutty aliens look like a lot of fun and their Mad Max space cars are interesting...and if you don't like them, the police ships are as close to Classic Space as we've seen since way before the Star Justice set. As an original spacer, I'm pretty excited. A lot of potential here...lately, LEGO is really on an upswing when it comes to improvement of a theme over time. I'd like to get a better look at the good guy figs though. The poor little dude hanging off the side of the "space truck" with the yellow container looks like he could pass for a Blacktron III or something. Edited January 27, 2009 by Draykov Quote
