Dannylonglegs Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I can understand power Miners, those sets bite rocks, But this is wow AWESOME! (i know I say that to much, but it realy is) and yea SW is uber expensive this year Quote
Algernon Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Actually no, look at the Farm sets.I think LEGO is ripping off the fans of the more classic lines like City and Castle. The new themes, SP and PM, seem to be much cheaper. How is Space Police not classic? Quote
The Green Brick Giant Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 How is Space Police not classic? City, Castle, and Bulk tubs are the only Classic themes. Neither one took a breaks, they were pretty much continuously made for decades. They have changed but not as dramatically. These Space Police sets are nothing like the older ones besides the name. A name doesn't make a theme classic. This is the new age of Space, it's been 13 years since the last re Space theme, and new kids are playing with LEGO. LEGO needs to bring in the new people, and to do that with new themes the prices are lower. Quote

This is the new age of Space, it's been 13 years since the last re Space theme, and new kids are playing with LEGO. LEGO needs to bring in the new people, and to do that with new themes the prices are lower. All of the themes, including what you call classic, have seen huge changes to appeal more broadly to today's market. Castle is now more like a LOTR/fantasy type theme and "Town" is now "City" with an emphasis on action subthemes like Police and Coast Guard. The only difference between City/Castle and Space is that Space took a long break, and now it's back. Space Police 3 may not be a classic theme, but Space is, and SP3 qualifies as a Space theme, so as far as I'm concerned, this is every bit as classic as City and Castle. The change is just more dramatic because it didn't happen gradually like it did with Castle. Also, Star Wars is one of the worst examples of overpriced LEGO, and that theme is anything but classic. I think it's far more likely that LEGO raises the prices on themes they know will sell well. With the newer, less profitable themes (like you said), they lower the prices so that people will buy them. I seriously doubt the prices have anything to do with "classic" status. Quote
Oky Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 That's awesome! A tribute to Classic Space by TLC themselves! Apparently, there is a museum in the Space Police universe about classic space exploration, and Spike robbed it. Quote
Dannylonglegs Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I hope that the make the torso that marbal color or at least the head, but if they dont that is fine by me, I love the Idea of a stollen artifact as aposd to the over used and oft' abused gold robery Quote
fallentomato Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 here is a closeup of the great statue looks nice but whats the point of it being there? (thanx to no-onions from flickr) Very rough translation of the Latin on the statue: "In honor of thirty years of building in Space" Quote
Brickthing Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Very rough translation of the Latin on the statue: "In honor of thirty years of building in Space" Dang, you bet me do it! I already had the image sized up so I could put the words into the translator! Quote
Oky Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 (edited) Very rough translation of the Latin on the statue: "In honor of thirty years of building in Space" Haha, that's even more awesome! Thanks for the translation! I love it when TLG puts little jokes like this into their sets that mostly only AFOLs will understand! Edited February 16, 2009 by Oky Wan Kenobi Quote
hewkii9 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 AN INTERIOR! HOT DAMN! I was wondering if it'd have an interior. That's awesome! A tribute to Classic Space by TLC themselves! Well this way it's even easier to tell they're the bad guys - the kids see it as stealing a statue, the AFOLs see it as stealing their childhood. Quote
Algernon Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Very rough translation of the Latin on the statue: "In honor of thirty years of building in Space" Wow... respect to TLC! Quote
Dark Brickz Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 wow these are great, im going to get them just for the diffrent aliens. so i can add it to my star wars collection... Quote
Iron Moose Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Very rough translation of the Latin on the statue: "In honor of thirty years of building in Space" A more accurate translation is "in the thirtieth year to the infinite sky it was built". Quote
Algernon Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 A more accurate translation is "in the thirtieth year to the infinite sky it was built". What? Quote
SWMAN Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I like how they made it into an actual police theme in space with the enemies being different/random aliens and the good guys a police force. I also like the variety of the convicts and how they actually created new heads and designs. A lot of these can be used for Star Wars as well. Quote
Iron Moose Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 (edited) What? IN-ANNOS-TRIGINTA-AD-CAELUM-INFINITUM-CONSTRUXIT "in annos triginta" - in thirty years, accusative of time ad - preposition indicating "towards" or forward motion, used with the accusative caelum infinitum - noun and adjective modifying noun respectively, both in the accusative case because of "ad" - "caelum" is a neuter noun meaning "sky" or "heaven" while "infinitum" is pretty much as you would expect. construxit - third person singular perfect form of construo, construxi, constructum - "to build" - meaning "he/she/it built" There's certainly no word for "honour"... the Latin word for that is... honor. So really it should be translated "[he/she/it] built in thirty years to the endless sky." That sounds pretty awkward. Why? Because I'm guessing the person who wrote the motto was not exactly a classics scholar, not that I'm such a genius myself... Edited February 16, 2009 by Iron Moose Quote
Batbrick Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 It means "Thirty years of building and the sky is still unlimited". Anyway, I'm currently too happy to comment, so I'll just say that if I die tomorrow, I die knowing Lego space is safe.... Batbrick Away! Quote
Wrinkledlion X Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 This minifigure is the greatest thing that's happened to LEGO in decades. Quote
hollisbrick Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Just as I expected! They look awsome I just hope the prices aren'y expensive and this them will be, if not already, perfect But what's the yellow thing under the four arms set? Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Heh, the statue is great, I love the nod to Classic Spacel. The alien minifigs are superb, it looks like we'll be getting some great parts from them. I sure hope those moulds are preliminary though, I'm not in love with that textured look at all. All in all, the sets look great, I'll definitely have to pick up a few of these. Quote
Batbrick Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 This minifigure is the greatest thing that's happened to LEGO in decades. Total and utter agreement. I'll vent my absolute joy at the wonder these sets bring to my heart tomorrow, but i will say a few things that are especially good: -Squidman, just brilliant. I'll get two of his set and use his body for a Poison Ivy plant monster. -The Statue, this proves to me how much effort TLC put into this line, especially with the message at the bottom -the Space Police Hyperspeed Pursuit vehicle, just look at those engines and tell me this doesn't deserve to be remembered as a great. -The skull twins, creepy and badass in perfect sync -Actual policing, who would have thought? -the trans blue, now I can make a Nora Fries cryogenic tube! Batbrick Away! Quote
Jippon Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 All those new aliens would look great in a custom star wars cantina:P Also the green one from the small set looks like 'the fly'... Quote
Spacefan Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Toy Fair 09 is here and judging by these images Space Police is looking great to me from all angles. I can say with certainty it is the best conceived line to wear the Space Police name. This could end up being one of the all time classic themes from LEGO, and not only in Space. As for the statue in the GE set, how touching and thoughtful TLG is, that just proves they are thinking of us AFOL fans of Space. The Galactic Enforcer is looking awesome too, its clear much influence was taken from the Galactic Mediator (Space Police 2) in its development and looks even bigger in size, certainly worth the $100 US to me, Large interior, trans-dark blue windscreens and all. Though again it appears LEGO's over all pricing has been revised upward for the 2009 product year, just what all buyers of LEGO need in these economically stressed times. Quote
Justin Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 (edited) With Space Police III taking place in a more modern galactic setting, that suggests the Classic Space theme is the galaxy's equivalent of ancient Rome to most of the alien and human races throughout the galaxy. I like that concept. I could see it now (if I were one of the Space Police officers). A picture of that statue gracing the cover of "Galactic Geographic" magazine. It's great that they're honoring the classics. First, the minifig collections, and now this. Edited February 16, 2009 by Justin Quote
VBBN Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 This theme brightens up my day. Everything looks great. Quote
