Algernon Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I have plenty of trans-orange canopies from Mars Mission. Quote
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 At long last, I'm happy to share the first look at Space Police III! I was at LEGOLAND today and they had a banner up in the store so I thought I'd snap off a few pictures to share my excitement with everyone here.Sorry if they're low quality, they're the best my cell phone could do and it was all I had on me at the time. I hope you enjoy them. Basically, what you're looking at is the banner which features the logo, a wanted poster of one of the new baddies at the bottom, and to the right a chase scene in progress. I tried to get close ups of the ships for you. I might be heading back in a few days, and if I do, I'll take the real camera. Enjoy! - Wes Thank you Wes! You are awesome! We can finally change this topic title to "Space Police" and talk about the new sets. And these spammy kids can cut the speculation crap! Hooray! I love these. I think they're absolutely amazing and they've renewed my interest in Space LEGO in a way that Mars Mission never could. I look forward to everyone being able to see the whole line because it's really cool! Not that I've seen more than this ... ... but wow based on that one set, it's going to be awesome. Don't you think? Quote

Don't you think? Hey now, don't disrespect us few spacers. I absolutely agree. This looks like hyperspeed pursuit. Quote
Darth_Dracus Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I love the alien ship car thing and the new helmet, but how hard would it be to make a new torso? I have enough Tie Pilots as it is. Quote
Hinckley Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Hey now, don't disrespect us few spacers. Sorry. I don't think you are spammy at all. I've just been waiting to be able to talk about this line! Quote
CP5670 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I forgot to say earlier that I absolutely love the new Space Police logo and emblem. It's even better than the old ones IMO. Quote
JimBee Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Wow, these look great! Thanks for the pics, mania3. The bad guy looks very neat, and the black speeder will be a must-buy for me. From these pics, this looks like a great line. Quote
Brickthing Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Cool, I'm liking the looks of the new pictures. The alien is a proper non-cheesy minifig, and the space police have a police like colour scheme! My only doubt on the sets right now is that it looks like there are a lot of stickers on that hotrod. Quote
VBBN Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Wow! I want that new fig! Cant wait for more pics. Quote
mania3 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Amen. Maybe LEGO's not finished with the suit decals. Perhaps. I only wonder, given the fact that they've already taken the time to start advertising for it. My assumption would be that this series is almost entirely finalized. But then again, I know little of the design process. Quote
Lego12 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Yay Space Police! MM sucked megablocks..but this is a whole different story.....all I can say is that I look forward to it and I absolutely love it! Quote
Erdbeereis Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Now that's more like it! This line looks so much better than Mars Mission, both in vehicle design and in the minifig department. That new alien is fantastic, and 20,000,000 steps up from the stupid MM jellies. And while the ships seem to have a lot of stickers, one can always leave them off. I eagerly look forward to more pictures! Many thanks for the news! Quote
pugsx3 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 The Torso looks To Be The Tie Pilot From Star wars :: Quote
optimus-convoy Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Oh wow. I'm liking what I see so far. The space police vehicle design seems to be headed in the right direction. The inclusion of a space hot rod is pretty wack, makes me wonder what other vehicles the squidmen might use. It's also nice to see the switch back to minifig-based aliens, they seem pretty reminiscent of the UFO figs. Perhaps. I only wonder, given the fact that they've already taken the time to start advertising for it. My assumption would be that this series is almost entirely finalized. But then again, I know little of the design process. I recall hearing somewhere that Lego designed lines over a year or so in advance. I'd assume with a (summer was it?) release, they'd almost have this line in production by now. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 The space Police line looks great! I love that skeletal-like helmet. It could come in handy for other themes, and thanks for the pics. I hope that the final skeleton-guy get's his own body though! *cough cough stromtrooper pilot cough cough* Quote
Algernon Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Perhaps. I only wonder, given the fact that they've already taken the time to start advertising for it. My assumption would be that this series is almost entirely finalized. But then again, I know little of the design process. It varies. Some sets have changed two months before release. Others are done years in advance. In this case I think I've heard from another source the the SP figs used city police torsos, and this Tie pilot torso on the badguy implies that they're not finished. Power Miners had MM torsos until a little before release. Decals seem to be last on the list of things to do in theme design. Quote
Motti Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 We haven't seen an original Lego space theme for a really long time (not including those bad small sets which ended up as bargain sets). Definitely interested. Let's hope Lego can be creative with this lineand not just borrow elements from other lines. Quote
iamded Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I'm thinking that bad guy's helmet could make for some cool Warhammer 40K Ork helmets... Space Police III ON! ~Peace Quote

I guess we'll wait then for even more pictures. Quote
MagPiesRUs Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 It looks great! The designs look wonderful and it's nice to see ships without such exuberant colours again. It looks as if we'll be getting some great minifigs too. I'm thinking that bad guy's helmet could make for some cool Warhammer 40K Ork helmets...Space Police III ON! ~Peace I was thinking more along the lines of a Necron. Quote
mania3 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 LegoKing - I was standing in front of the big wrap around check out counter in "The Big Store" near the park entrance to LEGOLAND, California. I was actually on my way out of the park, having already looked all through the entire store, when I turned and saw "POLICE" obscured by some Star Wars sets. I thought, "Huh, that's an odd City Police logo." Suffice it to say, the further I walked and the more of the sign I brought into view the more excited I got. It was one of those things you'd miss if you weren't looking for it, so I must have got lucky, and thus all of us at Eurobricks got lucky. Quote
Algernon Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Quite a happy turn of events for all, especially us Space fans. I'm glad you have such sharp eyes. I don't know about you, but I'm pumped to see the Galactic Enforcer. Quote
mania3 Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 I don't know about you, but I'm pumped to see the Galactic Enforcer. I absolutely cannot wait. My fondest LEGO memories center around the years I played with my Galactic Mediator. The Space Police III line will drop right around the time I'm celebrating my one year anniversary of returning from my Dark Ages. It seems so appropriate. Quote

The Space Police III line will drop right around the time I'm celebrating my one year anniversary of returning from my Dark Ages. It seems so appropriate. The timing is strange for me, because I was too young for LEGO when the Space Police came out. I've actually just RECENTLY started collecting Space Police II sets (I've got a Rebel Hunter, and I love it). I plan on completing my collection of SPII and then bearing down in the third wave like a leopard over it's prey. If all the sets are as good as those two ships, then I'm definitely hooked. I just hope the Enforcer is better than the Hypersonic Operations Aircraft, which had way too many weapons and a somewhat clunky design. Edited January 11, 2009 by Algernon Quote

Low quality or not, those ARE an eye feast! Mars Mission is over indeed, and with those very few low-res images I can say for myself that Space is back in full force. The Squidman's space car seems a little different and out there, but it looks cool enough and works for the theme. I suspect this is the Hyperspeed Pursuit set, and that the Galactic Enforcer will consist of a far more substantial spacecraft than the barely medium sized ship the police are using here. Its good to see TLC still using colored windscreens for Space, with that color being blue, a toned down color that goes with many things without looking too unbelievable as being canopy glass, it was also a common Classic Space color in the 80's. We may not see the actual Police figs yet, but I would be satisfied if TLC reused the old Clone Pilot torso like the one below, matched to different colored arms and legs, with a standard head and helmet/visor on top.
