Moose Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I was striaghtening my room the other day and realized I have quite a collection of lego boxes. Theres no more room in my room for them. I'm not someone who buys sets and then sells them along with their box years later on ebay for millions of dollars, so Is there any reason to keep them? Does anyone just buy boxes on ebay? Im curious as to what some of you guys do with the boxes once you build the sets Quote
brickzone Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I store boxes inside of boxes, which reduces the space they take up. I think I have about nine of the largest size of box filled with boxes, and stored in bags in the attic. If you ever want to sell any sets in the future, you can make a point of them having the box. I'm not sure many people would go for box alone, though perhaps for the big/exclusive ones you might get a couple euro. Quote
Justin2224 Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I generally open both ends and fold them up and store them in my closet or under my bed. But they're your boxes, so do with them as you please my friend Quote
VBBN Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 I do a mix of the above posts. I put the smal boxes into larger boxes, and whatever is left I flatten, carefully taking away the tape. Quote
Hewman Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 (edited) There is a bit of a demand for boxes, particularly older ones and ones from bigger sets. If you buy lots of star wars battle packs, there's probably not a lot of point in keeping the boxes. Have a look on bricklink under 'box entry' for set numbers you have and see what they're worth. Postage tends to be the thing that prevents a lot of sales in boxes, but if you have hard to find ones they are worth selling. Just out of curiosity, which sets/themes do you have boxes for? darkrebellion Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I also have a large box collection so I think in a plan to use them back in May when I was building up my lego room. I put the boxes together in the largest wall of the room, so all of them create a only big mural of boxes . Quote
Cardinal Brick Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I tend to now use the box in box method and throw out any boxes that I think aren't worth keeping. Though all the sets I've ever bought in the US are boxless as they're far to hard to pack. Quote
Dragonator Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 I've got a bit of a problem with boxes I must say. I flatten all the ones that can be flattened, and store them inside the boxes that can't be flattened easily, that is, the ones that have opening lids and solid sides. This does however leave me with lots of bigger boxes That I don't know what to do with. At the moment I have some stacked in a pile on the floor, and the rest slowly turning to mush in the garage. Not really the best solution, if I must say so myself. One day soon I'll eventually get around to finding some clear wrap, and then I'll wrap all the boxes and store them in the attic or something. I always keep my boxes though, I would never dream of getting rid of them. I'm just sad that I didn't have the same mind set that I have now when I was a wee fellah. Ah well, life is cruel, and then we die, so stay happy people! Quote
brickzone Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 One day soon I'll eventually get around to finding some clear wrap, and then I'll wrap all the boxes and store them in the attic or something. I've just used black bin-bags - you can fit three of the largest boxes into those. Quote
snefroe Posted November 17, 2008 Posted November 17, 2008 there's no way i'm gonna trash an old box. i put those together in plastic 31 liter boxes and store them in a seperate room. no chance in hell that i'l fold them up or anything... all the newer boxes (2000-2008) i throw away, except for a few ones, like café corner... it's not just that i'm not really into the modern sets, it's also a question of too many oversized boxes... you just can't keep it all Quote
MoonCheese Posted November 18, 2008 Posted November 18, 2008 I've usually just thrown them away. It's not I build with the box, and I'm only in a one-bedroom apartment so I don't want to use up the space. Quote
Athos Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I usually just toss them out. I used to save some, but didn't have room to store them and didn't want to move them. Plus they get damaged easily. So I usually just throw them out. Haven't had any older boxes to consider saving lately. Never bothered to save any in my younger days... Steve Quote
Tinn-man Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I save my larger boxes, and I used to save my smaller ones out i threw them out. If they are taking up space, you can just collapse them by opening up the other side. You don't have to fold the box at all Quote
Johnny 5 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I have a storage unit I keep all my boxes in, I still have to put the smaller boxes in the larger ones though. Quote
Svelte Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I keep some and throw the rest - I don't have room otherwise! If I buy multiples, I keep one, flatten it and throw the rest. A lot of boxes I could care less about so they go on the trash (eg Creator sets or Exoforce); other ones like the lovely Green Grocer box are too nice to get rid of. I actually really like the new boxes with simple tabs on either end which are easily flattened, rather than the other recent style where you have to tear the corners and then fold up the lid. I find flattened boxs get less damaged in storage than keeping the whole boxes and putting stuff in them as any weight tends to squash 'em over time. I will keep boxes if I think I am maybe going to sell a set in the future as it definitely affects the resale value. The more Lego I buy, the harder it becomes to make choices. I don't really regret getting rid of any boxes though. I figure if I am ever wealthy enough to own a large enough vault to store an archive of unflattened Lego boxes in, I will certainly be wealthy enough to track down desired items and buy 'em on bricklink! Quote
Guss Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I just throw them away... I kept some, but because they're used to storage^^ ( the 7784 box is nice to store pieces ^^ ) , but I just don't really care about keeping the boxes^^ Quote
CP5670 Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 I save all of my boxes, although I kept them in my parents house since I don't have enough room in my apartment. I will probably leave them there until I get a larger place of my own. They're fun to look at every now and then. To be honest though, the boxes today are pretty crappy compared to what they used to have 10+ years ago. They no longer have the alternate models on the back or the flap and "featured parts" tray, and the cardboard itself is thinner and lower quality. Quote
Corvus Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I'v been building up a small collection of boxes, of which I've cut the front out and plan to stick to the wall as a sort of 'LEGO art'. What? Don't look at me like that... Quote
Oky Posted November 20, 2008 Posted November 20, 2008 I don't keep my boxes. I tear them open to get to the goodies inside, then throw them away. I don't sell my Lego, and I have the bricks and instructions to prove that I own a set, so what would be the point in keeping the box. Besides, I really need the space to store my vast Lego collection! Quote
voxel Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Hi! I usually ditch them, unless they open decently and can be used for sorting bricks while building. All the building instructions are kept in two very large boxes. Quote
donneyboy Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 i put smaller boxes into small boxes into medium boxes into larger boxes, then store them in my room. Quote
