Presenting the first review in my 4 part series of Adventurers reviews, 1183 Mummy and Cart!

untitled.png

Johnny and his friends have been wandering the desert for days on end, searching for food...

Suddenly they see something in the distance, perhaps help!? They get closer, and suddenly realize it's nothing but an old mummy wandering around with a little cart.

Let's research him a little more. Maybe we will make a scientific discovery!

Set Info:

Name:1183 Mummy and Cart-Was also released as set #3021

Theme:Adventurers

Released:1999

Pieces:17

Price:??? I would assume $3.50 as it's an impulse type set.

=========================================================

First, the instructions.

Just a simple image of the mummy pushing the cart in the desert.

The instructions have an interesting papyrus look to them.

Minifig

With this set you get the pharaoh's mummy. He has really nice printed legs and helmet, a good torso print and a good mummy head that has many uses.

The mummy carries some sort of a ceremonial stick. If you can figure out what it is, let me know.

Pieces

Even though there aren't too many pieces, for an impulse set, the selection is quite nice. Some of the more interesting ones are a lovely printed map, 2 nice wheels and a gem.

The Cart

Once it's built, the cart looks pretty nice, albeit a bit strange with a map and a gem sticking out from a tan slope.

All together:

I'm not quite sure what exactly the mummy is doing here... By the off chance you figure it out, please do let me know!

It's nice that the mummy can hold on to the cart well, and that way it stays level.

=======================================================================

Now, for the final verdict!

Price: 7/10 (As far as I know, it's priced the same as other impulse sets which are decently priced.)

Pieces 9/10 (For an impulse set, you get some nice pieces with this.)

Design: 7/10 (The cart looks good, but I'm not sure what it's really supposed to be.)

Playability: 6/10 (There's not much to do beside push it, and that's not even too easy.)

Overall: 29/40

Since I couldn't figure out what the cart is for, I modded it a bit, and made my own story.

King Tut got tired of the same old afterlife routine of pushing a little cart around, so he decided to change things up a bit.

Oh look! Our first customer! :sweet:

For an impulse set, I think this is a very nice one. I've always liked Adventures sets and this one is no exception.

Thanks, and happy building. :classic:

Stay tuned for part 2, 5920 Island Racer

Excellent review. The set's name doesn't leave much to the imagination, huh?

I think this is an above average set. Has a nice minifig, a jewel, two useful wheels, and the printed map. Like you, I have no idea why a mummy would be lugging around a cart, especially when that cart is not adorned with jewels and gold. On the printed map there is the red jewel on it so maybe some treasure hunter stole the jewel and the mummy is arriving back to his tomb after getting some revenge? Or maybe he is fulfilling a prophecy? This is why I love LEGO as there are no definitive answers, for the most part.

Oh, and it isn't an Erdbeereis1's review without Spongebob.

Woo hoo, it's has been awhile since I last saw your review. Your reviews are going to contribute to KimT's latest wonderful Adventurers index.

By the way, you have use a waterprint for your first picture. Aren't you going to apply to all of your pictures? This is an above average set, which enable you to purchase a mummy at a very affordable price. I never had a chance to own one of this, and I will love to have one of these minifigs. A printed map tile is certainly most welcome in any LEGO sets. By the way, your LEGO variations are very funny, especially with your usual Spongebob act. Great job!

Thanks everyone! :classic:

I fixed the set number KimT. Provisorak, I forgot that a picture gets resized here to 640 x 480 anyway, so there's no point in making it 800 x 600.

I'll make sure to take them at 640 x 480 next time, which is what I normally do anyway.

Thanks again! I'll probably have part 2 up later today or tomorrow.

I recall the other release as 3021 to be named: "King Pharaoh the third"

But that may just be what the guy who inventoried it on Bricklink.com called it.

Thanks for the review and I can't wait for the next one :classic:

Looking forward to your part 2. In fact, I am sure Brickster will be excited to see your next review as well, since that minifig's highlights is one of his sigfigs.

I reckon the cart is some sort of portable version of the Indiana Jones map room  I mean it has a raised jewel and a map...

But this set always seemed vbery weak to me, especially in an otherwise creative line. A simple mummy with sarcophagus would be grand...

God Bless,

Nathan

For a small set this one sure has a lot of printed pieces; legs, hat and one of the 4 (?) maps from the desert adventurers. I voted above average.

Great review, can't wait for the next (I love that set).

Interesting, I never saw this set in the stores or online, and I was quite the Johnny Thunder collector. Still, I did miss most the of the Egyptian sets, so it is understandable. Ok set for me. The cart has little play value or even display value. The only thing really worth getting if the figure.
