The website at www.eurobricks.com contains elements from the site www.studentport.ru, which appears to host malware – software that can hurt your computer or otherwise operate without your consent. Just visiting a site that contains malware can infect your computer. anybody ever experienced this thing? can someone explain about this malware if it is exist? what is about this studentport.ru thing? Skelotic Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Weird. Sometimes I get something like that from Norton Antivirus on my computer randomly, but if I refresh the page it is fine. It actually usually happens on eurobricks or on engadget. Did you try to refresh the page? If it still has it I don't know. Quote
djo Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 amazingly it's only happen in Google Chrome and this link only, and it's keep repeating when i refreshed it. Quote
Skelotic Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 Does it repeatedly say the same website for the virus? Quote
Buttons Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 I may just be being ignorant but what is Google Chrome? Quote
Siegfried Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 This is a case of guilt by associating with another site that was guilty by association. The evil in question is this image; :pir-skull: ----> <----- :pir-skull: Studentport.ru must have something bad on it. Most likely a link to a hacker site. Thus they are deemed evil. We have a link to them. Thus we are deemed evil. I'm very against this chain of logic and I've been bitten by it in the past. Let me assure you that it isn't a virus or anthing. it's just that Chrome is too stupid to differentiate an image from a link. (Chrome is a browser that Google are claiming to have written. In reality much of the hard work was done prior; much like Safari.) Quote
Skelotic Posted November 24, 2008 Posted November 24, 2008 (edited) (Chrome is a browser that Google are claiming to have written. In reality much of the hard work was done prior; much like Safari.) Funny, from my experience I thought that Chrome was an operating system due to the fact that it has its own task manager to delete tabs and because it would probably work on its own computer like Linux . Actually Google only supports Chrome on Windows. Actually ive had security problems with eurobricks several times , i do not know of this malware though but yes i have been having prtoblems too. Any details? Do let me stress though that Chrome is wrong in this case and I've never heard of any case of actual malware being on EB. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted November 25, 2008 Governor Posted November 25, 2008 (Chrome is a browser that Google are claiming to have written. In reality much of the hard work was done prior; much like Safari.) So that's why it looks like Safari with a slightly more graphical interface? Quote
Siegfried Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 So that's why it looks like Safari with a slightly more graphical interface? Probably. Both are WebKit based. Quote
djo Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 okay, i get it now. thanks Sinner for your explanation. yeah, stupid Chrome. Quote
Skinny Boy Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 The evil in question is this image; :pir-skull: ----> <----- :pir-skull: So are you saying that picture in The Penguin's signature is evil? I have never had problems with Eurobricks (which is odd, because Vista is terrible ). Only the occassional slowness, which is just the PC. Quote
Siegfried Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 So are you saying that picture in The Penguin's signature is evil? No, just the source. I downloaded it and hosted it here so Chrome should be happy... for now. I have never had problems with Eurobricks (which is odd, because Vista is terrible ). I'm actually a Vista fanboy. I loved Win2K, hated XP, but I think Vista is great! Quote
