legobear Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I have been playing with my Viking minifigs for two years, and my castle figs for about 1 year. I have already destroyed the Viking arm joints by attaching and reattaching them to different torsos. My castle figs on the other hand, I just simply play with them and have them use different weapons but I can tell already that their arms are going to be loose as well. How can I keep my minifigures in good shape so that there arms can still be used to hold weapons without falling falling back down? Do any of you guys have this issue? Quote
Playstation3 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 What I do to keep my figs in good condition is I just don't play too rough Quote

Siegfried Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I'm very nice to my figs. I rarely change arms and even more rarely remove hands. The torsos are not designed for that kind of treatment. Once or twice I think is OK, but beyond that... On the other hand I'm 33 so I don't have time to play as much as I would like. Quote

KimT Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Me too, I just get another torso and the arms from bricklink. Wow! You are 33, I thought you were younger like 29 or 39.... And that might explain how you got your title I rarely interfere with the intended design of a torso. Whenever I feel like changing the arms or hands, I order the exact parts from Bricklink.com I've only seen bruises in the arm joints or hand joints on very very old minifigs. - The ones the same age as me (which is 32 Mr. Silvery pr0vo) Quote
legobear Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Thank you so much guys and gals, that was very good advice! I had no idea we had to be THAT careful, I always thought of Lego as indestructible. I regret taking those arms off so if anyone is reading this, know that if you do it too many times the arms will eventually just stay at their sides, and won't be pose-able anymore. I won't be taking off anymore arms. Hence from this day forward, I will refrain from handicapping and surgically removing the arms of my brave warriors and citizens ! Quote
Sir Dillon Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Since this advice does not apply to just a single theme, I'm going to move this thread to General Discussion. Quote
hewkii9 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 And that might explain how you got your title Wait how does silvery provo have any relation to being in your thirties? I google Silvery Provo and all I get are carriages and miscellanea. Quote
Siegfried Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I had no idea we had to be THAT careful, I always thought of Lego as indestructible. It's why I don't like using mini-fig parts in MOCs. I see the torso as one piece and thus if it's not that way then it's "broken". Quote
Svelte Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I never change arms but will very occasionally change hands - usually just to match fleshtone/ skintone for heads for MOCs. Many of my surviving figs from the early 80s suffer from a debilitating and severe flopsy-joint syndrome and their legs constantly fall over in front. It is so sad to see these once-proud citizens of Lego Town bowed down and broken in the path of oncoming traffic.... in the street... anywhere at all really There's been a few hip-replacement operations around town, I can tell you. chris_austin Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I don't know how many of you would agree with this but since the minifig torso or hips are already imperfect (through play or repeated removal), then the following suggestion can't hurt. You could always apply a very small amount/layer of glue on the arm joint, to increase it's dimension ever so slightly. Once it's completely dry, insert it back into the torso and hopefully, the joint will seem stiff again. Quote

Here's how to stiffen loose joints: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...st&p=295516 It's similar to Chris Austin's suggestion but doesn't use glue. Hope that helps, Amps Edited November 27, 2008 by AmperZand Quote
eti Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 That's a relief. I have been doing it the correct way - put them horizontal and then bend outwards. The way that guy always did it is sure to cause disaster indeed. Quote
