With more and more 6-wide trucks and other vehicles around now I decided it was time to think about what to do if any of these vehicles was to break down. This is my solution:

Imag0003.jpg

Front view with driver showing lots of orange warning lights and the contraol for the height adjustment of the boom arm. You can also see the safety barrier stashed and the fire extinguisher. There is a spanner on the other side out of view.

Imag0004.jpg

Side view showing the doors and the lockers as well as the four axles for stability when towing.

Imag0006.jpg

Rear view showing the boom which is fully adjustable for angle, reach and height meaning most large vehicles should be able to be recovered and towed. The chain is to secure towed vehicles during their journey and has six mounting points on the boom/towing arm.

Imag0009.jpg

With a broken down ambulance in tow demonstrating the boom and chain in action.

The same again from the rear.

The arm extended and raised with the tow bar repositioned to give an idea of the movement possible. Also a good view of the rear facing spot lamps for working in the dark.

Very good work! It's a very nice tow truck with some nice details like the fire extinguisher. Good mechanism to tow cars! You used quite many bricks for the area after the driver's cabin. Was that necessary so that the truck won't be off balance? If you want to avoid it being off balance, weight bricks could also be used. Still, your truck is a wonderful MOC.

This model has excellent detail and I especially like the towing fork mechanism, but the rear section is too high for a tow truck and makes it look more like a box transport truck. It would look better if you reduced the side "walls" around the towing arm by one or two brick lengths.
