brickzone Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) Well, having bought the Castle Advent Calendar about 3 months ago (indeed, bought 4 of them, one for me and three others for family members), I finally have begun to open it, with the first panel this morning. If anyone else has held off on opening their advent calendar till today, and avoided any reviews and such earlier, then you'll probably have the same opinion as me that what's inside the first compartment is just to taunt us or whet our appetites! Still looking forward to some of the unique goodies in the box, but it is kind of nice to not know what day we'll be getting them! So, who else is enjoying a little surprise each morning from now till Christmas? Photo of Advent Calendar as of 04/12/08 (DAY 4): Edited December 4, 2008 by brickzone Quote
LegoFranks Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I opened the first door this morning with my daughter... Suffice to say, we were puzzled when the figure that came out bore little resemblance to the one on the door! Ours had the new flat/round headpiece (http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/527) and two swords! :oS M. Quote
Skafte Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 Perhaps the plastic tray inside your box is the wrong way? I know this happened in some City calendars last year. This will be great, I was thinking of saving the Castle calendar and selling it next year, as they on an auction site here in Sweden sold for more than twice the retail price this year... Luckily, I have another for easy money in a year or two. Quote
LegoFranks Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 What're the odds of it just being a figure though? We'll see what we get tomorrow! M. Quote
Shadows Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I ripped open all the little baggies, assembled the figures and tossed the rest of the parts together in another ziplock until I deal with them. No mystery for me, no patience, and no particularly advent-uary tendencies. That said... So, who else is enjoying a little surprise each morning from now till Christmas? That's a fine idea for a thread and would add a lot to this one. Would you consider taking a little pic of each day's offering as you go, to make the whole thing sort of interactive for those who couldn't get it? Oh, and just as an opinion... I love the calendar, but it's amazing how expensive you realise it is once you put all the pieces together in a very small pile. That said, it's got some great minifigs, so it's worth it to me. Quote
brickzone Posted December 1, 2008 Author Posted December 1, 2008 That's a fine idea for a thread and would add a lot to this one. Would you consider taking a little pic of each day's offering as you go, to make the whole thing sort of interactive for those who couldn't get it? Well, I didn't want to do that for now because there are folks in different time zones, and there might be some strange person checking Eurobricks in the morning before opening their advent calendar, and if they read this thread and it had a photo it would give it all away :) Paranoia maybe, but the reason I started a new thread rather than added to an existing Advent Calendar thread was to have one specifically for people to read without "spoilers". I'll add a photo later in the day. If I'm correct it's only 06:13 in eastern USA right now. Quote
Guss Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I also bought it 2 months ago and waited to open it, and yeah I totally agree that the first box is here to make us think the little sets will be better and better every day,But I got... an extra head! woot! I'll add the pics of the every day set when I'll open it here : http://guss.teammu.com/modules/extgallery/...album.php?id=44 Quote
Pencoin Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I love the little knight I got, he's pretty cool with his spear, I didn't get any extra pieces though. Can't wait to see what tomorrow has! (I hope its a weapons rack of somesort) Quote
KimT Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I bought 2 Castle calendars and must shamly admit that I ripped the first one open and fumbled everything in it. Today I opened the first door in the Castle and City calendar. And I was still happy. I got the right figs with the right pieces. (When will I get the wrong printed shield? ) Quote
CastleLord Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 (edited) Well I waited and opened it today and I was like a little kid. Castlelord. Edited December 1, 2008 by CastleLord Quote
UsernameMDM Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I already opened one when I first got them in, and can't decide if I want to open the second one or save it till next year. Quote
Guss Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I think you can open it UsernameMDM, next year they'll surely release another awesome advent calendar! Quote
slimninj4 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I saved my and will be opening the first one tonight when i get home. Quote
bsmith13 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I waited until today to open mine, and I only opened Day 1. My wife grinned at me and my kids couldn't wait to see what was in the box. They have a different advent calendar to do, but they are still excited to see what's in my calendar. Quote
Matn Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I've waited untill today. However, I immediatly opened it for the jester, castle maiden/lady and the witch. The others will be opened this month. And the same for the City Calendar, which I gave to my sister. Quote
Pate-keetongu Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 You are lucky mans here.... I was too late when I get to buy this, it was sold out just in few days from my city. Hopefully my friend trades thaat dwarf to me...... Sniff... Quote
The Rancor Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I found my knight in the first window today - pretty generic, just with a pearl spear. Shame there aren't two of those archer helmets in the calendar. Oh well, at least I this torso compared to the crownie ones with 'just' a crown. ...As for the face... Quote
Razzer Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 I ordered mine, and I would have opened it today but it ain't arrived! Quote
Scop Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I bought three calendars in October and although I am not interested in christmas and all this religious stuff, I´ve waited till December first to open the first box. I just wanted to know if I am able to wait such a long time :D Now I am opening the boxes day by day Quote
Erdbeereis Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 I waited until today to open my Castle and City calendars, but I also read all of the reviews to get more excited about them. Can't wait to get to the days with the maiden jester and witch... Quote
LegoFranks Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Well, today's box was correct... So, I must've had an oddity yesterday! M. Quote
eti Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 it's amazing how expensive you realise it is once you put all the pieces together in a very small pile But you're in the US, aren't you? I got this set because it was so cheap... only 16 euros and free shipping from Schlecker. (But you guys have most other sets cheaper...) Quote
brickzone Posted December 2, 2008 Author Posted December 2, 2008 Useful parts in today's panel. And no addition to my own "reversed" shields (I have two, from the knight impulse sets). A reversed flag though! Slightly disappointed to realise that each day's kit won't fit in the window, but the arrangement of the lid forming a platform to display the pieces on is a nice touch (just takes up a bit more display space!) Quote
Pencoin Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 The little gate thing is a bit dull, the fig can't even walk through it! Quote
DarthPineapple Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 Both were sold out when I wanted to buy them but we found a small internet store who sold them for even less. I got both for $18 USD each. I'm waiting, because that's what makes these calendars so cool. I do know what's in it, however. Just not in what order. Quote
