This is actually my first review (and I´m an admin...) so go gentle.

The big surprice you can find on the front page.

I was told that Sweden got around 1000 of these, so check out your local stores!!

To the set then.

Set Name: Darth Vader ´s TIE Fighter

Set Number: 8017

Price: Probably $29.99 US

Pieces: 251

Minifigures: 1

Stickers: 1 sheet

The instruction book

box.jpg

Stickers, only 4 small once. Not to bad...

dss.jpg

Nice wraped mantel, in a flat package. Really nice

3 polybags

Then on to the building...

Pretty fast ran on to this piece. Saw that it was inventored to BL, but not in a known set yet. I know one

-"What the..." Can probably come in hand. More colours TLC!!

03.jpg

So the build went on...

04.jpg

Shooting things. Work scaringly good... or not. Stop putting those in every set.

How about "real" lazer??

And then the ship was done!

Side:

And finally the behind... sorry, rear... what ever...

-"Thanks for building my new ship, Plain Vader"

-"WHAT?!"

-"Why did you get such a fancy dress?"

-"Stop whining. You sound like a guy I know in Chicago!!"

It was a nice build. Looks so much better then the old versions that we got a ton of by now.

Will definatley start to "Pimp" the rest as a famous Jedi once said.

Enjoy, and let me know if there is anything you would like to know.

And stop PM me. I cant get any more for now

First time a new sets hit Sweden first, so I will just say a modest...

GO SWEDEN!!

Too much info and pictures in so little time...

Must focus...

...

Thanks Ras.

A promotional fig and a review of this, it's more than we could have hoped for

Great review, thanks! Any chance of a comparison shot between all versions of this ship?

TK

Nice review Ras! You must be one of the first to get your hands on this set! Lucky devil

Really nice set, even if i didn't need another Vaders Tie. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

Thank you very much for that great review, Ras! :sweet:

Like already mentioned in CopMike's review of the box of this set I must say that it's very well designed - but imo needless.

Btw: Ras, was that chrome-black Vader minifig included in the set itself or did you get it seperated? And do you know whether these chrome-black Vader minifigs limited (like the golden C-3POs last year) (since you mentioned that there are 1000 for Sweden)?

Great Review Ras! Lots of great relevant information. You are very lucky to snap up a Chrome DV as well (now with fingerprints sold separately  )

Perhaps you could snap some photos during daylight. This would be better to take in the full magnificence of the Tie Fighter.

Cheers

Here's my vote:

I voted for Average since

+ it's a very well designed set

- but there is not something new to it - apart from the grey instead of the blue colors :hmpf:

- and there is nothing attractive including in this set  - like e. g. an Imperial Engineer with a little vehicle etc. - which would justify to adore this set as something very special and awesome

- and the helm is much too humble  .

For me it's the same set like the older versions. The fast that it comes in grey instead of blue colors is for me :hmpf: . That it does not include something speical like a new minifig is imo a shame and does not justify to release it as a 10th birthday set  . So I personally don't understand why many people are that euphoric about this set.

But ok. :classic: There'll surely be enough other awesome OT sets for 2009 which I'll surely like very much.

Thanks for the heads-up on fingerprints :hmpf: , saw it myself when I was re-sizing pics, but didn´t whipe them of.

Wanted to post for you guys ASAP...

I live in Sweden, I work all day, there is no daylight when I come home...

I know it isn´t the best quality, but I´ve seen my fair share of bad pics, and those are not even close to those.

But if you like, I can take a better one this weekend.

Here is a comparison between the older one (in new grey) from 7262 and the 8017 in viseversa order:

Nice imporvement over the original, for a second I thought the cockpit piece was a sticker(but much to my relief it was printed)

great review, thanks for sharing...

I realy enjow the rear aerodynamics...

The gray is much better welcome than the regular blue :classic::sweet::laugh:

Very exciting news!

The set looks quite nice. It's not ground-breaking, but it's a nice looking OT set, so I'll definitely buy it.

Hopefully the lovely Chrome :vader: won't be extremely difficult to acquire.

Thanks for the review Ras! :sweet:

Thanks for all the nice replys guys!

It was just such a pleassure to be first off for once.

And a special thanks to you Kim for putting a last touch, and the indexing.

Thanks for the aweosme review Ras  , now this set looks even more awesome and must have. The TIE itself looks very well designed and if it can be get with that amazing chrome black Vader minifig :cry_happy: , than it is going to rock  .

Thanks for the review, it is certainly a cool set especially with promotions. :classic:

Ras, thanks! Finally, this is not some box art review that we have earlier.

Initally, I never intended to plan to buy this set. Right now, I may think of getting it. It might be the last TIE Fighter ever released from TLG when the contract is up. This is such an iconic fighter plane in the SW OT. Yes, I might have to plan to buy it after all, especially after looking at the deep contrast with the old TIE Fighter. I must admit that it's well designed. :sweet:

Ooooh. :oh: Shiny. New. Not blue.

GO SWEDEN!!

'bout time.

Awesome :D

I prefer the new Tie Advanced, it has more details and much closer to the original screen version. Thanks for sharing with us Ras
