December 5, 200816 yr i don't think it is that big of a deal i mean they are blaming the lego company like there the ones selling them this is possibly the stupidest article i've ever read!
December 5, 200816 yr but i agree that "the sun" is very much like "the onion" ...purely satirical and not to be taken seriously for journalism. I agree with all your points Nate Lite Soda, except for this one. The Sun is nothing like the Onion at all. The Onion is purely satirical while the Sun in purely satanic tabloid. They'r not satirising anything, they're trying to spread gossip and rumor as fact. There is a huge difference. Well, apparently, The Sun isn't the only one with this article.http://www.foxnews.com:80/story/0,2933,461647,00.html I really feel bad for BrickArms now that it's on a trusted news site. We all pretty much know they meant no harm through this, but there are going to be those who see this and automatically think to not buy from them anymore Trusted is a subjective term...
December 5, 200816 yr While my statement taken from the BrickArms Forums that was posted earlier in this thread are really all my feelings on the subject (note to younger members: feel free to blame me when your mother catches you browsing Page 3), I just wanted to give a big thanks to the many, many signs of support Will's gotten in this thread and emails sent directly to him. BrickArms products are clearly mean to enhance and compliment building and play, and Will does not endorse or promote any violent ideology through his fine minifig accessories. And yes, sales were up yesterday. Really up. Hugely up. So up, Will needed to disable the shopping cart function to catch up on the huge volume of orders he received yesterday, the vast majority of which came from people new to BrickArms. This negative piece of yellow journalism might not be the sort of attention Will would have preferred bring people to BrickArms, but when they arrived, they liked what they saw and responded with orders! badger Great to here sales are doing well. Seems like there is some good coming out of this propaganda.
December 5, 200816 yr I fail to see how this "promotes" terrorism... it's not glorifying anything. And it's also not generally being sold to children. I think it's funny when parents freak out about violent toys and videogames and at the same time ignore violent movies, TV shows, and constant messages of how war is good from the modern media. IF YOUR KID SHOOTS UP HIS SCHOOL, IT'S BECAUSE OF YOUR PARENTING, NOT THE VIDEOGAMES HE PLAYED. I also think it's ridiculous that parents will drop their kid off at a bloody war film, glorifying bloody deaths and violence, but they won't take their kids to a movie with sex in it, glorifying passion and love. Shows how messed up our society is. I love you. This, people - THIS. And I especially like that, although somewhat off-topic, you brought up Video Games, too - it's funny how when a violent videogame, or toy, appears on the shelves; especially when it has high publicity (GTA, I'm looking at you), any crime committed by anyone who happens to have played the game before is instantly because they played the game, or had the toy - no, no, and NO. It's because of their surroundings in general. If you don't ever touch an M-Rated game, or buy a violent toy, and yet your school is full of people tossing around curses so often the teachers decided not to care anymore, your parents or friends own more guns than the average hunter, and your neighborhood is full of drugs or prostitution, you've taken out the "media-backed" factor and you're still going to be more likely than most people to turn out "bad". Meanwhile, I'm glad that Will's getting some publicity from this, good or no - even if his site may eventually be boycotted by some radical religious organization (as if any of them use lego anyways, lol), this spike in sales, even if temporary, will end up being a good thing. Every cloud, it would seem, does have a silver lining. =D (Oh, and by the way, I trusted Fox News and still do - I disagree with them from time to time, and this was one of those times, but they're still my main news source ^.~) ~Trexxen
December 5, 200816 yr I caught only the teaser for the Fox report as I had to take the kids out to the bus stop, but I had to just shake my head in anticipation. Hopefully this "issue" will die out just as quickly as its been brought up!! This Nice - a radio station hailing from Pittsburgh does a "Thong of the Day" for its online listeners...
December 6, 200816 yr my friend at work sent me this and we came up with some great dark ideas for lego models that would get the awful UK press up in arms. I dont think i should repeat some of them though.... but i might try and make some dark humoured scenes when i get time
December 7, 200816 yr Also, if the Sun is dumb enough to taste the lego to see if it has bad taste, then like, what the hell LOL! Silly season has begun!Seriously, nothing to see here, move right along... It will all be forgotten in a few days. Yea like most media stories they will be forgotten soon. Wow, that's ridiculous. The Sun article really took that minifig out of context, and slapped on a pointless one-sided argument.I may be wrong here, but when a terrorist minifig like that is labled on it's website as a "Bad Guy", doesn't that give the impression that terrorism is bad, not good? And when the article talks about the small little minifigure being sold on a website only shop for 14 whole dollars, how can the article then deduce that the product is aimed at kids? I know, Anyone with half a brain could just go to the BA site and see for themselves that it doesn't say terrorist or anything While my statement taken from the BrickArms Forums that was posted earlier in this thread are really all my feelings on the subject (note to younger members: feel free to blame me when your mother catches you browsing Page 3), I just wanted to give a big thanks to the many, many signs of support Will's gotten in this thread and emails sent directly to him. Wow lots of sales, Thats good My assumption is LEGO is fully aware of BrickArms on some level and are fine with it. They just need to play the media game and wash their hands of it so they receive no bad press. That's what I was thinkin' too. I fail to see how this "promotes" terrorism... it's not glorifying anything. And it's also not generally being sold to children. Like they say, "Any publicity is good publicity!" ...well yea. sometimes

December 8, 200816 yr What a great way to kill TLC's reputation. Hope no Detroit News article has this topic.

December 19, 200816 yr Well at least the sun didnt get their hands on this... Warning, people who have a tendency to be offended will most likely be offended by the following, so dont follow the link if You have trouble accepting other peoples sense of Humor http://www.thetoyzone.com/wp-content/uploa...-faelschung.jpg (PS if You belive in God (of any kind) remember that your God has a great sense for humor and irony or why else would he/she have put the bodys "fun fair" next to the "garbage dump" ? December 19, 200816 yr I don't believe in a higher power, so as far as I'm concerned, anyone deeming themselves a prophet is a wacko (especially that Smith character...), but wow! That's funny, but its gonna piss someone off...
December 20, 200816 yr I hope this doesn't get blown out of proportion as The Sun is not widely regarded as a reliable news source. What an irresponsible joke of a publication. Sadly not everyone who hears about this will know its source. A couple of weeks ago someone who would never dream of reading the Sun told me about 'Osama bin Lego'. She though it was actually a toy made by Lego themselves. I can image that some people who hear this without knowing the facts might end up boycotting Lego products.

DS) That is WAY old news - a long while ago this image caused a controversy big enought that TLC responded, denying any claim to the image. Ironically, this fake set image uses a picture from Brenden Powell's Brick Testament, which is based on a book that stands in complete oposition to Islam. BTW, I'm a Christian, but that image doesn't really offend me - basically because it's extremely poorly done and is made using LEGO BRICKS, of all things. There's probabaly more offensive stuff than that on brickshelf.
December 20, 200816 yr Well, this is ridiculous. What I particularly dislike is how Fox News made the Mr White bandit figure out to be a suicide bomber, saying that the grenades attached to the rubber band strap is actually "plastic bombs that can be attached to an explosives belt". It's just infuriatingly ridiculous. I do like Will and Badger's responses though, and the fact that this only dramatically increased product sales. ~Peace
