Ras 74 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 I haven´t really MOCed anything in a long time. This AT-AT I have been working for some time though. It has still some way to go until done. This weekend CM and I will have a group project to finnich it up even more. Looking forward to it. It was a long time ago now since we had our crazy weekend on Brännö, if anyone still remembers that weekends building. I wanted to capture the feeling from the original 4483. So I worked alot from that one. The goal was/is to make it simular, but better. I leave the djudgement to you guys and gals for that. Used this useful site to get referenses of the "real" one, click here. Some pics maybe? First out, just the lower part of the legs. Then comparison picture with the original from LEGO. Finally cruching a rebel Snowspeeder. Will post more pics on sunday on the updates. So, comments are welcome people. -Ras- Quote
KimT Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Wow that looks great. Any plans for an interior? Or are you going for the overall exterior design of this beauty? Can't wait to see more pics of this Quote
Ras 74 Posted December 4, 2008 Author Posted December 4, 2008 Thanks! Yes there will most definatley be an interior. Pretty much as the referenses shows. But there will be room for chairs, and Snowtroopers on the bottom level of the body as well. -Ras- Quote
mutley777 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 Now that is coming on really nicely Ras! The feet a legs are looking great and shape of the main hull looks spot-on too. Have you started on the head? I guess your going for the full 2 drivers and comander. Can't wait to see how this turns out! Quote
Captain Green Hair Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 That's a great start you have there Ras, love the big foot crushing that snowspeeder! The legs could be a little thicker it hink, but i'm no SW expert. Quote
I Scream Clone Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Ras, that is looking fantastic so far! I love all the side plates and cant wait for the interior. That link is very inspiring too, I may try building an interior one day. Thanks ISC Cant wait for when you publish the instructions too Quote
JimBee Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Looks awesome so far, Ras. As for suggestions... the feet seem a tad boxy, perhaps add dishes to the bottom to give a smooth look? Quote
pr0visorak Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 The legs look good so far Cant wait it to finish! Quote
Tim Bit Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I can't wait for the interior. It's going to look great finished. The head is going to complete it. This is the most wonderful lego version of the AT-AT I've ever seen. Quote
Stash2Sixx Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 I always thought that the feet were too small on all the versions I have seen so far. Yours, however, look spot on. Well done and keep it goin'! Quote
Hinckley Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Wow, you can do more than just mod official sets. I guess you don't ride the short bus after all. Nice work. Does your brain hurt now? Quote
Ras 74 Posted December 5, 2008 Author Posted December 5, 2008 Thanks alot everyone! There is several houers of building in this project by now, and I´m really satisfied with the result myself. It is not so far away from being mini-fig size. It is just a very little to small. But I´m totally ok with that. As for suggestions... the feet seem a tad boxy, perhaps add dishes to the bottom to give a smooth look? I´m extra pleased with the feets actually, but I really wonder what you mean here?Have you looked at the reference pics? I don´t really get what you mean by adding dishes, can you develope that abit more would be great. Appreciate more ideas really! Since there is a defined limit how to build the interior, it will not fit as many troops as I want´s to. But there will be an interior that will work as on the 4483. So I will be able to "slide" the whole interior of the middle part of both floors in and out. The interior of the back section will be permanent there. The same with what will be in the front. What will fit after the construction that will hold the head in place. The head will fit a good interior, there will be good space. Stay tuned for the weekend -Ras- Quote
Morten Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Very cool work. It looks great. I would love to do an ATAT minfigs size version myself. Looking in the "records" there should be space for 40 snowtroopers, I think in two layers, and maybe with seats? The foot on the snowspeeder looks really good, allmost like the movie. Keep up the good work. What is CM building, when you battle with the ATAT? Morten Quote
CopMike Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 What is CM building, when you battle with the ATAT? This!CopMike Quote
Teddy Posted December 5, 2008 Posted December 5, 2008 Dear Ras. that is some impressive stuff! Especially compared to the original one. The side pannels look great! I'm really looking forward to your cockpit design. Kind regards, Teddy Quote
JimBee Posted December 6, 2008 Posted December 6, 2008 I´m extra pleased with the feets actually, but I really wonder what you mean here?Have you looked at the reference pics? I don´t really get what you mean by adding dishes, can you develope that abit more would be great. Well, if you like them, that's all that really counts but what I mean is that on the bottom of the feet, you could put grey dishes on there, and the put the slopes that act as the "toes" on the dishes. For a better understanding... Take a dishes, like the red circle points out, and put them on the bottom of the feet, like the blue arrow points out. Then put the "toes" on the bottom of the dishes, which are circled by green. Again, this is just a suggestion, and your feet are already looking good. Quote
Ras 74 Posted December 6, 2008 Author Posted December 6, 2008 @ JimButcher: Thanks alot That sure was super clear discription. Understood it perfectly. Are you a teacher? Didn´t expect you to draw it for me, it made my evening -Ras- Quote
JimBee Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 (edited) No problem Ras. No, I am not a teacher, but I'm glad that made you happy. Edited December 7, 2008 by JimButcher Quote
Bounty Hunter Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 I really love this very much! I mean its big, like At-At should be. and I love that last pic of the AT-AT crushing the snowspeeder! Quote
Ras 74 Posted December 8, 2008 Author Posted December 8, 2008 So we had this "building-event" this weekend. I did build on the head, but still isn´t satisfied enough to let you see the WIP of it. But for all you interior geeks ( ) I built something. I figured out that there is place for 32 Snowtroopers on the top "floor" of the AT-AT. 8 seats per row, and 4 rows. I managed to press in 16 there so far, and is pretty satisfied with that. Could definatley make the same on the lower level, and then make it 32. Here are some pics of the interior in the main hall, uper and lower level. First the AT-AT empty: Then lower level: The top level outside of the AT-AT: Last all troops loaded: The seats will be replaced with light bluich grey seats later on. Comments are welcome. So what did CM build? It will be revealed next weekend. So stay tuned until then. -Ras- Quote
I Scream Clone Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Looks like the interior is coming along nicely! Well done. Perhaps the lower level could have a ammunition rack for all the weaponry, or even a minibar I always wondered how the troopers got down onto the snow from such a height. Perhaps an extendable ladder out and to the ground is in order for the lower level. Good luck for the rest of the build. ISC Quote
Wout Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Looks great Ras. Pity they don't put that many snowtroopers in a atat set. Maybe is a toilet also a nice idea. It can be freezing cold and there are no trees on Hoth. Quote
KinGanon Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 Really awesometabulous job(couldnt find a good enough word so I had to make one up ) Really coming along nicely, I like the interior(way better than TLC's, then again this model surpasses it in so many ways Quote
Corvus Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Wow! Can't wait to see the final product of this. Maybe you should thin the seats out a little more. It just seems a bit too crowded. Also, are you going to install rapelling lines and so forth on the bottom level? What about a ladder from the first to second floors? How about the speeder bikes in the back? The engine? If you can fit all that in, that's going to be super impressive. Quote
