reki_lobsheek Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 great review!! I'm quite surprised no one has asked this yet, but I have two questions: 1) what IS the price you paid for it? (you said it was cheap, so you know the price) 2) what country are you from and what kind of store did you buy it at? Thanks for your answers! Looking forward to buy about 5 of these babies!! jonwil Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Great review, has made me move this set even higher up the wishlist. Combine the black fedora + suit, a suitable head (not the Asian ones from the set, something else) and the tommy gun from the Batman sets and you would have a perfect mobster fig (Al Capone etc) Quote
The Penguin Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Oh, my! )))) The left gangster is so Joker-before-falling- into-chemical-waste! ))))) I simply love those guys! Exellent for Bat-MOCs.... ) Good day, gentlemen! ) Quote
Darth Caedus Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Too cool! I just have to find these in the States before Christmas. Quote
djo Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 very good review. thanks. i like the minifigs' faces. the cars also very cool. definitely buy this. Quote
Matn Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 Woah, thanks for the great review! That's a very expensive set, sadly. But wow, what a magnificent set and parts it has. I really love the design of the two cars, but especially the minifigures do it for me. Definitely a must buy-set! Quote
WookieeWarrior Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 While it's not listed on the box, it's safe to say that it's Lao Che and his son Kao. Quote
hewkii9 Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I need one of those black suit torsos....*drools* Quote
samthelegoman1 Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 I love this set! *adds to wishlist* Quote
JimBee Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Thanks for the awesome review, and great pictures! This set is a must-buy for me. All of the new torsos and heads are beautiful, and I really like the newly dressed Indy. The cars are great as well, and really capture that 20's/ early 30's look. I don't really mind that cab piece, but would much rather have a brick-built cab. Also, I was hoping the gangsters would have those Tommy guns as seen in the prelim pics and Batman sets... But still this is on the top of my list. Quote
Athos Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Short Round looks like he's tweakin' Other than that the figures look good. Steve Quote
RoflWafls Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Shanghai Chase Right one looks like Leo Che while the left looks like the Joker Quote
ElisHelrot Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I love it and I want it, now ! I hope it comes out before Christmas Quote
Morgan19 Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I built the set last night and, although the figs and cars are all nice, I have a serious case of "was this worth it?"-itis. Choosing between this set and the flying wing was a no-brainer given this has (as of now) all-exclusive figs and is cheaper, but I have the overwhelming feeling that it's not worth the price it's at. Keep in mind that's from a purely emotional standpoint and not price-per-piece; it's literally the feeling that the end product just doesn't justify the price point. That being said, both cars are fun little creations but do lack a certain "something" in the designs that makes them look a little plain, especially the black one. The five unique minifigs are clearly the winners in the set- it's nice to finally have an official non-brown Indy. m19 Quote
Athos Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Right one looks like Leo Che while the left looks like the Joker I think the guy on the left is supposed to be the guy who fires the machine gun in the club. As I recall he had a crazy grin on his face. Steve Quote
legomaster08 Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Very interesting, i will ofcourse be getting that set, where did you get it from? - oh yeah i no it's a bit out of the blue but you could use willes new hair for Gilderoy Lockhart's in the Harry Potter series! Quote
Joebot Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Interesting that they went with yellow for blonde hair, rather than the previous tan. Daoudbazaar -- does the hair look bad if you put it on a regular yellow mini-fig head? I gotta think that will look weird, which means this particular hair piece is really only useful for flesh-colored minifigs. Which is, of course, a bummer. Quote
daoudbazaar Posted December 12, 2008 Author Posted December 12, 2008 The close-ups of the minifigs are beautiful, what type of camera do you have?Nikon D700 with AF-S VR 100mm macro lensIt's great to finally see Indy in a different outfit isn't it? Definitely !This is one of the best IJ sets so far in my oppinon.I do agree. I bought it twice... for heads, torsos, hairs and hats and tan pieces.1) what IS the price you paid for it? (you said it was cheap, so you know the price) EUR 34,99 2) what country are you from and what kind of store did you buy it at? I bought it in Kaufhof, Trier, Germany. Kaufhof shops can be found in any major german city. New IJ sets in Kaufhof Interesting that they went with yellow for blonde hair, rather than the previous tan. Daoudbazaar -- does the hair look bad if you put it on a regular yellow mini-fig head? Just try ! Quote
Batbrick Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 Awesome set review daoudbazaar! I really have to get two of this set. The figs are fantastic and perfectly suited for use in my Batman world. Love the gangsters, the black fedoras and awesome new suit prints are definitely worth another purchase alone. Their faces are also very cool, so evil! Willie is another fantastic fig, her dress will be of great use as a Gotham beauty or one for Talia. The double sided face is fantastic, and I love that hair, we definitely need more blonde hair. Short Round I'm indifferent on, but I'm sure his face will come in use. Awesome to see Indy with a new suit, I was hoping for a new face but we can't have it all can we? I'll definitely need two of that suit as well! The cars are simply superb. The 30-40's style will really lend itself to my Gotham and the tan vehicle will go greatly as Bruce Wayne's car. I really can't profees my love enough for the Indy vehicle designs but these are the best ones to me, so useful outside of the Indy theme despite how much I love the movies. Anyway, thanks again for the review, your photography and layouts are excellent! Batbrick Away! Quote
Derek Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 (edited) The figures from the entire line, especially this set, are just so amazingly and superbly detailed. I really can't wait until the summer sets when we could possibly see figures like Mola Ram, Thugees, Elsa, Kazim, and Cemetary Warrior(s) -darthperson Edited December 13, 2008 by darthperson Quote
Brickadier General Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Wow, thanks very much for posting this. I quite love the new figs, and even the new vehicles too!! I will have to eventually get this one. Quote
Skinny Boy Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Just got word from my parents in Germany, that they found this set and I'll be receiving it when they get home. I am extatic right now . Black fedora's Quote
Mr Spielbrick Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Fantastically detailed review of a fantastically detailed set, thanks very much! I'm going gaga over that mini Willie (no pun intended). She's probably my least favourite character from the old trilogy, but by Jove does she make for a sexy minifig! Indy's new tux is very pre-credits-sequence-Bond-in-Goldfinger, I love it! All those new faces! Black fedoras! Hey, wait a minute. I'm in heaven... so who killed me?! Quote
Jlblue Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Excellent set. Definitely a high chance of me buying that beauty. I have to ask, can I get a shot of Short Round's head sans hat? I can't quite make out what it looks like. Quote
