I've browsed around the forums and was unable to see if this topic was addressed but I was wondering if anyone was employed at the LEGO retail stores or LEGOLAND California and could shed some light on what kind of employee discount they receive. I've read that LEGOLAND California employees receive a 30% discount on products. I've mulled over paying the $11 a month to get a 10% discount on PAB and sets, but 30% would be well worth getting a part time job, if it was true. If anyone had an info on this, I'd really appreciate it. When I lived in Los Angeles I asked three employees at the Glendale LEGO Retail Store if they got a discount and each replied, "I guess, I'm not sure." What a waste :pir-classic: Thanks in advance.

I remember talking to a Legoland employee and vaguely recall something about a 'good discount'....

Sorry to be no help at all. :pir_laugh2:

A good friend of mine used to work at Lego in Billund, Denmark, there he and other workers got 50% discount. I wish he still was working for Lego... :pir_laugh2:

Yes, but Star Wars set and other licensed themes are often a bit less discounted. Employees can only buy sets for there own use, they are not allowed to buy for others.

The good thing is that Lego employees can find the "not so popular and 1-2 year old sets" with an extra discount.

I know nothing about Legoland/ Stores employee discounts, but if I had had the chance to work at one when I was younger, I definitely would have jumped at the chance. Even if the discount was "only 10%" - the chance to work and see (and possibly play with...) Lego items would have been too much of a benefit to ignore...

As it was, I was able to get 10% off of horse feed, bird feed, and farming supplies... :pir_bawling:

Heh, how can they check this? Do they randomly raid the employee's houses or something? "You bought the Café Corner last week, but I do not see it here! You didn't give it away, did you? You're fired!"

But I understand you mean that they can only use the discount on their own purchases. What happens to the sets after that can't really be controlled, can it?

Right. I figure if my really aggressive spending habits raised any eyebrows, I could simply flash a picture of my LEGO building room to prove myself.

Oh, and so everyone knows, I did have it confirmed that the LEGOLAND California discount is 30%. I don't know about the retail stores, but I'd say to anyone able to take on a part time job there it'd certainly be worth it.

Dear all,

30% discount.... :pir-oh:

I wish we would have had those Lego stores here in the Netherlands wenn I was looking for a part time job.

There are two Lego stores at 2 hours driving, right across the border in Germany. (in Koln and Oberhausen)

But that was not something I could consider for a part time job wenn I was younger.

Since I'm Dutch, anything outside cycling distance (yes we all cycle over here) is too far away. :pir-tongue:

(the Netherlands is one big traffic jam for cars anyway)

---<slightly of topic>----

I'm still puzzled why we don't have a Lego store in the Netherlands.

For example in the centrally located city of Utrecht (easy access by train from all mayor cities).

The fan base is verry large here (Legoworld Zwolle attracted 75,000 visitors in 2008), so I'm really puzzled.

Kind regards,

When I worked as christmas help in a toy store, I had a good employee discount that was comparable to those above. If you can't find work in a LEGO-brand store, try to find work in a regular toy store that sells LEGO. It won't have the exclusives, but is a good second-best option.

I'm sure they have limits on how much they can buy, and I have to think that limits in place that prohibit the purchase of any more than one of the same set. Also, sets like star wars are likely not discounted much if at all.

Hi,

When I was younger, I had friends who had an aunt who worked for lego, and she got them lots of sets for half price.

They also have mostly licensed theme sets , and in multiple cases more than one of each set.

Hope that helps.
