Phaz-Ing Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Is there any particular reason why Lego's 'horse' mold has been the same throughout the last two decades? I mean--its a good design, but it would be better if they redesigned it like they redesigned the dragons. Perhaps the horses would work really well if they allowed it more articulation than just its head. Quote
Sir Dano Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Why mess with a good thing? I love the current horse design, if they changed it, it would piss me off very much. Quote
Guss Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I totally agree with Sir Dano, the actual horses are perfect, I just don't need another design^^ Quote
Sandy Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I don't think the horses are "perfect", they're just a classic piece that people feel nostalgic towards. I'm not opposed to changing them, but the new mold would have to be better and more versatile than the old - plus the old saddles and bardings should fit it, too. But this is unlikely to happen in the first place. If you want another steed for your minifigs in the near future, there's the new cow piece coming up next year. Quote
KimT Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 The new cow mold compared to the horse is "off". For the cows and horses to go together I think we need a new horse with articulated muscles like the cow has. Either that or they have to change the cow into a more classic look like the horse. Quote
UsernameMDM Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I wish the new cow looked like the horse. Oh well, at least we are getting a cow! Quote
KimT Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I wish the new cow looked like the horse. Me too. Or vice versa. That the new cow would look like the (new) horse. Quote

Sandy Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I wish the new cow looked like the horse. Then it wouldn't be a cow anymore, but a horse. Quote
Kakihara Smile Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 The old horse works but it could definantly be improved upon. I like the old horse alot but if they could add more articulation, I'd be all for a new design. The new cow... Pure love. Quote
darkagent Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 In the latest issue of BrickJournal, they have an interview with the man who designed the Lego horse. He said that the current horse right now is actually the wrong one. It came down to two of his designs, he placed the "best" one on his boss's desk. Facing the deadline for submission, the boss didn't know the "best" horse design was on his desk and went down to this guys desk and grabbed the other horse design. Quote

Is there a pic on what the ´right´ one looked like? Quote
darkagent Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Is there a pic on what the ´right´ one looked like? Unfortunately no. It says in the article that he still has the 'right' prototype to this day, but he's happy with the one produced too. Quote
SWMAN Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 I really like the design. I think the old dragon design was bad and needed an upgrade, but the horse is nice. Leg articulation might be nice, but that would make them hard to stand up. Quote
Zepher Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 If you want another steed for your minifigs in the near future, there's the new cow piece coming up next year. Great idea Sandy, i think i may try that, If i can get to it before you! Quote
Raven Brickroft Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 If you want another steed for your minifigs in the near future, there's the new cow piece coming up next year. Hell yeah!! Bovine Cavalry!! But yeah, I like the horses now. Why fix something not broken? Quote
Sandy Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I just wanted to add that it would be nice to see other color variation of the horse in the future as well. Grey, spotted and orange horses come to mind first. I'm glad to own both of the special printed Indian horses, they go well with any nature-related faction, such as elves. Quote
