Is there any particular reason why Lego's 'horse' mold has been the same throughout the last two decades? I mean--its a good design, but it would be better if they redesigned it like they redesigned the dragons. Perhaps the horses would work really well if they allowed it more articulation than just its head.

I don't think the horses are "perfect", they're just a classic piece that people feel nostalgic towards. I'm not opposed to changing them, but the new mold would have to be better and more versatile than the old - plus the old saddles and bardings should fit it, too. But this is unlikely to happen in the first place.

If you want another steed for your minifigs in the near future, there's the new cow piece coming up next year.

The new cow mold compared to the horse is "off".

For the cows and horses to go together I think we need a new horse with articulated muscles like the cow has.

Either that or they have to change the cow into a more classic look like the horse.

I thought the same when I first saw them. I personally like Brickforge's cows over TLC's.

In the latest issue of BrickJournal, they have an interview with the man who designed the Lego horse. He said that the current horse right now is actually the wrong one. It came down to two of his designs, he placed the "best" one on his boss's desk. Facing the deadline for submission, the boss didn't know the "best" horse design was on his desk and went down to this guys desk and grabbed the other horse design.

Is there a pic on what the ´right´ one looked like?

Unfortunately no. It says in the article that he still has the 'right' prototype to this day, but he's happy with the one produced too.

I really like the design. I think the old dragon design was bad and needed an upgrade, but the horse is nice. Leg articulation might be nice, but that would make them hard to stand up.

I just wanted to add that it would be nice to see other color variation of the horse in the future as well. Grey, spotted and orange horses come to mind first.

I'm glad to own both of the special printed Indian horses, they go well with any nature-related faction, such as elves.
