dr_spock Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Hmm... I would, but about all there'd be is Star Wars and Indy. I have Star Wars and Town plus some Technic. Quote
tedbeard Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 I'd like to know what the best Lego store in Toronto is...Any toy store in Detroit would be better than any store in Canada. Why? Because the $Cdn is basically at par with the $US making LEGO in Canada 25-30% more expensive. Last time this happened they gave us excuses and even beat down Wally-World, the only retail chain to complain. This time some economists are saying the rate may not go down for a couple of years. For the foreseeable future I will not be buying new LEGO in Canada and will be telling all my family and friends not to buy new LEGO in Canada either if they can avoid it. Quote

Thankfully I live 10min from the border and then only another 20min from Bellingham, I dont buy anything in Canada anymore I've been buying gas down there for about the last three months, milk, cheese, bread, meat, almost everything is 20-30% less (I can and have used the savings to buy lego for the kids... ya, for the kids) Quote

Now the only place for Lego at bellingham is probably at Target in Bellis Fair Mall and a walmart. The closest Lego store (very small) is down the border is in Washington Seeatle at the Bellevue mall. Quote
tedbeard Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Wow! That's crazy. I've got to tell my cousin that lives in Windsor to start doing that too. Gotta watch it however as you might get dinged for duty if you are out of Canada less than 24 hours. I understand Target is a pretty good place to buy LEGO in the US but I live in Victoria which means I save up and buy like crazy at the Bellevue LEGO store when I go to BrickCon in October. It's not really possible to hop across the border and pick up some LEGO. Although if they ever get a Target in Port Angeles... Maybe I'll see some of you in Seattle in October? Quote
lowbike1 Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 (edited) I was at the Bellevue store a couple weeks ago, its was everything I hoped for and more managed to pack 844 pieces into a large cup, got a keychain, salt and pepper shakers, minifigure headlamp, and the flashlight keychain, I bought a creator set (the yellow cabin/cafe/apartment building) @ target in Bellevue as well for $28.99 (Lego store was $34.99) The walmart in Bellingham has a pretty decent selection, and the prices are all msrp I'm fully intending on going to BrickCon this yr, I had planned to go last yr but my cousins kids birthday party unfortunatly happened on the same day... Bringing goods back into Canada really depends on the border guard and the value of the goods, I rarely bring home more than $50 worth of stuff @ a time, so its not worth their time to send you in for the few dollars they can tax/charge you duty for, and since 99% of the time I only bring back groceries they cant charge me tax or duty anyway, I save about $15 a tank on gas, plus milk and cheese is less than 1/2 price and now with an even higher dollar I'll be able to save even more Edited April 15, 2010 by lowbike1 Quote
vmln8r Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Thanks for the responses everyone. We'll be in Canada for a few days around June. I might get something as a souvenir, it's no big deal. So the only way to get exclusives is either from the US or S@H? 'Cause getting something like the Imperial Flagship from Canada still works out a lot cheaper than from New Zealand. Quote

I wish I could help you by ordering one for you, but my parents won't let me. Maybe ask some other members if you really want an Imperial Flagship from here. Quote

I shudder every time I think of you guys Down Under and the premium you pay. I whine because we are right next door and S@H Canada is serviced from the same physical warehouse/offices as S@H USA. I don't know if I could afford LEGO as a hobby if I lived in New Zealand. Sets like the Imperial Flagship almost never appear in stores in Canada and we have no LEGO brand stores yet. If you are coming through Victoria (unlikely I know) I'd be happy to act as your "shipping location". Edited April 15, 2010 by tedbeard Quote

The IF should be released by June in NZ so I'll probably wait for a sale pick and up that way. At least we can get it from a physical shop! S@H shipping is horrendous. I hope the situation in Canada changes. Perhaps TLG could have gotten away with things like this before the internet, but not now Thanks Prateek, no worries Quote

Which part of Canada are you visiting? S@H for Canada sometimes doesn't carry everything, i.e. the 8258 Crane Truck. I have to move closer to the U.S. border. Quote
lowbike1 Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 we have no LEGO brand stores yet. My wife was @ the Dallas store and one of the employees told her that there is supposed to be a Lego store/PAB coming to Vancouver , Calgary and Toronto... No ETA though Quote

There has never been a store owned by LEGO in Canada. What you're thinking of is Toy Building Zone, which happens to only sell LEGO. Quote
