AriGold Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 So has anyone here been to the new Lego store in Calgary? If so do they have a Pick-a-Brick? How much does it cost? Hey MacK, The PaB wall cups have the Canadian Lego mark-up so they charge $20 for a large cup, 50 cents off if you bring in your old cup. The wall is pretty pathetic for element choices in my opinion. Some standard elements and lots of wheels, windows for cars, etc. stuff not so great for MOC'ing. The rest of the store is like any standard Lego store, no new Summer star wars sets, all the new castle sets (impulse to army to the large castle, they even have a lot of Market village) Ari Quote
Ricecracker Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) Just thought I'd let everyone know that at least some Chapters/Indigo stores are carrying the Collectible Minifigs. I bought most of a box on Friday, and they said that they had some more in the back. Edited July 13, 2010 by Ricecracker Quote

Ari I think the focus was primarily on standard brick and plate in the wide assortment of colours. True, it's not quite the assortment of unique elements found in the LEGOLand stores but would not expect this to be a focus on their first go-round. I figure in time we will start to see bulk tile and plants once the PaB wall "matures". Quote

Ricecracker Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 The TRU at Yonge and Eglinton is undergoing renovation/construction, so some parts of the store are re-organized. The Lego section is the same size and is in the same spot, it just might be a little more confusing to get to. Quote
prateek Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 They did that a couple months ago at the Victoria Park and Lawrence one too. Now the Lego is beside the video game section, so there is a lot more space for Lego now. The only downside is that there aren't any fancy decorations that say Lego, and the giant minifig on top of the shelf. Quote

Gunship? Quote
winbrant Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Do they have the wires from the Podrace sets, the big boulder, and the big angles pieces in the Rep. Gunship? Nope. AriGold Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Well, I took my three nephews to the grand opening of the Lego store Chinook and it was mass pandemonium inside and outside the store. The master builder had a lego trivia for damaged boxes of large sets, my one nephew won an AAT. And just when he was coming to ask my other nephew what theme came before power miners, and as I told him the answer, i guess i said it too loudly. The lady beside me heard me and told her son and thus he won that set. (oh well) He also asked another question for a new Fire Brigade, the question was, in what city did he design a lego room for the tv show extreme home makeover? I wanted that set, but could not google it fast enough as I did not know the answer. There was an hour long wait to just get in the store along with another half hour wait to get to the cashier. One worker said that so far they were only behind the New York Lego store opening for total sales. (though this cannot be verified) The special today was a duplo brick with the store opening on it and a picture of Buzz lightyear. Anyways, I am heading back to the store on Sat to get a special set to the first 300 customers that spend over $35. No new Star wars sets either, which has me down, since that is what I am waiting for. Ari Quote

Stash2Sixx Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Pretty sweet that Canada finally has a store. I'm guessing you guys will all b e getting things about the same time we do here in the states. A little note on PAB though...give it a few weeks, and then eventually find out who the person is in charge of the PAB. When new stores open, they like to keep everything simple and keep the PAB on auto-replenishment. That means when they inventory out a box of something, another box of something is sent. As stores begin to function more on their own and employees know what they are doing, whoever is in charge of PAB can start to request specific items from what is available. Online and instore PAB are different though, so don't get overly excited yet. And Legonater, hoses and boulder pieces haven't been seen in a PAB wall since...? 6x8 ramps were available in Blue and Black, but I haven't seen them in almost a year. Be specific too, helps others know what you are talking about. Quote

That's too bad- I was hoping to get some white 6x8s so I can have 'two' Republic Gunships (I still have the sticker sheet from the latest one) I forget, do we have any news of when (or if) we'll be seeing a LEGO store in Manitoba? Ricecracker Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I forget, do we have any news of when (or if) we'll be seeing a LEGO store in Manitoba? No more stores in Canada have been announced yet. The Calgary store is testing a new market for Canada, so don't expect a new store anytime soon, and honestly, I doubt Manitoba will be getting one anytime soon after that... Besides, if there is a new store opening in Canada, it'll be big news here, remember when we first heard about the Calgary store? Quote
AriGold Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 So After visiting the Lego store again today to see what the grand opening day special was (a horseback riding cowboy) I got to talking to the store manager from Disneyland who is up helping out for the weekend and here is what he told me. Vancouver is going to get the next Lego Store. No idea what mall or where in Vancouver. Again, this is direct from the manager of teh Disneyland lego store. Take it for what its worth. Looks like Lego is trying for a west coast invasion first. Ari Quote

Sir Fred Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Well I suppose it's nice that we're getting more Lego stores, but when are us East coast people going to get some love? Ari, could you get a picture of the special promo item? I'm just curious what it looks like. Quote

AriGold Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 I am going back again today when they finish off the 8 ft buzz light year and that is when they have another trivia callenge for some real big sets, no idea on what sets they are giving away, but so far they have given away a Green grocer, a venator, a fire brigade etc. So I will find that guy again and ask him if he knows the timeline on the opening of the Lego Store in Vancouver and the place they intend to open it. Again, for those BC members, I am only passing on info that the manager of the Disneyland Lego store has told me. (It is not set in stone until we get confirmation from Lego) But I will try to dig a little further for you. Ari Quote

LOL I'm in Toronto and I'm kinda shocked that Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal didn't get the first LEGO store, considering how large the markets are. With that said though, I had figured that the SECOND store would be in the east, instead of another in the west. The closest LEGO store here is a nine-hour drive (one way) across the border...and I don't have a car! LOL I've made a pest of myself with LEGO, asking on many different occassions exactly when Toronto is going to get a LEGO store so, hopefully, they know that there IS some interest here. It really irks me though, seeing FOUR different LEGO stores in and around Chicago, with similar patterns across the U.S. (New York area for example) and here in Canada we FINALLY get ONE friggin' store...and it's half a country away from me. *sigh* We Canadians get boned on the stores the same way we get boned on the pricing. Too bad I'm addicted to brick. LOL! Well I suppose it's nice that we're getting more Lego stores, but when are us East coast people going to get some love? Ari, could you get a picture of the special promo item? I'm just curious what it looks like. I had hoped that Canada's largest city (Toronto) would have received the first store but, no such luck. Anybody have ANY idea why they picked CALGARY as their first choice? Seems so odd to me. Quote
