Jeff VW Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Hello Jeff, I was just curious if the display would be open for visitors to tour? On the OBB blog page it looked to me like visitors could only view it through the store window. Thanks, Bel Yes, it will only be viewable from the windows. When we set everything up we tried to tier it so that everything is viewable. We had considered opening it up fur viewing but the room is pretty full, and there is not a lot of room to walk around. I hope you get a chance to check it out. Jeff VW Quote
IAmWillGibson Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I know I'm not making some staggering new argument here, and I'm sure it's been discussed before, and if someone could direct me to a satisfactory answer, thanks. But I'm too incensed right now to go digging through the forums. But why, dammit, why in an age where we're so close to parity all the time are LEGO sets so much more expensive in Canada than in the US? I'm looking at the fun new Kingdoms stuff, and the mind-blowingly rad Alien stuff, and then am saddened by the giant, inexplicable cost difference. Blargh!! Ahh, vent complete. Quote

tedbeard Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 import duties transportation distribution taxes wages market size profit margin competition Way too overcomplicated. Correct answer: Because they can. Seriously, it's all PR and smoke blown up you-know-where. Canadians are too polite to make a fuss so they do whatever they can get away with. That is Capitalism after all. Quote
sok117 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Yeah, it's definitely just a because I can thing, If you go by that logic, then the US should have the same prices because lego isn't made there either. It's outrageous IMO especially when looking at SW sets, those are price increases. But theres not much one can do about it, so theres no point arguing it, but it helps to just say something and have someone agree with you. Quote
legomaniac83 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Looks like we need to do a Lego Road Trip! Seriously, if anyone is heading to the US I will gladly send you my want list Quote

Jeff VW Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Nah, I have looked at the mall site every week and there has been nothing for any Lego store jobs. The only note about the store is that it is coming soon (spring). Every other store hiring has postings on the website, however. Plus, a company usually uses muliple sources/sites to post jobs (Workopolis, Job Bank, etc.), so keeping it just to the mall website would hinder the hiring process. I am just thinking that maybe it isn't an actual Lego Store, but a store like the one in St. Jacobs or Lasting Toys, that sell Lego exclusivly, but aren't a "Lego" brand store. See where I am going with this? No need to guess anymore, This is an official Lego store. http://www.jobsatlego.com/ca/toronto/view-all/assistant-manager-lego-brand-retail-toronto-jobs :) Jeff VW Quote

On a side note, I was in a WM today and found both 3847 & 3840 Lego games for $8 each. They were on a clearance shelve in the main aisle. Happy shopping! Quote
dr_spock Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 I didn't know Lego conducts drug testing: We conduct drug screening as a part of our drug free workplace policy and in support of our commitment to the health and safety of our employees. Road trip? Who's driving to BrickWorld? Quote

Ogre Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Was at Chapters (Scarborough's "Kennedy Commons" location) the other day and they had series 3 figures there. One box on the counter up front and then a bin full of figs in the "kids" section right in front of the cash register. At first, I was a bit bummed over the elimination of bar codes, changes in dots, etc., etc., but I picked out fifteen figures and when I got home, they were EXACTLY what I thought they were. 15/15! An easy trick for picking out the cyborg (in case anybody was wondering): feel the legs of the figs you think might be the cyborg, or alien...if it's two normal legs, it's the alien, if there's a peg leg, you've got a cyborg. =) Quote
prateek Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Yay! Now I can go get some figs with my Chapters gift card Quote
IAmWillGibson Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 Canadians, has there ever been an official LEGO Mountie Minifigure? I was at the local TRU, and on the display there was a big picture of one, and it made me realize how much I'd love one or a few. The elements are there, certainly. We'd just need a properly printed torso. Seeing as how there's an official LEGO recognition of the design at least somewhere in the system, I'm sort of holding out hope that something like this might pop up at the LEGO store opening in Toronto. But there is nothing real yet. Quote

I'm cross-posting this into this thread because it has to do with Canadians, too. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52378 I read here: http://www.bricksnorth.com/ That BricksNorth will be "coming soon" to Canada. This was posted in the summer of 2010. Is there any news regarding this event? Locutis Quote
IAmWillGibson Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 What TRU Location was this at? Jeff VW I saw it specifically at the TRU in the Dufferin Mall in Toronto. It's not an actual figure, or a picture of one, either, but rather a CG version like LEGO uses all the time now. It's cool, while also being a tease of a figure that does not, as yet, currently exist. Quote
sok117 Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice The first Lego Store in Toronto is opening in Sherway Gardens, which is right in my area, and I was thinking of applying for a job there. This would be my second job and I am entering grade 11 this year, do you guys think it would be a good idea to mention my love for lego? I don't want them to think I'm just looking for the job to get a store discount (though that is a nice bonus ) but I do think it would be the best possible place for me to work. So what do you guys think? Quote

A reference from your first employer would probably be more useful if you're really interested in landing the position. Quote

Yea, I've got references from the paper route I used to do, and the camp where i was an LIT (leader in training) but wouldn't it look good if I knew a lot about the product in question? This is what originally thought , I'm still not sure if its a good idea or a bad idea though, my gut is telling me that the employer would want someone who knows about the product athand, but I don't want to come off as a know-it-all type.
