prateek Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 The Canadian border patrol is the most laid back border patrol I've ever seen. The fastest time I've clocked passing the border was less than 2 minutes! Quote
LEGO Humor Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I'm moving to Canada soon! My dad got a job in Edmonton, Alberta, so soon I'll be living there. Question: is it possible to drive down to the US from Canada without an American visa? I'm excited to get to live there. Anyone from Edmonton here? Quote
The Legonater Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 wasn't there a dot system? To feel them out, I say r4-g4 has got the right idea, usually the shields are easy to feel for if you bend the package to feel the sides of the shield, you should be able to run your fingers across the entire outline and make the shape perfectly. For the rapper, go for feeling the boombox, just a thick block, but make sure you feel the handle too, cause you may confuse it with a pair of legs. hope this helps! Yeah, I saw the dot system, but I'm a little confused by it. Quote

And for the border situation, I'm sure you'd need a visa if you don't have a Canadian passport. Just wait 5 years and you'll have one At least you won't get as shafted on Lego prices as you do in Mexico Quote

If you are still a citizen of Mexico and not a citizen of Canada, then the US visa requirements will most likely still apply unless you are also a citizen of a country in the visa waiver program. Best to check with the US Embassy before your trip into the US. http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1260.html#3 Quote

My family will be given temporary resident visas, and apparently after the first year we can apply for permanent resident visas. As for the prices here, it's a nightmare! The Harry Potter sets and the Jan. Star Wars wave just showed up here. All the sets are triple the price or more! I was able to snag the elf from Minifig. Series 3 for 39 pesos yesterday, which is about the same as the price in the US. That's the first time I've seen LEGOs at the right price in Mexico Thanks for the help! Quote

And don't forget there is a LEGO-brand store 3 hours to the south of Edmonton at Chinook Centre, in Calgary. And from there it would take another 5-6 hours to reach a modest US city for retail items (Great Falls, Montana). Check in with NALUG, which is the Edmonton local AFOL group...they do a number of events up there. I'm in Calgary and we have SALUG, of which one of our major events coming up is Supertrain in mid April! w. Quote
legomaniac83 Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 (edited) Picked up the Series 4 figs today!!! Found them at WM at Burnhamthorpe/Erin Mills Dr. in Mississauga. Managed to get a complete set plus extras of rocker and Hazmat guy all by the feel method. They were $3.28 (a price increase of .20) and they had around 8 boxes. Also checked the WM Supercentre at Mavis/Britannia but they had none on the shelves yet. Happy Hunting! Edited March 22, 2011 by legomaniac83 Quote

Also checked the WM Supercentre at Mavis/Britannia but they had none on the shelves yet. Happy Hunting! I noticed this as well. . I really wish the prices had stayed at $2.86, but I guess that this isn't all that surprising. I'm sure the price will rise at S@H once series 4 is released there. I've managed to acquire everything but a Surfer, Scientist and a Werewolf. I just couldn't figure out how to find the Scientist or Werewolf by feel. I'll probably head back tomorrow with the dot code and see if my luck improves. Quote
sok117 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 series 4 already? I was just at a toysrus today, I don't remember seeing them, but I didn't really pay attention to the section there usually in... Ohh the humanity!!!! Quote
legomaniac83 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 I just couldn't figure out how to find the Scientist or Werewolf by feel. To be honest, the Scientist was the hardest for me too. The vile is the giveaway, though. Also his hair is not a hard mold, it is soft which makes it hard to feel. As for the Werewolf, it all about finding the bone. Dead giveaway. Good luck! Quote

Canada_7 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 (edited) prateek, you asked about whereabouts the series 4 minifigs are @ Agincourt Walmart in the series 4 discussion thread: they're in the same Lego section on the shelf in the toys section. Though to be fair this is the first time I've seen this particular Walmart have any of the collectable minifigures (never saw Series 1-3 in that location). Also, if anyone is interested, I found the 3222 Helicopter and Limousine set on clearance for $30 (regular $40). Just after new year this set was put on clearance for $30 but there was no Walmart location that I could find this set (I had not seen the set for weeks prior to them putting it on clearance way back then). I thought it was as good as gone considering it was a store specific special edition (only available at Walmart). Luckily enough I found one yesterday when getting the series 4 minifigs. Used a $20 Walmart giftcard that I had to sweeten it down to $10. There's still 2 or 3 sets left after I bought one. Edited March 22, 2011 by Canada_7 Quote
Isaac5 Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 Oh my gosh, this is seriously a real topic?? I can not bear to read this. Have any of you seen the movie Canadian Bacon? Funny, but racist against Canadians, I wonder what you guys think about it. Are you guys just annoyed by the whole thing of jokes about Canada, or do you just find it silly? Quote

Funny, but racist against Canadians, I wonder what you guys think about it. Are you guys just annoyed by the whole thing of jokes about Canada, or do you just find it silly? Why can't you bear to read this, or why would you need to? I haven't seen that movie so I don't know how I feel about it, but I really don't care much for what Americans think of me. I see it as just silly, hockey is not my favourite sport and I don't live in an igloo. But don't worry there is quite a few American jokes in Canada. Quote

ZO6 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 This is a review of Canadian Bacon taken from IMDB, I think it sums things up pretty well: "I don't usually write reviews, but I feel compelled. Just read through the user comments on Canadian Bacon here and I'm chuckleing. Not only is this movie subtly hilarious, its nearly perfect as so many people are only contributing to the joke. I recall sitting in a hostel in Switzerland on a trip across Europe, and listening to two American guys drinking and talking to two Austrailians. They were telling them about this hilarious movie called Canadian Bacon that did such a great job of making fun of how stupid and dumb Canadians are. Which only makes the movie better, because it is so obviously, once you are in the know, a satire of America and particularly it's arrogant/ignorant (take your pick) stereotypes of Canada. Truly, with every scathing review stating "This movie is a waste of time as it makes obvious stabs at Canada. That country should be insulted and the joke gets old." No, the joke only gets better with every American reviewer who doesn't get it, pushing it that much closer to a truly inspired masterpiece." With that out of the way, I believe this should be dropped before some sort of flame war erupts. Now onto a Lego related note - has anyone spotted/know when the Technic Super car will be hitting store shelves? Quote

Are you guys just annoyed by the whole thing of jokes about Canada, or do you just find it silly? Actually I found Canadian Bacon to be hilarious and I love Canadian jokes. My favorite is the OPP officer played by Dan Ackroyd doing a riff on the Monty Python Life of Brian scene but on the side of a truck instead of the forum. How I Met Your Mother is currently the best source of ridiculous Canadian jokes "Oh, noo, I'm afraid of the dark, eh?" The best part is that most of the these kind of jokes are written by Canadians or people who like us and, as noted above, are often subtle digs at our American cousins and their attitudes about Canadians and our differences. BTW, please be more careful using the word "racist". Canadian is not a race it is a nationality In the same way Muslim is not a race it is a religion it is important to use the correct term. Quote

Canada_7 Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 (edited) Series 4 minifigs have also been spotted at the Scarborough Town Centre Walmart. They have a bunch that are hung on hooks, and then about another 2.5 cases on the shelf. Not in the Lego aisle, but in the aisle beside it. None seen at Eglinton/Warden Walmart (at least for now). blueandwhite Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 While this isn't news per se, the Toronto LEGO store at Sherway has been listed in the news section on LEGO's store site. I guess that makes it as official as it gets. Quote
Canada_7 Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) May 5th will be the 'soft' opening If May 5th is the soft opening, do you have any news as to what's happening on April 21st? The Sherway Gardens website has something listed on April 21st for the Lego store but all it says is keep watching this page for updates. http://www.sherwaygardens.ca/en/custom/Pages/TheLEGOStoreatSherway.aspx Edited March 24, 2011 by Canada_7 Quote
IAmWillGibson Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 I stalked the two local Walmarts yesterday and bupkis [Runnymead and the Duff]. I hafta say, I'm sorta paranoid about this series for some reason. I think I was spoiled rotten on the last wave. Quote
Ogre Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 (edited) As posted in the 'Series 4' topic: Mastermind Toys price in their system for series four minifigures will be $3.49CDN per figure. My wife called this morning and got the price. Not able to tell her the release date though. So, basically, if you can, snag them at Wal-Mart for cheaper. Edited March 24, 2011 by Ogre Quote
