Canada_7 Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) Just got back from the LEGO store myself. It's awesome watching Dads rekindle their interest in LEGO in front of their families. I don't remember the exact sets, but there were a number of large Technic sets, Power Miners and Creator. There were more, but I don't want to tell you something they don't have... Alright, thank you for spreading news of the sale and info anyway. How can they say better than expected when the store has only been open for essentially a couple weeks? That's crazy. The plan must already have been in motion as these things usually take over a year to plan out... Mind you...I'm not complaining, as I could make that one at lunch!! Woohoo! I could become the King of the PAB inventory update!! I agree...I mean they can't be basing this just on the crowds they drew from the grand opening can they? It would be expected that the grand opening would draw big crowds. Of course, I wouldn't mind having one at Faarview though as it's a MUCH easier commute for me. Edited May 22, 2011 by Canada_7 Quote
prateek Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Right by your school? Vanier? I went to Vanier, even though my folks moved me out to Scarberia before the end of grade ten. I preferred the bus ride over going to ACI. LOL! Not Vanier. I don't think I want to reveal too much on the internet... Quote
Ricecracker Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Alright, thank you for spreading news of the sale and info anyway. No problem. If there's a specific set you're looking for, PM me, and I'll check. I agree that it seems a little premature, but the store was packed yesterday, though the rest of the mall wasn't. Anyway, here's a quick Excel sheet I made from my PaB cup yesterday, and you can see some of what they have available. PaB/Bricklink/S@H Comparison by Ricecracker., on Flickr Quote
dr_spock Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Fairview will be much easier to get to. TTC and all that. Quote
Toadtorrent Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) I cross posted over on the PAB thread, but thought it would be relevant to post here too. Here is my PAB cup from last week: From Ricecracker's post, it looks like the selection hasn't really changed much. I remember those pieces in his load. I might hold off on going back for awhile...but some more lime 1x2 tiles and r-brown 1x4 tiles are calling...yeah I realize my sub-totalling is off on the PAB amount...too lazy to correct for $0.20 over-calculation...but I was going for a theoretical price per piece based on the flat rate cup price. Ogre Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I agree that it seems a little premature, but the store was packed yesterday, though the rest of the mall wasn't. I noticed the same thing. The rest of the mall was a ghost town, with most stores only having employees inside (this was between 10am and 11am on Saturday) but, the LEGO store was PACKED. Lots of kids and lots of adults (including obvious AFOLs 'feeling up' the series three and four minifigs ). Fairview will be much easier to get to. TTC and all that. Sherway Gardens can be reached by TTC as well (subway to Royal York and grab the #15 Evans Rd. bus, or subway to Kipling and grab the #123C...the #15 runs more often on Saturday but, the #123C is closer to the mall, so it's a toss up), unfortunately, commuting from the opposite end of the city takes it's toll, both in time and 'numb butt syndrome'. IAmWillGibson Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 BOGO Sales are the stank; or, a Tale of Woe So anyways, Zellers is currently [until today, maybe?] having a Buy 1, Get 1 50% off sale on all LEGO, as far as I can tell. Which in theory is nice. But when I get my greasy little heart set on finally getting the Bank and Money Transfer [3661] and I get to the store and there it is, and wouldn't you know it... I can not for the life of me find another set that I have any desire for. The one I want is expensive [65 bucks] and for BOGOs to work, you need to get a second one at or near the same cost, and there is literally nothing else. And I am sad. Why don't you carry the City Corner [7641], Zellers?! Why?! Those would be two sets I'd get during this sale. Zellers gets a decent [not great, but decent] sale, but their selection sucks to the max. Agh, such are my woes. I'm starting to think I should have gotten two 3661s and just sold the second one. Quote

Yeah it's tough to take maximum advantage of those sales if there isn't a second set you like. Zellers' selection varies, depending on which you go to. There are some that have very little crap selection at all while some are pretty decent. I personally took advantage of the deal by buying 4183 The Mill and 8486 Mack's Team Truck, both of which regularly retail for $50. I had to go to multiple Zellers' locations before I finally found ONE location that had BOTH the POTC sets and Cars sets. Quote
appleb Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Fairview is a much better location than Sherway. It's immediately accessible from the two busiest highways (400 and 401), and it has an actual subway stop so transit riders can actually get there. Yes you can get to Sherway via bus, but TTC buses are notoriously slow and unreliable. I don't think Toronto is big enough to support two LEGO stores. They should've opened at Fairview in the first place. Quote

See, none of the ones I've been to had any POTC out, or else I may have pulled the crazy-trigger and gotten the Queen Anne's Revenge along with the [half-priced] City Bank. Nertz! Quote

Canada_7 Posted May 27, 2011 Posted May 27, 2011 (edited) So ToysRUs is having 20% off Lego Creator and some other discount for this week. The sale starts tomorrow/today (May 27th). Now, some of he bigger sets are listed as Creator on he TRU website. Stuff like Grand Emporium, Shuttle Adventure, Tower Bridge. Now they're slow in actually applying the discount on the website. The sale hasn't even been activated yet on their site but the Grand Emporium and Shuttle Adventure are already magically out of stock after 1 minute. Bullsh*t. I wish I had screencapped that. Don't have any shots of it in stock prior to 12 though but it was definitely in stock. Here's a shot of not too long after 12am EST...the discount hasn't even kicked in on the website yet somehow Grand Emporium and Shuttle Adventure are out of stock. Way to go TRU. **** you. EDIT: Surprise, suprise...now the sale has started and you can also add the Maersk Train to the list of OOS items PRIOR to the sale even starting. Edited May 27, 2011 by Canada_7 Quote

Medieval Market Village is on there for 20% off... That's pretty tempting. Also, Tower Bridge is apparently in stock, as are the two Winter Village sets. I... may have just spent a bunch of money on them. Edited May 27, 2011 by IAmWillGibson Quote

I'm really only over on the west end when I'm going to Buffalo, NY area. Edited May 27, 2011 by Rook Quote

Toadtorrent Posted May 28, 2011 Posted May 28, 2011 Centre of the mall. Built Friday, Saturday, Sunday and ripped apart after photo shoot. See Photobucket images. I did the build with my 2 kids...didn't stand in line to make a purchase to get the commemorative brick...but thought they would have it displayed somewhere permanently...too bad. On these big builds, do they usually just build and tear down, never to see the model again? Thanks for the update, BTW... Quote

Chicago has something like, what, FOUR stores? Plus the Discovery Centre? Yeah, I think Toronto (3 million+ people) can handle more than ONE store. I'm gonna miss my Bridlewood Mall Zellers... Good memories (not really ) I miss the old Woodside Square Zellers more than I'll miss the Bridlewood one. Always had fewer crowds and a better selection of LEGO. I'm TOTALLY stoked that Target is coming to Bridlewood though. Well, I WILL be totally stoked IF they stock those 'Target only' polybags! If they don't, I'm going to be PISSED! Quote
