ZO6 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 (edited) I got Squidman's Pitstop at the TRU in Newmarket at the Upper Canada Mall. I've been going there every week for the past couple months to check up on new releases. As of Saturday, June 27th - all the new Castle sets, Agents 2.0, Power Miners (including the Mining Station which I believe they just got in that day), ... actually it might be easier to list what they did NOT have yet: newest Indiana Jones, Galactic Enforcer, Hyperspeed Pursuit, Max Security Transport, newest Star Wars, + some other stuff. For the most part that TRU has an amazing selection and usually gets new stuff in reasonably quickly. They just got Pitstop and Mining Station in on the 27th, and there were some empty spaces on the shelves, so I would not be surprised if more new sets were unpacked either later that day (I went there soon after they opened in the morning) or since then. From what I remember the empty spaces were in the Space Police and Power Miners area. I'll report on any new findings next time I stop in at that TRU. If you have any questions, let me know Edited June 29, 2009 by ZO6 Quote
prateek Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 thanks for the info. if you can, can you check if they have 8169 lamborghini Quote

They have a great selection, and are usually very current. Places like Walmart have all but given up, having only a pitiful selection. The Bay is good for finding older sets, but they seem to be phasing out their toy depts. Quote
Millacol88 Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 I'm pretty much given up on local stores like Wal-mart and Zellers. They have the worst selection imaginable. The nearest TRU to me is still an hour and a half away, so I'll probably just start ordering my sets off S@H. The added shipping cost isn't to bad, and its worth it to know they always have the sets you want. Quote
Bartram Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 What about Bricklink? Try ordering from there. Quote
prateek Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 What about Bricklink? Try ordering from there. but then the exchange rates mess up the prices and make the sets waaay more expensive than they should be Quote
Bartram Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Well you can look at Canadian stores, even classified according to province. So there wouldn't really be any exchange rates to deal with, as most of the sellers would be Canadian. Quote

Bricklink is good for figs and parts that can't be bought on PAB, but for sets that are still produced, S@H is the best option for me. Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 thanks for the info. if you can, can you check if they have 8169 lamborghini "The Lemborghini, then? Much more subtle..." Found most of the new castle at my TRU, and purchased it. Has anyone heard what happened to the Lego outlet near Cookstown, ON? Quote

Wednesdayware, If you're ever in the Airdrie area check out a store called The Store Upstairs located in downtown Airdrie, apx. Centre Ave and 1st St. SW...right above the Pharmaprix on the corner. They have a selection of both older and newer LEGO and are priced at MSRP! When I first discovered them 2 years ago (having moved to Airdrie and not having a TRU close by) I found even train cars and some old Legends Sets (10041 - Main Street) and discontinued sets (Enzo Ferrari). They are usually about 3 months behind releases as they are a smaller store compared to TRU or Wal*Mart but if you're patient about acquisition then it's a good place to check out. And, if you're in the area tomorrow, Airdrie has their Canada Day parade starting about 10AM along Main Street and it usually runs about 1-1/2. Quote

BTW, do you know that the Cross Iron Mills mall will have Alberta's largest TRU in it when it opens? Only moments from you. Quote

Only moments from you. Yeah, which means that Wal*Mart will not carry as much (what else is new) and The Store Upstairs might be compelled to raise their prices. And even having the largest TRU won't do anything for the pricing At least it will give me a place to check the new sets up before I impulsively pick them up. On another note, the AFOL group I am with (SALUG) have a 10'x20' display up in support of the Glenbow Museums' Vistas project...they approached us about making a layout featuring 1900's Railway scenery and life. It's on the main floor adjacent to the mall hallway and the stairs leading to the second floor gallery. If you're ever in that area check it out! Edited July 2, 2009 by winbrant Quote
LittleBuilder Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 Nice idea, am canadian and I agree with this! Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 No. What? I live near cookstown. What Happened? They closed it! Stupid recession. Quote
Emperor Claudius Rome Posted July 3, 2009 Posted July 3, 2009 No, that was the only TLC owned store in my area. It also was the only place to have PAB Quote
prateek Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 No, that was the only TLC owned store in my area. It also was the only place to have PAB At least you had a store in your area Quote
Ricecracker Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 No, that was the only TLC owned store in my area. It also was the only place to have PAB It was actually owned by Toys for Boys, NOT by Lego. I believe the reason they posted for closing was that they couldn't get their stock in on time, Lego would always delay their shipments, and they'd have nothing to sell. It's unfortunate, because I always used to go there on the way up to my cottage. Quote
ZO6 Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 thanks for the info. if you can, can you check if they have 8169 lamborghini I was in the Newmarket TRU again today and can report they did not have the Lamborghini in. They did not have any new/different stuff from last week. It was actually owned by Toys for Boys, NOT by Lego. I believe the reason they posted for closing was that they couldn't get their stock in on time, Lego would always delay their shipments, and they'd have nothing to sell. It's unfortunate, because I always used to go there on the way up to my cottage. Yes, it's too bad they closed down. I used to go there a couple times a year, but then when I went a few months back I was disappointed to find them shut down. Their site seems to be gone now which is both a good and bad thing - the site had given no indication that the stores had shut down and was therefore misleading, however the absence of the site gives little hope that the stores may return (I'm guessing the store in London Ontario suffered the same fate as the one in Cookstown?). Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 At least you had a store in your area It was half an hour north of T.O.! I don't know about the London store, but I assume the same thing happened. Quote
prateek Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 That's still far. And since when did they have a Lego Store in London? Quote
Bartram Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Wish they'd get some official Lego stores in Western Canada (BC)...hint hint. Quote
Ricecracker Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Wish they'd get some official Lego stores in Western Canada (BC)...hint hint. I wish they'd open some official Lego stores in any of Canada, but, unfortunately, when I emailed customer service, they promptly replied by saying that Lego has to plans to open any Lego stores in Canada in the near future.
