Alex the Great Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 So I was going through my old photobucket account and came across this, I think it suites this thread well. Oooo....bingo every thursday! Quote
Ceroknight Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 Wait, did you get the job as retail manager, or are you just excited that theres is going to be a Lego storein Vancouver? Either way, congrats! regarding the superheroes, I'll give em a ring and see what I can find. Wait is that why everyone was congratulating me? No I live in Victoria so I can't really go back and forth everyday.. I'm just happy there will be one that I can go maybe once a month Quote

IAmWillGibson Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 I don't wanna sound like a rube here, but what is the function of a LUG? Sittin' around, bouncing bricks off each other's foreheads? I figure I'm entrenched in this goofy business deep enough, maybe it's time I found out. Quote
prateek Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 A LUG is a real life version of Eurobricks. Hang out with other AFOLs and have contests and activities and stuff. I haven't been to one, so I'm just guessing, although I might not be wrong. Quote
legodac Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 So are there words for LUG, what does the abb stand for? Quote
tedbeard Posted December 15, 2011 Posted December 15, 2011 (edited) I am a member (actually President) of VicLUG which is my local LEGO Users Group, here are a few of the things a LUG can do: Displays: we show off our stuff @ local hobby shows including a train layout for the model railway show here in town and an annual display by a local museum that gives us a section of space for three months between New Years Day and the end of March. Kid Build: we have several bins of mixed LEGO that we provide for use by local events like Beaver Scouts, and Gottacon, a local gaming convention where we also run a "VicWars" table (VicWars is what we call our version of BrickWars). Drafts; We all buy the same set, usually on sale and then combine all the sets together. We then take turns taking one element (ie: all the 1x2 yellow brick, or all the 2x2 dark tan tiles, etc) until the whole bunch has been distributed. Great way to have some fun and get a bunch of pieces. Dirty Brickster: usually at our Xmas party/meeting we do this "dirty" gift exchange with each putting in one LEGO "gift" of app. $20 value. BrickCon: we arrange group travel to our nearest LEGO fan convention which for us is BrickCon every year in Seattle. We share a van and hotel room(s) to make it more reasonable. Summer BBQ: just a social gathering in conjunction with a meeting in the summer. LUGBulk: the super-secret program that allows LUGs to access large amounts of bulk elements for building collaborative displays. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. :) You can see some of what we do in our Flickr Pool which I think you should be able to see. Edited December 15, 2011 by tedbeard Quote
Ogre Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 No Superheroes at Fairview. Heard rumour about Sherway...supposedly they have 'em but, aren't putting them out until Fairview gets theirs. Mastermind Toys is supposed to have them on the shelf/website today though, if you're that eager. LOTR LEGO sets! Totally stoked. Unfortunately, it means the death of Kingdoms. Total bummer. So much more could have been done with that line. Quote

That rumor is delicious, who let the cat out of the bag? Can't wait till Fairview gets em, I'll call tomorrow to see what I can find out. Quote
IAmWillGibson Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 There was one Super Heroes set at the TRY in the Duff on the weekend. The Batwing set. I'm holding out for the Funhouse for the Batman character load-up. Also they had the Spongebob Flying Dutchman which normally I wouldn't give a poo about, but I really like that Dutchman figure and the rest of the set is quirky enough I'm gonna give it a go, I think. Yeah, that Funhouse set is number one on my "must buy" list for the Superheroes line. Not only does it look pretty cool and come with a nice selection of characters, it's the only Batman set that's not a rehash of the older line. REALLY looking forward to picking that up. Quote

Spent $100 on Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape Catwoman Catcycle City Chase Superman vs. Power Armour Lex They looks so cool!! Those are exactly the three I want from this line, although I'm pretty turned off by the price of the Catwoman set, especially considering how reasonable the Funhouse one is. If the Batman were a different print, I'd probably be more forgiving, but as is, I may have to skip Catwoman for the time being. The other two though, are a lock. Christmas money! Quote
pp7 Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 I probably don't need to tell you guys by now, but Superheroes arrived at Fairview yesterday. The place was a madhouse! I felt like I was acting out dynamic duo escape while trying to purchase it!! Long lines (probably just for Christmas) but I noticed a lot of people picking up one, two, or ALL of the sets very cool. Ogre Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 Was at Fairview on Christmas Eve day and there wasn't even a spot on the wall for superheroes. Got thoroughly cleaned out, I guess. LOL Thankfully, I had already picked up my Funhouse, Lex, Catwoman and "Build-A-Bat" sets when they first hit the store. Will probably still pick up the Batmobile and Batwing, too. Don't know about the Joker and Green Lantern constraction sets though. I AM a completist but, I'm just not thrilled with those sets. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Quote
Ricecracker Posted December 25, 2011 Posted December 25, 2011 They seemed to have two Catwoman sets left at the end of the night. Quote
Fives Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Has anyone seen the new Star Wars sets at Fairview yet? I'm probably gonna be therein Wednesday and I'm really hoping that they are here. Quote

Fives Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I doubt it, because in the catalogues, it says they will be available late January Yeah, I was afraid of that. Oh well, at least reviews will be up on here soon and I'll be able to get a really good look at the sets. Quote

Oh well, it happens. Bring on the 2012 sets. *ahem* Score. 5x PQ Battle Pack 4x Halloween Spider set 4x Alien Striker 3x Key Chains 2x AC ADU E.D. legomaniac83 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 (edited) There is a 50% off coupon for Zellers from their Facebook page that can be redeemed on any regular price or sale item. It expires on Dec. 31. I don't see any Lego deals in the flyer, but the coupon is too good to pass up. I might head there tomorrow and see what I can find. Happy hunting.
