Ogre Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Have you seen the Cars sets? Yes...though I try to ignore them. LOL I know, their pricing is even worse ($9.99 for one crappy vehicle) but, since I don't collect THOSE, I'm not quite as offended by the pricing. Quote
legomaniac83 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Was in WalMart yesterday and noticed some of the new 2012 sets. Most notably were the Super Heroes Batman, The Joker and Green Lantern. ($17.99) Also spotted the 4434 Dump Truck as well. This is on my want list, but not for the $24.99 price tag And referring to those CARS sets, I bought the Lightning McQueen and Mater with a BOGO, which is still about $7 each. What can you do...... ZO6 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I'm not generally one to price rant, but with the prices of the first wave of 2012 sets all known, I feel inclined to talk money. In the order that the themes are presented in the most recent S@H catalogue (I skipped some stuff): 1. NinjaGo -Though this wave of sets is not really my cup of tea, the prices are for the most part as expected. Destiny's Bounty is an interesting looking ship and worthy of purchase in my eyes - the $100 price tag is fair. A number of the sets such as the Mech ($30), Jet ($30), Copter ($40), and Cycle ($18) are also pretty good prices. The rest in the line seems pricy-ish. 2. City -Pretty much all the sets are reasonably priced. The Fire ATV is 2x too expensive, and the Recycling Truck is getting up there at $40. I like how a large number of the sets are $25 bucks, and everything will be that much sweeter to pick up during one of TRU's many 20-25% off sales. 3. Dino -Holy expensive, Batman! The Pteranodon Tower at $25 doesn't seem too bad, but the rest seem awfully expensive. I don't remember the dinosaurs in the old Adventurers theme ever driving prices up this much. The helicopter ($90), plane ($45), triceratops trapper ($65), and base ($130) are the worst price offenders. I'm pretty disappointed by the lack of creative play features, so combined with the high prices I don't see myself getting many if any sets from this line. 4. Superheroes -These are all just about the most reasonably prices sets coming from TLG so far for 2012, especially considering that they're licensed sets! I've got all of the sets (save for the maxi-figs) ordered. 5. Kingdoms Joust -Beautiful set, good price 6. Friends -I was expecting these to be pretty pricy, but I'm happy to see that for the most part they are pretty reasonable in terms of cost. 7. Technic -On par with what I expected and the general trend. I wish all technic sets were 10-20% cheaper, but I guess that's where sales come in. 8. Star Wars -These are really hit and miss. The new X-Wing is a better design and has more pieces than the previous one and is 5 bucks cheaper! The New Y-Wing at $65 is reasonable (the similar piece count Sith Infiltrator from this year was $90!) The planet sets at $13 each are actually cheaper than expected ($15), though if they were 10 bucks that'd be golden. The new Tie and especially the Jedi Interceptor (luckily I have no desire for that set) are very overpriced in my opinion. I'm not a huge minifigure collector, so having to pay ridiculous prices for sets because of the little guys really ticks me off. I hope all you minifig collectors out there are happy (for a long time Lego minifigs were all nice generic smiley faces and the sets sold fine...grumble grumble)! I shall not go into a minifig rant though. So, as per usual, there are some good deals to be had, and there are some expensive items too. I guess it was mostly just the Dino sets and a couple of the Star Wars ones seeming particularly expensive that got me fired up. As I said though, one can find examples from pretty much any year where sets seem painfully pricey. Rant over. Quote
Ricecracker Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Also spotted the 4434 Dump Truck as well. This is on my want list, but not for the $24.99 price tag 4434 is well worth the $24.99 they're asking for it, in my opinion. Quote
Legobrandon Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) I agree, the new city sets are priced fairly, the Dino sets are just way overpriced and last but not least, the Kingdoms Joust, wonderful looking set with a beautiful price-point, especially in the US. legomaniac83 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) 4434 is well worth the $24.99 they're asking for it, in my opinion. Oh don't get me wrong, I think it is a fair price considering that previous sets in this size range had less pieces, hence their $19.99 price. I am just a sucker for not paying full price for any of the Lego I buy. I will wait for it to go on sale, then jump at the chance to get it. TRU usually has 25% off City and such. Unless of course I am near a Lego Store - then the VIP points are a good added bonus. For example yesterday I picked up 5776 Log Cabin for $22 thanks to that Zellers 50% off coupon Edited December 30, 2011 by legomaniac83 Quote
ProducePrincess Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 I'm not sure if some of you know this already but there is a manager position for a lego store in vancouver. Could be a new store for Metrotown? LINK Quote
prateek Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Yeah this was mentioned a few pages back, but it is very exciting indeed! Quote
ProducePrincess Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Anyone we know going to apply for the job? Quote
Legobrandon Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Yes, very, very excited when I first saw the news. I've been wanting one here for quite some time now. Now I don't have to drive all the way to Bellevue, Seattle. I cannot wait until they announce the location of the store. Will definitely go early in the morning and get the free minifigure set. Quote

ZO6 Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Has anyone seen the Batcave in the Lego Store yet? Unfortunately, I haven't been out to a Lego Store in a couple weeks so I'm afraid I'm no help. With it being past January 1st though, the Batcave in theory should be in stores. On a side note, I ordered the Batcave from S@H and it arrived last week. I was extremely pleased to find that the instructions and sticker sheet were both in the protective cardboard packaging. This marks the first time that I've gotten a sub-1000 piece set with the protective cardboard. Hopefully this trend continues, particularly with sets with sticker sheets. Quote

There hasnt been an official announcement yet, but there is evidence of the store being located in Oakridge mall. There is advertisement on Craigslist for the manager position mentioning Oakridge. This topic is very active on our vlc.ca forum. "Allow myself to introduce......myself" I just found this Canadian Eh forum. I usually stick to the Town Forum. My real name is Shane. I live near Vancouver. I am currently Vice President of the Vancouver Lego Club. I have met Ted and a few other from Viclug. I am a proud Canadian (except for our Lego MSRP). My most Canadian moc to date would be a 10 foot model of the HMCS Winnipeg. Quote

Toadtorrent Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Just got my series 6 CMF's in Toronto at the Mt. Pleasant Mastermind Toys. They were $3.49 each...and I was able to feel my way to a complete series and then some. Quote
