Okay, on the last episode of the British drama Doctor Who, season 4, the evil Daleks have created an enormous space station called the Crucible.

It looks a LOT like the Death Star, but it has some things coming out the side and stuff, but basically it's the same.

I got really peeved when the Daleks wiped out a planet, using a humongous laser mounted on the side. COINCIDENCE?! I think not!

I'm a massive fan of both, but I kinda wet myself when I started piecing bits together between the two.

Major rant is over, KimT, feel free to close topic, I just had to tell everybody :)

And now I'll leave you with my favorite Dalek clip of the episode:

Extermineren!

Wow, someone else has used the planet destroying superlaser in a sci-fi setting. When will the madness top?

Please KimT, please close this topic.

Okay, sorry. However, I was mearly stating that if you felt it was not a important topic, then you can do with it what you wish :)

The statement where you said 'Unless you want me to ban you.' was what I'd consider a little harsh, taking into account I was mearly being polite.

Thanks for moving.

PS: Have a very Lego Christmas!

Oh noes. An SF which had a planet destroying lazer!

Good grief, my personal TK (carded member of the 501st) didn't make any fuss (in fact i think the quote was "Squeee!") when we saw it in the summer. Hmm, it was big and round, but with extras on the outside... In fact the Doctor Who wiki sayeth "the Crucible resembles the Death Star from Star Wars in size and shape." Yes, it probably was inspired by the Death Star, one has to remember that SF is forever borrowing from each other.

Whats wrong with Daleks efficiently using the design? (after all, it took three Time Lords to beat it, not one rookie in a space ship and a lucky shot)

Ho hum, around about now people should note that of all the SF out there Star Wars is an also-ran in my list.

How long before you start telling us that the Daleks are an R2-D2 ripoff, exactly?

Also may I remind you that the process of creating aliens by putting actors in prosthetic heads was started long before Greedo - ever seen The Sensorites?

Technicaly Star Wars is ripping off Doctor Who, after all it started at decades before Star Wars was in the cinema, nay, even before Star Wars started filming...

Tee hee. I wonder how hard it'd be to modify the giant Death Star into the Crucible?

Well, if you're really looking for a SW rip off, there's also Stargate SG1, with anubis (small guy in a long black robe with hood covering his face...) building a giant planet killing superweapon that gets destroyed by oooh surprise, a small ace fighterpilot flying over its surface...

Man, what a incredible imagination they had for that one...
