Darth Legolas Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 People always show the extended third R2 leg like this: But whenever I do that, it comes out longer than it should? Do they break the pieces? Please help! BTW: If this belongs in minifig customization, please move! Quote
Prof. ClockWork Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 The Old R2's had nothing in the hole so you could fit that piece in there. Quote
Darth Legolas Posted December 29, 2008 Author Posted December 29, 2008 The Old R2's had nothing in the hole so you could fit that piece in there. Aaaah.. wish I'd known that. Oh well... Please close? Quote
General Magma Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Or you just cut those things out of the hole, but I recommend using the old R2's for it. Quote
KimT Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 How about a helpful member took a comparison picture of the old R2D2 and the new R2D2 in this 3rd leg modification. And I think I'll add this to the index on homemade instructions, models and such. A good question... [rushes off to mod the zillion R2's in the next room] Quote
Matn Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 I have both, so I'll make a comparison of the two. But I don't have a camera for the moment, I'll buy one this weekend or next week. So, if you are willing to wait a little bit I'll do it. Unless somebody else is faster. Quote
Omega 8 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 The Old R2's had nothing in the hole so you could fit that piece in there. I wasn't aware there was a difference in the mold When was the switch made? Quote
LEGOscum Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 When was the switch made? Good question. I'd like to know was well. Quote
natelite Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 I wasn't aware there was a difference in the mold When was the switch made? there is no difference. just check bricklink for all R2D2 minifigs. they are the same parts except for the new head printing. legolas just used a full technic pin instead of a half technic pin. this is a full technic pin. this is a half technic pin. natelite Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 ah crap. you're right. boy am i embarrassed. BL failed to update the parts again. if you look for the non-printed round bricks on BL you will find that there are actually 3 versions. empty hole version 1. and then 2 axle (X) versions. so i guess the only version that works will be the empty hole version. natelite Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 sigh.... look what i found from the same BS folder.... http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Evilnurn...dontusethis.jpg http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Evilnurn...chs/usethis.jpg i think the pics were quite aptly named, don't you? i guess that answers the earlier questions. there are more than 1 type of astromech body and the difference between the two (or 3). brickzone Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Is the new part too short to use a short axle with stud on one end, instead of the half technic pin? Quote
Omega 8 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Is the new part too short to use a short axle with stud on one end, instead of the half technic pin? Great question! Still wondering if we can pin down when the change was made? Quote
natelite Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Is the new part too short to use a short axle with stud on one end, instead of the half technic pin? didn't know this part exist. a half axle/half pin technic piece doesn't quite work. can you post a pic of how this piece looks like? edit: do you mean this? only axle i can find with a stud. but that's too long. Skafte Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Just cut two grooves in the technic half pin and it will work brilliantly! You get extra half pins in just about every set... Quote
odinson1313 Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 Hi everyone, this is my first post but I thought I could help for those wondering when this switch was made. It's nothing official, but I checked all of my figures and I have six R2s without the nubs inside, which would put the change at the end of 2001 - beginning of 2002. (To explain - I have one of each SW set and keep a spreadsheet of when the sets were released and what figures were included, so it was easy to figure - I'm OCD like that ) Quote

I checked my R2 from the Droid Escape set (#7106), and sure enough no nubs inside. Since it was released in 2001, it confirms your spreadsheet theory. Quote
metalgeekzy Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Instead of making a new topic im gonna bump this one. I got a new r2 and i would like to add the 3rd leg to him. Hes got the technic axle X in his bottom hole. I have some of the Technic axles with the button oins, but they are all to long. I an actually really tempted to cut down one of those axles to make it fit. Unless someones knows of a better way of doing this? Quote
Lfm55 Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 There a way with the lipstick minifig accessory part and a 1x1 round plate with hole if i remember well.. Quote

This piece also works well with the 1x1 round plate with a hole and the cheese slope. I got a second/spare in the 75296: Darth Vader Meditation Chamber set. Quote
metalgeekzy Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 I dont think i have ever said this before. But. I think i need to buy some lipstick. Quote
