Posted December 31, 200816 yr hello everyone i am an avid star wars collector and love lego to bits (get it!) i buy lego with most of my money i make at my 2 jobs. i am worried about people thinking i am imature and uncool because i collect and build lego has anyone got any help for me... thank you Edited December 31, 200816 yr by gravysam
December 31, 200816 yr Well in my opinion it is best to just not care what other people think. When I was that age I thought if I liked it, I would do it (besides drugs ). So do you really care what others think? Also, if someone can clarify, is Eurobricks allowing people under 18 if they are mature because I thought this site was 18 and up?
December 31, 200816 yr Hey, it's just a hobby as any other hobby!! Never forget that! There are people who are thrilled to buy the newest miniscaled train, and there are people who would fight to get the latest Legoset! When there's someone talking bad about Lego, just let him say what he has to say, and don't listen to it.. I'm 19 years old (almost 20) and all of my friends know that Lego is one of my (many) hobbies. Most of them even react: "I'd play with it too, if I had the money to buy it" It's them who laugh that are imature, not you Just enjoy Lego! Kind Regards Kenny.

Yeah, there are pretty many TFOLs here *cough*me*cough*. *snip*i am --*snip* If I were you I should erase that. The MODs and ADMINs aren´t pleased to see people freely declare their age if they´re under 18, as this site originally is for ages 18 and up. Edited December 31, 200816 yr by Dennimator

If they don't understand LEGO, they will never understand, no matter what age you are. I've been playing with LEGO for over 25 years. Although I never really had a problem with what people thought of me, like most of my generation of builders we didn't have the internet to realize that there were thousands of us LEGO fans out there. You are not imature and uncool because you build with LEGO. It is a hobby, and an art form. I should know, I was a Master Model Builder at LEGOLAND California. I had it for my career for 4 years. Now I am a Freelance LEGO Artist. When anyone asks me what I do for a living, even those who don't care about LEGO, they almost always think its cool. So don't worry so much, the point of LEGO is to be happy, creative, and enjoy life. Artists are never fully appreciated for their art. Fellow LEGO fan, Mariann
December 31, 200816 yr Why care what others think? I'm 20 and work in a job many would call professional (I'm training to be a Civil Engineer, at the moment my official title is Technical Assistant..) yet no one bats an eyelash when I point out my hobby, or they see me surfing Lego S@H during lunch. Even in my last years at school everyone agreed that Lego is awesome, yes, I suppose most twenty year old girls do not plan to spend their weekends planning and building a space craft from Lego, and they certainly don't spend their money on the latest sets. But if it is what you enjoy there's no problem. Do what you are happy doing and don't worry about what others think.

As long as you are saving enough cash for everything else, go right ahead. Also, try to use better, more mature typing.
December 31, 200816 yr fascinating topic... i'm in my mid 30s and have been a huge fan of lego for over 30 years. in that time i don't recall anyone i've ever met saying they didn't like lego. interestingly the most recent example of this is a guy in his mid 20s at work has suddenly found lego batman on ps3 and is utterly hooked! when i mentioned about starwars and indiana jones too in lego he nearly burst and trust me i thought previous to this he'd be the last person i thought would be into lego. merely mentioning it seems to spark people's imaginations and ultimately what i say is just go for it, we all know it's terrific and that if you are unlucky enough to find someone who doesnt well we also know for sure that it's their loss!!!

As long as you are saving enough cash for everything else, go right ahead. Also, try to use better, more mature typing. Remember SWMAN, english is not everyones first language. Give him a break. I do agree with everything else you said. Some of my old coworkers used to give me crap, as did some memebers of my Car club. But like SWMAN said, as long as your taking care of all your bills, then do what you want. In the long run, Lego really isn't that expensive of a hobby. Espeacailly when you concider if you get bored with a set, you can take it apart and build somthing else. You can't do that with hockey gear, car parts (well generally) or baseball cards.
December 31, 200816 yr Sure my roommate might playfully make jabs at me for still being into LEGO, but I know deep down inside he likes them too. Not sure why you should care what other people think of you; as long as you aren't harming anyone else or yourself, you should be able to choose any hobby you want. As other people have mentioned, however, it's never good to over-spend on LEGO and always plan ahead.

January 1, 200916 yr Not to get off topic here but he clearly knows English. His first post used the poison that is called 1337 speak. I figured that as well. If English is clearly not someone's first language, I understand. But, his typing is merely poor grammar.
January 4, 200916 yr Worrying what people think resulted in my dark ages. I sold my collection of 15 years because I thought it was the proper thing to do at that age. Now as an adult, I've amassed a huge collection in the six months since I returned to the fold. That being said, I take huge pride in it. In fact, when we have company, people always ask to see it. Grown men will walk into the room and gasp or get really excited. I've never heard anyone say anything bad about it, and most people are really impressed with the models on display. I don't know any AFOLs like myself outside of the internet, but I can safely say that even people who don't collect are extremely impressed and awed by the collection. It's one of those things that I think most people would be silly to scoff at, as a hobby is something that can really enrich your life and I think most people can appreciate and understand that.
January 5, 200916 yr Hello Haha this is the same about me really. I enjoy it too and it's a great way of spending time. Recently I picked up lego again and Im starting collecting it. Don't care about what other people say as long as you have fun. There are so many lego collectors, and most of them are really normal nice people so just keep collecting! I think the only one who cares about that I buy lego are my parents haha, they are scared I buy it and stop collecting it within a year. Edited January 5, 200916 yr by Ptrickvdmeer
January 5, 200916 yr Well everybody here is denying it. I can admit i am imature and uncool. So pretty much everybody on eurobricks is imature and uncool. We just have to live with the fact we never grew up.
January 5, 200916 yr Well everybody here is denying it. I can admit i am imature and uncool. So pretty much everybody on eurobricks is imature and uncool. We just have to live with the fact we never grew up. You just massively stereotyped a forum with over 4,000 members all around the world and insulted all of them. It's fine if you feel that way about yourself and even feel that way about some people here, but please keep it to yourself! I'm new here, but I definantly see some interesting and mature people here. I think that the entire fact that so many people normally considered "too old" for LEGO shows that there shouldn't be an age limit and that it can be more than a child's toy! @ Gravysam: Just proove how you aren't "uncool and immature"! If you're worried about people thinking that you're uncool or something, then that's their problem! If you really like LEGO, then so be it, I don't see why people should have a problem with that. Willing to stick up for a passion even if everyone you know beats you down should just proove that you really are mature and can handle pointless criticism!

I think that the entire fact that so many people normally considered "too old" for LEGO shows that there shouldn't be an age limit and that it can be more than a child's toy! I agree. Here is an intelligent webcomics view of things: I am a grownup now, I have decided LEGO is fine for "grownups" thus LEGO is a grownup thing I don't think I am immature and I know I am "uncool" I certainly do not want to be "cool" by the rest of the worlds standards, thank you very much
January 6, 200916 yr Well everybody here is denying it. I can admit i am imature and uncool. So pretty much everybody on eurobricks is imature and uncool. We just have to live with the fact we never grew up. Well that is a dumb thing to say. Whether you belong hear or not is not up to me, but this is not the kind of babyland place that you can do that in. Legos (to me) have nothing to do with age. If you enjoy playing/buying etc, with legos it is up to you to decide what you think is right.
January 6, 200916 yr There's absolutely no problem with Lego, just don't discuss it all the time with people who don't share that particular interest. There are worse hobbies out there, anyway
January 6, 200916 yr There's absolutely no problem with Lego, just don't discuss it all the time with people who don't share that particular interest. There are worse hobbies out there, anyway Yes, compared to a lot of other hobbies, LEGO collecting and use makes a lot more sense. LEGO allows you to be creative, express your opinion, appreciate other things and have fun while doing it, so how can that be an immature thing?
January 7, 200916 yr they should remove the upper age limit from the boxes for a start. anyway, as an adult i can now afford more than i got as gifts or with pocket money all those years back, so thats a positive, right. but as im cool im not going to and instead im going to spend it on crack. January 7, 200916 yr When you can see the age advice 16 +, you can be sure that LEGO is not only for kids. Since the past few years, LEGO has developped awesome sets that are directly addressed to adults. Don't worry, very serious people use LEGO bricks in their work because of what you can do with. Moreover, collecting LEGO is like many other collection. As long as you enjoy LEGO building, keep collecting them !
January 7, 200916 yr they should remove the upper age limit from the boxes for a start. There was a brief period around 2002 or 2003 when the upper age limit was 99. The box for my 8455 Backhoe says ages 11-99 on it.
