Dadster Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 I really am puzzled as to why Lego won't release the Good Wizard set in the US, if it sells so well in the rest of the world. Some of these descions of theirs just baffle me, like with the Castle Advent Calendar. Well, unfortunately, there are still folks in this wonderful country of mine backwards enough to equate anything "magic" with devil worship. 'Course, I think the real reason is that as far as impulses go, folks love them so they can create "armies" (Crown Knights, Trolls) or "squads" (Police, Firemen) and the retailers realize this and want to sell them. An army of Crown Knights = awesome. An army of wizards = less interesting to most, I'd bet. Quote

In the shops near here, there's still plenty of Crown Knight impulses left, but I haven't seen the Wizard in ages anymore. Most people buy impulses because they're cheap, not because they want an army of the same figure. And of course the Wizard is more attractive than the knight, because it's the only set (besides the chess) that features it. Quote

I wish Lego would test the theory and bring over the Wizards... 'Course, I have a few, but I'm sure others would like it. Quote
Pencoin Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 There is two space police impulses coming out this year. K-9 Bot (goodies!) Space Speeder (baddies!) Quote
Mr Spielbrick Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 "K-9 Bot"? Sounds a bit Doctor Who... Grand idea to release impulse sets of this new theme. Makes it available in all price categories, which is a smart move with something new. Yay! Quote
Mr Spielbrick Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Haha, I didn't say that. I've no idea what the impulse thingy even looks like. Would be fun if it looks like the Doctor Who K9, but I'm not expecting anything. Let the set itself do the talking when we get pics. Quote
hollisbrick Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 I think TLG realised they overpriced them in some regions, like Australia, and have changed strategy for 09.The 2008 ones were priced at $AUD5.99 but the 2009 new ones are listed at $AUD4.99. One dollar doesn't seem like much but the psychological difference between the two price points was probably enough to discourage buyers. I know I didn't pick up many as they seemed too close in price to the smaller sets of 'proper' lines but without value. Have any other regions had a price drop? I agree though that a couple of Pirates and one City one seems like an odd combination. I agree, and not just because i'm Aussie I am glad they've gone down in price and as you saud, $1 doesn't seem like much but really, it is! Also the 08 ones have also gone to $5 which I shal hopefully get some today! But really, there used to be sets back when I was 6 the same size and they were only $2 What ever happened? Quote

I remember a Shell station promotion that gave sets larger than the impulse sets for free when you got petrol! That was great, but it happens no more. I really hope that later this year or some time next year we get a Milkman impulse. For perfectly honest reasons ( ), every LEGO town needs a milk delivery service! Quote
The Cobra Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I bought all the three 2009 Impulse sets available so far, and I have a question: do they come with the same set listing (on the back of the instructions sheet, see here) regardless of the country they're sold in? Quote
Norro Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 I think the impulse sets still need to live up to their name. You can't buy them on 'impulse' if you have to go looking for them. So far the only non-lego owned stores I've seen them in were pricing them ridiculously high (5.99 Aus, 7.50 US)... Why? Even at 3.50 they aren't the steal of the century. However the new wave at 1.95UKL is looking better ; ) God Bless, Nathan Quote

To awnser your question, yes. I think it was one of the first 2008 impulses that I bought (in NA) and it had a picture of the Good Wizard set on the back of the instructions. Talk about opening fresh wounds.... Quote

I'm not even considering getting the Pirate impulses at TRU (which is the only place I can currently find them in my area), since I can get a Cannon Battle set for LESS at Walmart and Target. Quote
