CopMike Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Voilá ! LAML Interviews Steve Witt CopMike Quote
dhaas06 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 That was excellent! It's always good to hear from Lego representatives in laid-back personal interviews. It's a shame about Harry Potter, though. I understand the reasoning behind it, and at least we definitely saw it coming. I do appreciate TLG's growing efforts to reach the adult fan-base, and we've already seen great results (Medieval Market Village, Green Grocer, etc.) . Thanks for posting this! Quote
alexrider7 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 really is a shame about poor harry. I have the whole collection from 1, 2 and 4, the Sirius Black escape from 3 and none from 5. Quote
Admiral Blockbeard Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Perhaps we could take the things he said and make some small changes to help him out. He said the Lego Users Groups had names and information maybe we could have a section on this sight where we provide this information for Lego? A LUGEurobricks? Regards, Cpt. PB Quote
Ras_Al_Ghul Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 He said the Lego Users Groups had names and information maybe we could have a section on this sight where we provide this information for Lego? A LUGEurobricks? You'd have my support! I don't live close enough to a LUG to join, so I've been looking for an online LUG I could join. Sounds like a good idea. Quote

KDog Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Can someone summarize what he said about LEGO Universe and how many Castle Advent calendars sold? Quote
CP5670 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Very interesting interview. I just wish they had a text transcript of it, as it's fairly long to listen to. Steve was actually the one who gave me this at Brickfair last year. He said that ship instantly reminded him of the old Galactic Mediator, which was his favorite set as a kid. I noticed the same thing about Moonbase not being so big at that event, in contrast to the huge layout in 2006. It sounds like that was the case with other events as well. Quote
SuvieD Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 He is a space man. That gives me even more hope that the new Space Police theme will be great. Quote
CP5670 Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 He is a space man. That gives me even more hope that the new Space Police theme will be great. Well, I don't think he is directly involved in the set design process. He probably does give the designers suggestions though. Quote

KimT Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 Great interview. Glad to hear that the end of HP is now Sounds like a really cool guy that could be fun to meet. Perhaps he'll be at LEGOworld2009...highly doubtful though. Quote
The Brick Rat Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Can someone summarize what he said about LEGO Universe and how many Castle Advent calendars sold? Steve didn't say too much about LEGO Universe because he hasn't had a chance to play it yet. He did note that LEGO initially involved about 40 AFoLs in the making of the game and that that number is up to 60. The Castle Advent calendar sale in North America was interesting to hear about. It came about because LEGO shipped 1700 units here by mistake. They weren't in the S@H system so they couldn't put them on the website. Normally what they do in that situation is send the sets back or destroy them. However, they had gotten enough feedback about the set from the AFoL community that they came up with a way to sell them. Quote
Whittleberry Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Sad about poor HP, but the reasoning for it completely makes sense. About the Castle Advent Calendar, I can't believe it was actually because of a mistake that they sold it through the US S@H! I thought the LEGO was just trying to suck up to the Americans . And what's all this about destroying LEGO sets? Is this some kind of thing they do regularly? Sounds dreadful, when anyone would pay good money for it. Quote
simonjedi Posted January 9, 2009 Posted January 9, 2009 Can someone tell me what happened to HP, or is it the "target audience is too old now" that was mentioned a while ago? Quote
